[AI] Jaws 10

2010-03-02 Thread Swati Sinha
Hello Sir,

When your JAWS does not prompts well then quit JAWS and restart it.

If not restart the system and check whether it works properly or not.

when things don't seem to be going your way, always know that God has a plan
for you. If you place your trust in Him, He will give you great gifts. We
don't always know what God's plans are for us. We just know that His ways
are not our ways, but His ways are always best.

Dear Saurabh, Amar and others,
My basic question still remains unanswered. Does Lekha read hindi in
word and other files? I am waiting eagerly for any clues.
Thanks and regards,

Re: [AI] JAWS 10 and hindi

2010-01-30 Thread Sandeep Singh

Dear Saurabh, Amar and others,
My basic question still remains unanswered. Does Lekha read hindi in
word and other files? I am waiting eagerly for any clues.

Thanks and regards,
Sandeep

Hi All,

Lekha TTS is a paid software and developed by Nuance. As per my knowledge
Freedom Scientific has only bought its right to distribute it with JAWS
screen reader. Though it can be used with any screen reader. If any person
wants to use this TTS then he should purchase it from Nuance. Any
distribution without purchasing its license comes under piracy.

Thanks,
Saurabh

Hello amiyo sir and all the laikha users,
Not sure from where you've got the laikha synthesizer, but it isn't
free as per my knowledge goes.
Freedomscientific, has in fact not made it public, since it's a part
of jaws 9 bundle that they sell to hindi bilingual users.
It might not ask you for the license, registration key or anything
else, but I don't think it's a publically available real speak
synthesizer. Keeping this in view, I won't advice anyone to upload the
same on this list even if someone having it, it may be illegitimate.
One can contact freedom scientific for more details.

Hi Suman kumar
It does work and I have done it.
However, I like Lekha much beeter than this espeak voice, for the fact that
pronunciations of lekha are slightly better and also not less for the fact that
it is a female voice.
Thanks anyway

[AI] JAWS 10 Update - 5/18/09

2009-06-03 Thread ruchir falodiya
please ignore and excuse if this has already been posted here.

Enhancements in JAWS 10.0.1151 (May 2009)

The following is a list of items addressed between the final JAWS
10.0.1142 release and the JAWS 10.0.1151 posting. All enhancements
since the initial public
beta release are included in this release.

• Resolved an issue in Internet Explorer 8 where the JAWS Scripts that
control reading and navigating the address bar with INSERT+A and
INSERT+A twice quickly
had stopped working. These commands are very useful when you want URL
information without moving your Virtual Cursor from your reading
position on the
Web page. These scripts continue to work correctly in Internet
Explorer 7 and Internet Explorer 6.
• JAWS correctly reads and speaks the column and field titles in
Access 2007 database tables. For example, when you press INSERT+TAB
while focus is in an
Access table cell (field), JAWS will now announce all field
information such as the column name, the field contents, and any other
associated tutor message.
Previously, the column name information was not mentioned, or it was
necessary to press ALT+TAB to leave and then return to the application
in order to
hear the complete field information.
• When you use the UP ARROW or DOWN ARROW to navigate by line in the
Virtual Viewer while in Access 2007, JAWS now speaks each line.
Previously, JAWS would
only speak the line of text when you pressed INSERT+UP ARROW to read
the current line.
• The 64-bit version of JAWS 10 now correctly tracks focus when
running Microsoft Windows 7.
• When you select text using SHIFT+LEFT ARROW or SHIFT+RIGHT ARROW,
such as in the File name edit field of the Open dialog box, JAWS now
announces each
character as it is selected. Previously, JAWS would just say the word
“Selected” without announcing the character.
• When composing a new e-mail message using Outlook Express 6, JAWS
will now announce the words “Edit, type in text” when you move into
the message body
using TAB or ALT+` or CTRL+`. Previously, JAWS would say “Edit, read only.”
• When talking in a Freedom Scientific Webinar training session, you
can use the ALT+L command to lock and unlock the Talk key. This
command now functions
correctly with the Webinar conference software plug-in that you must
install the first time you attend a training session.
• Resolved several HTML issues when using JAWS with Libera System 7
Framework™ solutions software.

regards,

ruchir.

