2002-06-24 Thread Salandra, Justin A.

Can you take an existing NT4 Domain and upgrade to Win 2K and when DCPromo
runs make it a child domain of a domain root when the AD Domain is running
in native mode? I want to find a way to bring in the machine accounts with
out having to use a tool to migrate them in. Thanks

[ActiveDir] XP AdminPak Display Bug?

Hi all,

I can't customise the columns in the XP version of ADUC, e.g. to view
username/email address. Is this a known issue or am I being silly?

Is there a list of known bugs for the XP AdminPak anywhere? I'm about to
start administering my production domain with the tools and want to make
sure there's nothing nasty waiting for me :)

It is still in beta. There are quite a few things that you can't do (at
least they are harder to do), such as Exchange 2000 admin. But some
things are a lot better, such as the way they do remote control.

What sort of custom security have you implemented? [1]

Probably the best (and maybe only) way to find out is to pull a BDC out to

RE: [ActiveDir] Migration Question

2002-06-24 Thread Salandra, Justin A.

This I will have to get back to you on because this domain I do not control
directly, we are a healthcare system that is at the final stages of becoming
a full system, meaning that I need to now think of a way of taking all these
separate domains and making them into one domain tree.

I guess to answer you question to the best of my ability, when users login,
certain parts of the OS are locked, like you can't use the run on the start
menu or right click on the desktop to change background stuff and so on. I
don't know what product he uses to do this.

I believe in this case it "tattoos" the registry. That is it makes the
changes permanent to the local registry. Once it is done the only way to

loged out and logged back in. I current have 2 users on this machine one
is the administrator and one is the test account. I've corrected the
mistake in the default domain policy but the users on the machine don't
seem to have had the change effect them yet. Is there anyways to get
these changes to update to the current users?

Thanks

RE: [ActiveDir] Group Policy Folder Redirection Question

Know where I can fix that in the registry?

I believe in this case it "tattoos" the registry. That is it makes the
changes permanent to the local registry. Once it is done the only way
to undo is manually edit the registry.

Chris,

It should work pretty much instantly.
To refresh the policy you can use secedit /refreshpolicy or more
recently gpupdate (XP).

Ok so I have a new server and a new domain that I'm setting up. I was
editing the default domain policy and I was setting up folder
redirection. I set up the applictaion data to redirect to
\\server\share\%username%\ and the same place with the My Documents and
the Desktop folder. I realised my mistake of not adding the \My

loged out and logged back in. I current have 2 users on this machine one

Re: [ActiveDir] Migration Question

2002-06-24 Thread Glenn Corbett

As with most questions regarding Windowsit depends.

If you have just used the standard security facilities to lock down desktop
etc (ie Policy) then this stuff can be transferred. If you have implemented
other things, like say NDS, GINA replacements etc, they can be a bit more
tricky.

Nope, its an oxymoron, a Win2k DC IS an AD Domain controller.

Hi,

Is there a way to get hold of this tool without
shelling out $$$ to buy the resource kit?
I need to generate an OID since I am extending the AD

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Re: [ActiveDir] oidgen.exe

2002-06-24 Thread Tony Murray

Oidgen.exe is part of the Windows 2000 Resource Kit. Some of the tools associated
with the Resource Kit are available for for free download:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/techinfo/reskit/tools/default.asp

Unfortunately, oidgen.exe is not one of them. It looks like you will need to buy the
Resource Kit.
