Re: [AI] NVDA is government authorised software?
If possible, do reach out to your top level management and tell them you are not there to complain but to explain. Tell them why NVDA is your screen reader of choice. Stress on a couple of things like it's powerful, efficient and FREE. Show them a couple of videos. Try and meet a person who is perhaps a bit sensitive. Good luck, That said, Kanchan, Amar, Harish et al, Is there something we can do to work with Ministry of HRD / Social Justice and IT to have assistive technology listed in approved software / hardware? NVDA is used by almost all the universities providing asistive technology and computers to the blind. Even the UGC's NAAC Committee appreciated the use of this open-source screen-reader in the place of commercial ones. When former MHRD Secretary visited our University, she appreciated our use of NVDA as the screen-reader for it being an open-source software. All the visually impaired faculty members, Central Library and Computer Center in Pondicherry University use NVDA in their official computers. and if your system administrator is very keen on buying an authorized software, That is, if he is keen on spending some money for this, you may purchase NVDA with eloquence and other Indian voice add-ons... Re: [AI] NVDA is government authorised software?
Hi Yogesh Sir, Though this is impractical, you could argue that the system administrator has the freedom to inspect NVDA's source code for any security issues. Also, in case you have a laptop or computer yourself with a copy of NVDA, an anti virus scan showing no alarms or threats with regards to NVDA could serve as evidence. I also accede with Aravind Sir's s suggestion. Testimonials of NVDA on NV Access's website, other online material recognizing NVDA may assist in your argument. Thanks. Re: [AI] NVDA is government authorised software?
Hi To answer specifically, I don't think, it is listed in the list of approved software. However, it is not listed in the restricted software either. It is not expected to be in the list of approved software. I haven't seen the list, therefore, I can't comment on it. However, the list would cover mainstream softwares like wordprocessors etc. Nvda is not a Mainstream product. It is a specialized software which enables a visually disabled person to use the main stream computer. It is an open source software which is also a freeware. It is used by blind persons across the globe both in their professional and in their individual capacity. In short, there is no problem in using it in your work environment. No security concerns would happen by using it.