[AI] jaws 10, window-eyes 7, and NVDA gets updates!

2009-03-31 Thread ruchir falodiya
hello and a very good afternoon to the world of accessindia!

lately, there have been much of activity in lastfew days in the area
of screen readers.

however, there's nothing big, yet its worth mentioning here.

first, a new update of jaws for windows version 10, JAWS 10.0.1142
has just been released.

this version is a minor bug fix for last version, and also some new
enhancements are made.

Enhancements in JAWS 10.0.1142 (March 2009)

The following is a list of items addressed between the final JAWS
10.0.1139 release and the JAWS 10.0.1142 posting.

• The Yahoo Instant Messenger.jss script file has been updated and
included in JAWS 10 to provide support for the latest version of
Yahoo! Messenger 9.
Make sure to download the latest Yahoo! Messenger for full
compatibility with JAWS 10.
• The message history in AOL Instant Messenger and the e-mail messages
in the Gmail Inbox are now visible to JAWS. Previously, the virtual
buffer would
appear to be blank if you tried to read message history or Inbox messages.
• When navigating through the Gmail Inbox, you can once again select
and open an e-mail message by pressing ENTER when focus is on the text
in the Subject
column. In a previous release, it was necessary to turn off the
Virtual Cursor or use the JAWS cursor to open the e-mail message.
• Resolved an issue related to certain Web pages with frames, which,
when updated, created a situation where JAWS would not read the text
present in the
updated frame. This problem was reported for both Gmail and the
Webinar software used by the Freedom Scientific Training department
for the new
Webinars
, both free and paid, now being offered.
• The default JAWS dictionary file (default.jdf) has been updated to
include the correct pronunciation of two Russian symbols.
• In the JAWS help file, the Using the JAWS Cursor topic now describes
the Real Window and the Focus Window restriction options that are
available for the
JAWS Cursor. Previously, this topic only mentioned the Application
Window, Current Window, Unrestricted, and Frame restrictions.

please visit

http://www.freedomscientific.com/downloads/jaws/JAWS-whats-new.asp#Enhancements

for more information and grabbing the copy of latest update.

secondly, windows-eyes 7 scripts for winamp are updated.

there is lots of updates and a lot of new features who's list is
pretty long and hence, i'm not posting it entirely here.

Note: These scripts have only been tested using Winamp 5.551. Earlier
versions may or may not function.

so, if you are a window-eyes7.0 and above user, and uses winamp 5.551,
this could be worth updating for you.

please visit.

https://www.gwmicro.com/Script_Central/Scripts/Script_Details/?scriptid=1016

last but not the least,

the NVDA developers are now trying to work with UI automation which
will be used in windows7, and presently, the task is going on to make
internet explorer more user friendly with NVDA.

if you are a very adventurous user, you can download the latest
snatshot (unstable release ) and play with it,

however the final stable release will still take some time.

here is the information taken from

www.nvda-project.org

Last September, Mick
started completely refactoring our virtual buffer library
, a task which ended up becoming almost a complete redesign. This new
library is called nvVBufLib. Over the last few months, he has been
working on porting
the Mozilla Gecko back-end to the new library. We encountered a few
major hiccups along the way, which have now thankfully been solved.

Meanwhile, a few weeks ago, I decided to try my hand at implementing a
new Adobe Acrobat/Reader back-end for this new library. In addition,
Mick recently
started implementing a back-end for Microsoft Internet Explorer. This
means that support for Adobe Reader and Internet Explorer is now
unified with the
same core code used for Mozilla Gecko, which means that features such
as fast page rendering, extensive quick navigation, links list, text
selection, auto
focus mode and braille support are now available with these documents.

I'm happy to announce that I've just
merged all of this code into the main code base
, which means it will also be available in binary snapshots. This is
obviously very exciting! However, while the new code appears to be
relatively stable,
there may still be serious bugs which need to be resolved. Also note
that the Internet Explorer support is still not yet complete; form
fields may not
appear, some controls may not be rendered, there may be problems with
frames and the buffer is not updated dynamically, just to list a few
of the big issues.
Having said this, if you're willing to live on the bleeding edge,
please do test and shoot us your feedback! Those of you who aren't
willing to deal with
problems should probably avoid snapshots for a while until things settle down.

