try the debug patch in which the query_pending bit is cleared after processing
EC notification event

Will you please try the debug patch on the latest kernel and see whether the
number of ACPI interrupt is increased as fast as before?( cd
/sys/firmware/acpi/interrupts/ ; grep . *)
In this debug patch the query_pending bit is cleared after EC notification
event is processed. At the same time the source about detecting EC storm is
disabled.

Thanks.

Tried that too... irq number is increased about 10x times.
Oops. No, this approach does not change anything visible. There was a patch,
where GPE is disabled while query is not services, it helped to reduce number
of interrupts
by about 3-5 times.
Will you please try the debug patch on the latest kernel and see whether the
number of ACPI interrupt is increased as fast as before?( cd

Hi, Alexey
Maybe this patch can't change anything visible. But the number of ACPI
interrupt won't be increased as fast as before. On some laptops if the
Query_pending bit is cleared too early, maybe one EC notification event is
processed twice or more.
   Thanks.

By not visible I mean also that number of interrupts does not change
dramatically.
And you are diverging from spec by doing this.

Okay. This time it's really in the git tree. That means it's hotfixed in
2.6.27:

Dear Ykzhao, are you still researching on the root cause of the bug or should
we close this bug now?

--- Comment #115 from [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2008-09-03 01:34 ---
There is no definition about how to process the EC notification event in ACPI
spec. In the current upstream kernel when GPE interrupt is serviced, the GPE is
deferred to be enabled again only after the GPE method is fully
evaluated.(Including the notification event).
Maybe it is also appropriate that the query_pending bit is cleared after EC
notification event is processed.(_Qxx method is evaluated).

In fact on my laptop the SCI_EVT bit is always set before the _Qxx method is
evaluated. If the patch in comment #110 is applied, one EC notification event
is processed three times. If the notification event is related with battery,
maybe a lot of EC interrupts are at all meaningless.

Which branch are you talking about?
I cloned git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/ak/linux-acpi-2.6.git
but can't find any related commits there.
I came here from bug 10448 which was marked as duplicate and describes the
freezing of a Samsung q45 on loading video.ko.
Unfortunately the latest code from the git repository above still freezes my
samsung and the latest patch found in this bug-report doesn't run cleanly
against 2.6.25.
Thanks in advance.

I really don't know much about the operations you mention here. I however run
'cat /proc/acpi/event' and i had a 'no such file or directory found' error
message. I however killed it using gnome-system-monitor but it the brightness
function keys still do not work. I am attaching the acpidump.

(In reply to comment #3)
with ACPI enabled, with ACPI video driver loaded,
can you change the brightness via the sysfs backlight interface
 (/sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/...) ?
can you change the brightness via the procfs I/F
 (/proc/acpi/video/xxx/yyy/brightness) ?
If yes, please kill acpid and run cat /proc/acpi/event. what can you see
 when
 pressing the hotkey?
If no, please attach the acpidump output.

[Bug 11331] Fan speed setting reset after suspend to disk/ram on Thinkpad X31

2008-09-03 Thread bugme-daemon

--- Comment #10 from [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2008-09-03 06:04 ---
I will change thinkpad-acpi, it is in the TODO list. It will reset fan speed
IF AND ONLY IF it was set to max or PWM OFF (which is a lot faster than max)
before suspend. Otherwise, it will NOT touch whatever the firmware set on
 resume.

So PWN OFF just uses whatever the true max speed of the fan is?
Interesting, how do you set that?

The dmesg output is after two suspend/resume cycles. I tryed nearly every
kernel version and every hack...

Also after two or three suspend-resume cycles the system is acting realy slow,
andwhile shuting down, I need to press keys or nothing happens while
shuting down all processes.

Hi, Dan
Do you mean that the system can work well now? Will you please double check
whether the following message still exists?
ACPI Error (evregion-0315): No handler for Region [EC__] (88007f8145e8)
[EmbeddedControl] [20080609]
ACPI Error (exfldio-0291): Region EmbeddedControl(3) has no handler [20080609]
ACPI Error (psparse-0530): Method parse/execution failed
[\_SB_.PCI0.SBRG.EC__.BAT1._STA] (Node 88007f815fc0), AE_NOT_EXIST

In fact the above message won't break anything. Of course the system can
work well. But it is confusing. Maybe we should also fix it.

try the debug patch in which the ACPI reboot is used forcibly

Will you please try the debug patch on 2.6.27-rc5 and see whether the system
can be rebooted after it is resumed? Of course the boot option of reboot=a is
also required.
In this debug patch the ACPI reboot mechanism will be used forcibly
regardless of ACPI_FADT_RESET_REGISTER bit flag.

   Thanks.

[Bug 11331] Fan speed setting reset after suspend to disk/ram on Thinkpad X31

2008-09-03 Thread bugme-daemon
http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11331

--- Comment #11 from [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2008-09-03 20:04 ---
You set pwm1_enable to 0 on the thinkpad_hwmon attributes. See the
thinkpad-acpi documentation in your kernel's Documentation/laptops/ directory,
as well as the hwmon documentation in Documentation/hwmon/sysfs-interface.

And if continuous use of that mode that damages your fan, the MOSFET fan driver
(which requires an extremely expensive motherboard change to repair, as far as
Lenovo is concerned), or fills up your thinkpad with dust, it is your own
fault. Operation of a thinkpad outside of fan mode auto (pwm1_enable = 2) is
done on your own risk, and might void your warranty.

[Bug 11478] Brightness function keys do not work when acpi is enabled on Gateway m-1624

please check the kernel config file and make sure

(In reply to comment #5)
I really don't know much about the operations you mention here. I however run
'cat /proc/acpi/event' and i had a 'no such file or directory found' error
 message.
Please attach the kernel config file here.
Please make sure CONFIG_ACPI_PROC_EVENT is set in your kernel config.

I however killed it using gnome-system-monitor but it the brightness
function keys still do not work. I am attaching the acpidump.

 (In reply to comment #3)
with ACPI enabled, with ACPI video driver loaded,
can you change the brightness via the sysfs backlight interface
  (/sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/...) ?
please run the following commands:
echo 0  /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness;
echo 7  /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness;
is the brightness acutally changed?
