Subject: [AI] A hello to all

Hello all,

This is Megha, and I recently joined Access India mailing group.
I have Retina distrophy, almost similar to RP. I started experiencing the
impact of retina distrophy since I was in 8th grade, but could see manageable
till graduation.

Desired to be an air hostess, ended qualifying as a Company Secretary, and now
working as an accessibility specialist.
Strange I know, but this is all due to darkness of unawareness.

Air hostess job required some minimum sight which I knew I dont have.
Then spent years to qualify as CS, as I was not willing to take scribe for my
exams. Finally qualified as I agreed for a scribe and accepted my impairment.
Even then, I spent a long time at home and could not find suitable work
opportunity for me.

Co-incidently I came to know about screen reader, organizations providing
training in them and then started my journey again.
I got employed in 2017, and then with the guidance of mentors I chose to move
into the field of accessibility, and now well employed and confident to live
along with visual limitations.

I still definitely miss that I spent so many years qualifying as a CS but could
not work into, but I am happy that whatever I am doing now, its going great.

Happy to meet so many of you here, feels great to read about each story you
share.
Just thought to share a little about me, hoping that someone who is in his or
her initial journey, will feel confident that we can definitely do great.
All that is required is acceptance, awareness, and hard work with determination.

Stay happy!

Regards,
Megha