Enjoy!

Subject: [AI] jaws 10 reads tamil and hindi with ESpeak

Dear friends,

Jaws 10 reads tamil and hindi well with ESpeak synthesizer. It reads the
internet contents as well as the contents stored in the computers. The
pronunciation is not so good. But we are able to understand the reading,
and enjoy tamil and hindi reading.

In order for JAWS to work with the tamil and Hindi languages, it is
important to first make the following changes in the Control Panel:

For Windows XP:

1. Navigate to: Start Control Panel Regional and Language Options
Select the Languages tab
2. Check the checkbox option Install files for complex script and
right-to-left languages (including Thai) and tab down to Ok and press
Enter.
3. Windows may require you to insert the original XP Program installation
CD to complete the installation.

4. Reboot the computer.

Activating the tamil and Hindi keyboard

Now in order to use the tamil and Hindi keyboard you need to do the
following steps:

For Windows XP:

1. Complete Enabling tamil and Hindi Language Support as above.
2. Navigate to: Start Control Panel Language and Regional Options
3. In the dialog window, select the Languages tab.
4. Select Details under the Text Services and Input Languages header.
5. Under the Installed Services menu, select Add. This will take you
to a dialog window which will allow you to add language, tamil and hindi,
input services, including assorted keyboard layouts for South Asian
languages. Select tamil and the Traditional Hindi language, under Input
language. Press OK.

To use the tamil and Hindi keyboard you need to bring the same in focus so
that you can type in tamil and Hindi and the text is displayed in tamil
and in Hindi on the screen. To do this press Alt-Left Shift keys to
alternate between English, tamil and Hindi language input on your
keyboard.

after that, install the ESpeak latest version from the ESpeak website,
http://espeak.sourceforge.net/
in the ESpeak instalation screen, type (ta) for tamil and (hi) for hindi.
go to jaws menu/languages/voice profiles/create new profile. select SAPI 5
as synthesizer, and tamil or hindi as language and select person as ESpeak
tamil or ESpeak hindi. create separate voice profiles for tamil and hindi.
Now you can change jaws language under the language menu/voice profiles
and work in tamil or in hindi.

Note please :
enjoy the regional language reading. do not forget to change to eloquence
synthesizer before shutting down your computer, otherwise jaws may be stop
speaking after rebooting. If it happens, you can change the jaws
synthesizer with the help of narrator or NVDA.

Thanks and regards.

[AI] jaws 10 reads tamil and hindi with ESpeak

2009-01-19 Thread B. Kannan
Dear friends,

Jaws 10 reads tamil and hindi well with ESpeak synthesizer. It reads the
internet contents as well as the contents stored in the computers. The
pronunciation is not so good. But we are able to understand the reading, and
enjoy tamil and hindi reading.

In order for JAWS to work with the tamil and Hindi languages, it is important
to first make the following changes in the Control Panel:

For Windows XP:

1. Navigate to: Start Control Panel Regional and Language Options
Select the Languages tab
2. Check the checkbox option Install files for complex script and
right-to-left languages (including Thai) and tab down to Ok and press Enter.
3. Windows may require you to insert the original XP Program installation CD to
complete the installation.
4. Reboot the computer.

Activating the tamil and Hindi keyboard

Now in order to use the tamil and Hindi keyboard you need to do the following
steps:

For Windows XP:

1. Complete Enabling tamil and Hindi Language Support as above.
2. Navigate to: Start Control Panel Language and Regional Options
3. In the dialog window, select the Languages tab.
4. Select Details under the Text Services and Input Languages header.
5. Under the Installed Services menu, select Add. This will take you to a
dialog window which will allow you to add language, tamil and hindi, input
services, including assorted keyboard layouts for South Asian languages. Select
tamil and the Traditional Hindi language, under Input language. Press OK.

To use the tamil and Hindi keyboard you need to bring the same in focus so that
you can type in tamil and Hindi and the text is displayed in tamil and in Hindi
on the screen. To do this press Alt-Left Shift keys to alternate between
English, tamil and Hindi language input on your keyboard.

after that, install the ESpeak latest version from the ESpeak website,
http://espeak.sourceforge.net/
in the ESpeak instalation screen, type (ta) for tamil and (hi) for hindi.

