I can confirm this issue as well. This issue is not present with my 3.4.6
kernel, only 3.5.0. Additionally, my hardware does not appear to ever power
down. While it does suspend and resume successfully, it does not stay in a
suspended state.

If any information or logs are needed from my system, just let me know.

[Bug 42690] powertop reports power regression on "Globetrotter HSDPA modem"

--- Comment #3 from s...@tiscali.it 2012-07-28 00:30:14 ---
I'm investigating the issue.
Changing the /sys/bus/usb/devices/usb4/4-1/power/control from "on" to "auto",
have the right effect to auto-suspend the HDSPA modem. This will save about 500
mW. More investigations revealed that in Ubuntu 12.04, this device has the
maximum power usage setted to 500mW (found with the command "lsusb -v", at the
line "MaxPower"). So suspending this device has less effect on power
consumption compared to previous version of Ubuntu (~ 1W).
This mean that there is something else that had raised its power usage. (this
can be related only to Ubuntu and not Linux)

However, the changes at the file /sys/bus/usb/devices/usb4/4-1/power/control
will reset at the next reboot of the netbook.
1) So, how can I make that changes be permanent?
2) If these are not permanent, this means that some other process at the boot
will automatically check the devices and will sets the power properties to
them. Can someone tell me which process do this control (because is obviously
bugged)?

If someone can help me with these questions, I can continue to investigate this
issue.

Thanks.

(P.S. Kernel 3.5 also have this issue)

This is true also for Thinkpad edge 530. They changed once again the EC config
it seems. This bug is likely a dup of bug #38082

If someone want a tester or would just mind to explain me the basis of this
stuff so I can just write it myself, make a whistle.

[Bug 45161] Suspend/resume fails with pm_test=processors

--- Comment #2 from Alessandro Pignotti 2012-07-27

I've spent some time debugging the issue. Using printks I have been able to
find out that the hang happens in the method called

cpu_stop_cpu_callback

And exactly in the case CPU_POST_DEAD inside the switch. The call to
kthread_stop never returns.

At this point I don't think that ACPI is the proper component to report the bug
in. Any suggestion about a more proper place? Also any hint on how to move
forward in the investigation is very welcome.

[Bug 45221] New: Wrong ACPI event sent when unplug the AC on thinkpad e530

2012-07-27 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=45221

Summary: Wrong ACPI event sent when unplug the AC on thinkpad
e530
   Product: ACPI
   Version: 2.5
Kernel Version: 3.5.0
  Platform: All
OS/Version: Linux
  Tree: Mainline
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: P1
 Component: Power-Battery
AssignedTo: acpi_power-batt...@kernel-bugs.osdl.org
ReportedBy: enrico.tagliav...@gmail.com
Regression: No

Created an attachment (id=76261)
 --> (https://bugzilla.kernel.org/attachment.cgi?id=76261)
acpi dump, dmesg and syslogs

When I boot the computer with the AC plugged and then unplug it the system
doesn't always catch the change. I run KDE 4.8 and its power management still
says the AC is still connected. KDE relies on upower so on ACPI IIRC. I done
some edit to the default acpid scripts to be more verbose (it is attached with
the other stuff). What I see when I unplug the AC is:
   ac_adapter ACPI0003:00 0080 0001
which is indeed the wrong event! This event is the one when you plugin the AC.
I checked /sys/class/power_supply/AC/online and it says 0, so the change is
detected correctly.

When I boot the computer without the AC attached the correct state is
recognized by ACPI and KDE. If I insert the AC and then unplug it again the
issue sometimes happens again.

This is a thinkpad e530 (edge series) computer running gentoo linux (mostly the
stable branch) with kernel gentoo-source-3.5.0. I can attach my kernel config
if needed.

I think this issue is caused by the EC to become confused by something the
kernel does. For example in this moment when the AC detector works the F1-12
keys and the multimedia keys are swapped! I have the legacy setting in the BIOS
(meaning if I hit the F1 key I get the F1 key, not the Mute speaker even
generated), but still sometimes the settings swaps at runtime!

I have attached a tar archive (sorry but they are a lot of files) with acpidump
binary output, dmesg after a fresh boot from battery and AC and the syslog when
switching from the AC to the battery (from an AC boot) and from battery to AC
(from a battery boot).
