Start reading books, Initially do read those books in which you have interest the most. In this way, your vocabulary and understanding will improve gradually.Sent from my iPhoneOn Mar 5, 2024, at 10:02, Sanjib Dash wrote:Hi Aman,American and British accents are different and also the English vocabulary are different for both. 2024-03-04 Thread Sanjib Dash
Hi Aman,
American and British accents are different and also the English vocabulary
are different for both. In India we have been exposed to the British
version suitably watered down but usage of computers has led to the change
to American English through usage if Windows and Office.

I can understand your challenge.

I suggest, to listen to English podcasts in addition to the fantastic
suggestions that our friends have provided here.
I am not sure of the accessibility but there is a website which provides
podcasts focused on learning and improving English. I had used it for some
of my students earlier.

https://www.podcastsinenglish.com/

Check this out. Hope it helps.
Apart from this there are other podcasts where if you can control the speed
of the delivery. Audible also provides audio books where you can vary pace.
This will improve understanding.
Slow process but achievable.

Best wishes.

The dictionary suggested by Amiyo is the best available. About
newspapers you could go for The Times, The Guardian, The New York
Times, The Independent, The Daily Telegraph. Don't have to subscribe,
just search online and read a few interesting articles daily.
All the best

2024-03-04 Thread Amiyo Biswas
I think, you are already writing good English. You need some command over
vocabulary to read literature. So, install WordWeb on your pc. It's a free and
accessible dictionary.

I don't know the books you have. I recommend starting with books by Jane Austen
and Oscar Wilde. You may consider reading thrillers. Since these books are
absorbing, the thrill and curiosity will lead you to the end.

Hi, to begin with, I'd recommend two things:
1. try to improve your vocabulary. So, don't just keep reading, look
for the meaning/ correct usage of each word you are not familiar with.
Online dictionaries and even google will be helpful
2. Read top foreignnewspapers. This will give you a good idea about
the flow and writing style. You can even choose literary articles from
these newspapers/ magazines

[AI] learn English to read foreign books

2024-03-04 Thread Aman Preet Singh
Hi all! As the subject line indicates, I want to learn English/foreign English,
for purpose of reading foreign literature like books from the US or UK. I have
plenty of books and magazines in Braille came from UK and US based NGOs. But
when I try to read them, I feel difficulties to understand them. Is there any
course/books in Braille or accessible format which I can learn through and
understand. Waiting for your kind response. Thanks.
