http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11516 --- Comment #56 from [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2008-10-16 03:32 --- Jason, thanks for the lspci output. It shows that timer interrupt is routed to INT0 of IOAPIC. Thus the propagated override for IRQ0 on your Laptop is bogus. (1) My patch from comment #52 should address and fix that problem. Without the need to add every now and then new Laptop models to the DMI list you are referring to. (2) All dmi-quirks dmi_ignore_irq0_timer_override should be removed (IMHO). I'll post a patch for this asap. (3) The usb-problem is another thing -- to open a new bugzilla is the right thing to do. Maybe you should have a look at bug #11715 -- symptoms are very similar. It just seems to be a slightly different laptop model than yours. This best explains why a DMI based quirk sucks to solve this problem. If you like to test my patch you should comment out the dmi quirk for HP 6715b laptop in arch/x86/acpi/boot.c -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.kernel.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is. - This SF.Net email is sponsored by the Moblin Your Move Developer's challenge Build the coolest Linux based applications with Moblin SDK win great prizes Grand prize is a trip for two to an Open Source event anywhere in the world http://moblin-contest.org/redirect.php?banner_id=100url=/ ___ acpi-bugzilla mailing list acpi-bugzilla@lists.sourceforge.net https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/acpi-bugzilla

http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11714 --- Comment #33 from [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2008-10-16 11:33 --- The cpuid4 emulation is independent of ACPI yes and should be active in MPS mode too. Also the _exit function should be only called at boot when some error happens. It might be interesting to find out what error that is. It must be one of the kobject_register() failing. They fix the detection of the USB hub built into the dock, but that's not this bug. On booting undocked, then docking, the docking event isn't detected. It appears to be that it assumes it's already docked. On pressing the undock button, an undock event happens, then you can re-dock with the event being detected correctly. Similarly, the Ultrabay (built-in, not in dock) only seems to be generating an ACPI eject event every second time the bay eject is requested. It doesn't fix the Yenta problem, I'm afraid. [Bug 11345] CPUIDLE does not see C2, C3 on SMP Opteron system
http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11345 --- Comment #21 from [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2008-10-16 16:09 --- For the record, the bug here isn't that C2 and C3 were not seen, as originally reported. While C2 and C3 values are reported in the FADT, FADT.P_LVL2_UP is 0, which means that C2 is _not_ supported on SMP mode on this box. So ACPI is properly not using C2 and C3 on CPU0. Indeed, we should fix /proc/acpi/processor/*/power so that it doesn't even mention them in SMP mode. We could probably use them in UP mode, but this box would be pretty un-interesting in UP mode. But the more important bug, which is fixed by venki's patch above, is that when the processors did not have a _CST, we were polling instead of using C1 on all processors. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.kernel.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

[Bug 11421] ACPI Exception (thermal-0377): AE_OK, No or invalid critical threshold [20080321] - HP dv5z
http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11421 [EMAIL PROTECTED] changed: What|Removed |Added Status|RESOLVED|CLOSED Summary|HP dv5z DSDT is broken |ACPI Exception (thermal- ||0377): AE_OK, No or invalid ||critical threshold ||[20080321] - HP dv5z --- Comment #8 from [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2008-10-16 17:41 --- re: comment #1 If Windows 6 is detected, TPOS = 0x41. For Linux it defaults to 0x80. Linux has not returned true for OSI(Linux) since 2.6.22. This bug is filed against 2.6.26, so here we are executing the path the same way Vista does: If (_OSI (Windows 2006)) { Store (0x40, OSTB) Store (0x40, TPOS) } If (_OSI (Windows 2006 SP1)) { Store (0x41, OSTB) Store (0x40, TPOS) } ie. Linux will see (TPOS == 0x40) So when we come to the thermal zone: Method (_HOT, 0, Serialized) { If (LEqual (TPOS, 0x40)) { Return (Add (0x0AAC, Multiply (TPC, 0x0A))) } # BIOS bug: # everything except Vista (TPOS==0x40) # and Linux -- which pretends to be Vista # will implicit return here. # But Linux and Vista will have a valid return here. } Method (_CRT, 0, Serialized) { If (LLess (TPOS, 0x40)) { Return (Add (0x0AAC, Multiply (TPC, 0x0A))) } # BIOS bug: # releases older than Visa (TPOS 0x40) # will get a valid _CRT, but # Vista and Linux pretending to be Vista will # get an implicit return, which depending # on the version of Linux will be 0 or some random value. } So Linux is doing the right thing by rejecting the _CRT. The only question is if we should nuke the whole thermal zone or not. I'm inclined to think not, but we'll deal with that in bug 10686. re: comment #5 Yes, I understand that BIOS bugs are still a problem, and always will be. The point of the quoted text (which I wrote) is that our goal is for Linux to handle common industry practice aka BIOS bugs by default, and not require users to modify their DSDT to get their systems working. If somebody still wants to modify their DSDT, more power to them. However, the result is not a system that any distro can support. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.kernel.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

[Bug 11481] Suspend/Resume prevent kernel reboot
http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11481 --- Comment #15 from [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2008-10-16 20:01 --- The default reboot_type is BOOT_KBD. It works for most boxes. But for some boxes it can't work well after suspend/resume. So the ACPI reboot mechanim is used by adding the boot option of reboot=a. Maybe the reboot_type can be changed to BOOT_ACPI if the ACPI reboot mechanism is supported. But in such case the other reboot_type can't be used any more. If the default reboot_type is changed to BOOT_ACPI for your box by using DMI table, it seems ugly. IMO you can use the ACPI reboot mechanism by adding the boot option of reboot=a. In fact there exist the other definitions of reboot_type . For example: BOOT_TRIPLE = 't', BOOT_KBD = 'k', #ifdef CONFIG_X86_32 BOOT_BIOS = 'b', #endif BOOT_ACPI = 'a', BOOT_EFI = 'e' What Lenb said in comment #14 is right. On your box the FADT flag bit indicates that ACPI reboot is not supported. But your box can be rebooted by writing the RESET_VALUE to ACPI_RESET_REG forcibly. And the patch in comment #12 is to ignore the missing bit in the BIOS.
