 Hello
many blind people including myself can distinguish one and two rupee
coins regardless of their shapes. You can always find a raised line
on one rupee coin which is not found in two rupee coins. That raised
line is symbol of one in print. any blind person can identify that
 line very easily.

Yes, the needless inaccessibility of new rupee two coins ought to be
vehemently protested.
As far as letters to editors are concerned, I have observed that newspapers
have virtually stopped paying any heed to any disability related news or
opinions. case of recently adopted international convention for the
protection and rights and dignity of persons with disability is obvious. No
print media barring a few editions of a few cared about it. My repeated
letter to the Hindu and its readers' editor are gathering dust to this day.

Do write and let me know if any letters to editors about this issue are
published. I think it would be a nice practice to post the published copies
of letters/complaints about various disability related issues to this list
as well. Initially, Hindu did publish a few letters of mine about various

 Dear Friends,

There is no doubt that the differing shapes and sizes
of the currency coins and notes has made it easier for
VH people to identify them. It has greatly contributed
to our self configence and ability to conduct monetary
 transactions independently.

This move to make the Rupee 2 coins similar to the 1
Rupee coins will make it difficult, if not impossible
for VH to distinguish between the two. So, I agree
with the people who have posted on this topic that we
should make the Government aware of this issue at the
 initial stages.

But the question I want answered is how do we go about
making our protest heard. Doubtless, our friends in
NAB and RBI are in a position to oppose these new
coins and will do so. But how can the other members
participate in opposing these new coins? Is theere an
email Id or postal address where we can send our
complaints? Or is there any other means by which we
can participate and help our NAB friends in opposing
 these new coins?

hello harish ji thanx a lot for the vital
 information. we all must agree
that the introduction of the new 2 rs coins without
 the edge will make it
very difficult for people like us to deal with such
 coins. we all must, as
early as posible do something about it before it
 gets too late.

Subject: [AI] New 2 RS. coin inaccessable

  Hello
The government has introduced new stainless steel
 Rs.2 coins rescently.
The edges of the earlier 2 rupee coins had a wavy
 edge fascilitating easy
detection of the rupee 1 coin from the rupee 2
ones by the blind. The new
coins are having rounded edges like the rupee 1
 coin.

I would urge all organisations for the disabled
 protest against it and ask
for its withdrawal. Individuals too should
 highlight in the letter to
  editor columns of different dailies.

  Harish.