What's New in JAWS 10 Public Beta with JAWS Tandem!
Thank you for participating in the JAWS 10 English public beta test.
This page provides all the necessary details that you need to know.
Please take a
few moments to review this information and take advantage of the beta
report link to provide Freedom Scientific your feedback during the
public beta. Choose
Download JAWS 10 to go directly to the public beta download links.

Please note that while the final release of JAWS 10 will be a Software
Maintenance Agreement (SMA) upgrade, this public beta version will run
for anyone
with a JAWS license that provides access to JAWS 9. You can verify
your ILM authorization by going to
www.fsactivate.com
, choosing the Continue Product Activation button, and then choosing
the link labeled Verify the number of activation keys available for
your Freedom Scientific
product. On this page, enter your serial number to find out if your
license is current and what release version is allowed.

For those who do not have a JAWS 9 or later license, you can still
install the public beta version and run it using 40-Minute Demo mode.

This public beta version will expire later this year. To use JAWS
without interruption, you must continue to update to later versions of
the public beta
and then to the final release. Please use the Check for Updates
feature in the Help menu each week to be sure that you have the most
current software.

Note: You do not have to remove earlier versions of JAWS to install
JAWS 10. Your previous versions will continue to function when you
have JAWS 10 installed,
just as each new major version release of JAWS has in the past. Also,
you do not have to have any earlier beta version installed before
installing the
current beta version. You can have any of the following combinations:

a.. Public beta 1 installed and then you use Check for Updates to
install public beta 2

b.. Public beta 1 installed and then you download and install public
beta 2 on top of public beta 1

c.. Only public beta 2 installed

Technical Support During the Public Beta
While in public beta, general technical support of JAWS 10 is not
available using our direct support phone lines or e-mail. We request
that you send feedback
directly to Freedom Scientific using the Beta Report Form Web page.
Please bookmark the report page in your Web browser so that you can
easily locate it
if you need technical assistance. Also, please submit one problem per report.

Note: You do not have to remove earlier versions of JAWS to install
JAWS 10. Your previous versions will continue to function when you
have JAWS 10 installed,
just as each new major version release of JAWS has in the past.

JAWS 10 Features
JAWS Release 10 offers several new features and improvements as
described on this page. To learn more, read the entire What's New, or,
if you are a JAWS
user, press INSERT+F6 to open a list of headings and then jump
directly to a specific item. Note that JAWS 10 supports 32-bit
versions of Windows Vista,
Windows XP, Windows 2008 Server, and Windows 2003 Server operating
systems. Windows 2000 users need to continue using JAWS 9.

JAWS Tandem - Listen to the September FSCast for an Overview
JAWS TandemT lets you access another JAWS computer so that you can
provide hands-on technical support, write and distribute scripts from
a distance, and
conduct remote JAWS training. It consists of a controller system, used
by support personnel, distributors, dealers, consultants, and
trainers, and a target
system, which is a customer's computer and JAWS application.

A connection, also known as an online meeting between two systems, can
take place using the Internet or over a local network. The Internet
meeting process
is called a Tandem Center session, while the local network method is
called a Tandem Direct session. In a Tandem Center session, JAWS
Tandem running as
a controller is a subscription service; JAWS Tandem running as a
target is free. (With the initial release of JAWS 10, controller
functionality is being
offered for free for a limited time.) In a Tandem Direct session, a
one-time activation fee is required.

You can find JAWS Tandem controls under the Utilities menu of the JAWS
application window. For information and procedures describing how to
use this feature,
refer to the Quick Start Guide in the JAWS Tandem submenu or the new
JAWS Tandem book and topics in the JAWS help file located in the Help
submenu.

Note: If you would like to learn more about JAWS Tandem, listen to the
list of Frequently Asked Questions for JAWS Tandem or listen to the
September 2008
FSCast for more about this exciting new feature.

iTunes 8 Support
JAWS now provides access to iTunes(R) 8, including support for the
iTunes Store. Using the virtual cursor, you can browse and search the

Surf's Up! Surfing the Internet with JAWS

Surf's Up!
, the Freedom Scientific Web page that explains how to surf the Web
with JAWS, has been updated to help instructors and students take
advantage of the new
JAWS 10 features that are mentioned on this page. Pay particular
attention to the Forms page. It gives great details for using the new
Auto Forms Mode
function.

