Re: [AI] FW: Successful Effort with CBSE!

2013-03-02 Thread Ashmira Hamirani
i think that is a great achievement. to be able to give exams
independently is a very nice and a fulfilling experience. i know this
because i was one of the first students with visual impairment to
write an exam on computer in the tata institute of social sciences for
my masters in social work. it was a difficult thing then because the
institute was not ready to provide papers in soft coppy and the
moderator/incharge of the centre for persons with visual impairment
(the place where we had to give our exams due to installation of jaws
in the computer) had to scan the paper and we had to wait till he is
able to scan and edit the paper. it meant that we started the paper
half an hour after other students. also we had difficulties to
concentrate as there was a lot of noise in the centre.
i am happy that the cbse is positive about giving question papers in soft coppy.

 Subject: Successful Effort with CBSE!

 Dear Young Voices Delhi Group

It is my pleasure to share with you about the Central Board of
Secondary Education (CBSE)'s decision to provide the visually
challenged students with a computer at the examination centre during
the board exams. The computer will also be loaded with JAWS. The
question paper will be loaded in the computer, in Microsoft Word,
before the visually challenged student is given the paper to answer.

While it is a dream come true for all of us, it is my pleasure, as
well as a responsibility to share with you that my school Principal,
had helped me pursue it with the board. Naturally, it wasn't an easy
task, but for more than a year, my school Principal, Special Educator,
and my parents along with me, had been pursuing this with the board
and finally we have been successful. Of course, there were
disappointments, worries, but we never gave up, and finally, we have
been successful, in bringing a benefit not only to ourselves, but for
whole of the community of the visually challenged, to all those, who
want to write their exams independently.

We have been successful, in achieving another step, towards the
empowerment of the visually challenged! And this has been made
possible by the tireless, continuous, constant efforts and supports of
 my school Principal!

 Thanks and regards
 Vibhu Sharma

A point to be taken notice of is that it is ok to have scribes write for
you, but you will not have scribes working for you when you work. Hence
the practice of using scribes is perpetuating a practice of dependency.
Think about it!
