[Bug 19702] i5-450M CPU gets stuck in low/lowest state
https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=19702 --- Comment #44 from Peter Ganzhorn 2010-11-04 08:15:11 --- > Also the fact that only one CPU is affected very much points to defect HW. I got only one CPU, but two CPU cores - by CPU you meant "CPU core", right? > remove the aperfmperf capabilties line from arch/x86/kernel/include/asm/cpufeatures.h I'll try that with a vanilla kernel to see if I run into other problems with that. (That will remove the capability system-wide, not only for the cpufreq subsystem, right?) If it helps: I installed Windows XP on another partition on my affected laptop, frequency scaling works just fine there... -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.kernel.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug. -- The Next 800 Companies to Lead America's Growth: New Video Whitepaper David G. [Bug 19702] i5-450M CPU gets stuck in low/lowest state
https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=19702 --- Comment #45 from Thomas Renninger 2010-11-04 08:41:33 --- Another possibility that does not require kernel rebuilding is to use the userspace governor and a cpufreq userspace daemon. I expect they do not use aperf/mperf. Here is a nice overview of packages that are out there: http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/power-management-guide.xml Other CPU Speed Utilities > by CPU you meant "CPU core", right? [Bug 21322] no detection whether power cord is unplugged or not
https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=21322 --- Comment #22 from Chris 2010-11-04 12:04:46 --- Zhang Rui, The latest _Q20 method seems to solve the problem! I tried about 10 times at different moments, and the screen always dimmed. Good stuff.. well done! :-) Is this potentially a bug which could hit more people than just me? (like the ones in https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=233854) What's going to happen next? I should note that i'm not particularly hit by this bug.. I usually have the AC-adapter plugged in. But if any more help is needed, I'm here. This has been a great learning experience. :-) Although.. can i order a new AC-adapter from the Linux foundation? the plug is getting worn out. ;-) Just joking. :) Regards, Chris -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.kernel.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug. -- The Next 800 Companies to Lead America's Growth: New Video Whitepaper David G. [Bug 572827] dell_laptop: Hardware wifi activation fails, causes kernel bug
Please do not reply directly to this email. All additional comments should be made in the comments box of this bug. https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=572827 --- Comment #11 from Neil Katin 2010-11-05 02:41:25 EDT --- I just tested on Fedora 14. It still doesn't work, but is "less broken". It no longer causes kernel errors when the RF switch is enabled if it was disabled at boot. On the other hand, the WIFI will still only if it is enabled before the system is booted. This is what is printed: [ 265.964504] iwlagn :0c:00.0: RF_KILL bit toggled to enable radio. [ 265.970813] iwlagn :0c:00.0: RF_KILL bit toggled to disable radio. So the radio is enabled, and then 50 milliseconds later it is disabled. This is repeatable for my card. Enabling/disabling continues to work fine if the wifi card is enabled before booting. My hardware is a dell vostro 1700, with a intel 4965 AGN wireless card (pci id 8086:4229 rev 61) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug. -- The Next 800 Companies to Lead America's Growth: New Video Whitepaper David G.