Auto Forms Mode

Forms Mode is a function of JAWS that lets you type text into edit
fields or select combo box values on Web pages and Adobe Acrobat
forms. By default, when
using Navigation Quick Keys such as F for next form field or E for
next edit box, you must manually turn on Forms Mode using ENTER or NUM
PAD PLUS and
turn off Forms Mode using ESC. The manual method for controlling Forms
Mode may be better suited for experienced JAWS users.

Auto Forms Mode automatically turns on Forms Mode when you move into
combo box controls using TAB, or edit fields using TAB and ARROW Keys.
This means that
you can freely type in the edit field without having to first press
ENTER. When you exit the control, Forms Mode turns off. This
functionality can be very
useful for new and sighted JAWS users in training environments. By
default, Auto Forms Mode is on. There are two ways to turn it off.
First, you can press

INSERT+V and then change the Auto Forms Mode option to off. Second,
you can use the new Forms Mode Options dialog located in Configuration
Manager.

RealSpeak Solo Direct Synthesizers

JAWS 10 supports RealSpeak™ Solo Direct synthesizers from Nuance(R)
Communications. These new synthesizers work exclusively with Freedom
Scientific products,
provide better speed and performance over the Nuance synthesizers
supplied with earlier JAWS versions, and will not interfere with any
synthesizers currently
installed on your system. To listen to samples or download these
synthesizers, go to the
RealSpeak Solo Direct Voices for Freedom Scientific Products
 Web page.

Another way to open this page is to use the new RealSpeak Solo Direct
link available in the JAWS application window. The link is in Web
Resources under
the Help menu.

Dictionary Manager Tree View

The Dictionary Manager lets you change the way JAWS speaks words,
phrases, abbreviations, or symbols to avoid any mispronunciation. In
JAWS 10, the Dictionary
manager has been expanded so that you can create rules applying to
specific languages, synthesizers, or voices. Once the rule is created,
it is added to
the top of the Dictionary Entries list. It is identified by language,
for example, English, and can be expanded into a tree view to show
other restrictions
that apply to the rule. To open the Dictionary Manager in any
application, press INSERT+D.

Navigation Quick Key Manager

Navigation Quick Keys are convenient keystrokes that let you quickly
move around Web pages, PDF files, Word documents, and Outlook e-mail
messages. Beginning
with JAWS 10, you can now change the keystroke assigned to a quick key
with any unassigned letter or number using the Navigation Quick Key
Manager. This
gives you the flexibility of assigning a character that is easy for
you to remember. Any changes that you make are immediately applied to
the new quick
key assignment. To open a Navigation Quick Key Manager from within an
application, press INSERT+F2, N, and then ENTER.

Voice Profiles

The Global Voices and Individual Voices profiles in JAWS have been
updated to closely match functionality available in MAGic 11 and
later. These profiles
let you create and save speech rate, pitch, synthesizer, language,
punctuation level, and other speech options. Use the Default and
Application radio buttons
to apply the voice settings as new JAWS default values or as voice
settings to a specific application. For more information about these
items, open the
JAWS Help file, select the Using JAWS book from the Table of Contents
pane, and then open the Voice Settings book.

To open the dialog box for either voice profile, choose Options
(ALT+O) from the JAWS application window, select Voices (V), and then
select Global Adjustment
(G) or Individual Voice Adjustment (I). To change voice profiles on
the fly, press
INSERT+CTRL+S to open the Select a Voice Profile dialog box, and then
select a profile from the list.

Language Menu Changes

The Synthesizer Language and Change Synthesizer commands have been
removed from the Language menu in the JAWS application window and been
replaced by the
Voice Profiles command. This new command lets you select and instantly
switch to another synthesizer and voice combination that you set up as
a voice profile.
For more about voice profiles, open the JAWS Help file, and refer to
the Global Voices or Individual Voices topics. These topics are found
in Voice Settings
in the Using JAWS book.
