5. Why did PSS2 not put the ENTERPISE DCs in the Default DC Policy for
access this computer from the network when PSS3 lady said they had to be
there?

Thanks for your time and patience.

I'll shut up now Laura :)

p.s. If anyone needs any of the PSS case #s I'll provide those off list.

Yes this Box is a DC in my Network.

That is what makes me worry. why would a client machine win an
 election for Network Browser master.

Had a network where browstat showed 16 master browsers (1 DC, 2 SQL servers
and 13 XP SP2 PCs) on the network. They had another issue we were tracking
down so PSS had the customer disable the Computer Browser service on all
servers but the PDC Emulator DC and issue a GPO to disable that service on
all PCs. That stopped the browser master wars (reducing network traffic)
and helped us narrow down the other issue (1 building could not browse the
network and no other building could see them in NN).

Forgive me if this is an obvious thing and my Google-fu is just
failing me, but can someone remind me of the maximum string length on
this when running 2003? I'm finding conflicting references between
 255 and 512 characters.

Laura,

Since I had nothing better to do, I tested this for you. It allowed me to
enter 2048 characters on my 2003 SP1 server. Now how many it will display
is up for grabs.

Laura, you probably found this anyway, but here is specifies 512.

 http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=310430

And from the bottom of that KB:

Note If you do not use carriage returns in your display message, the maximum
number of characters that you can add to the logon box is 512. If you add
carriage returns, you can and add up to 2048 characters (512 characters per
line).

Should have just read it and saved myself the work. Laura you owe me some
Hagan Daaz in Boston next year. :)

My experience with XCOPY is that with large amounts of data
 it suddendly quits.

Jorge,

Try XXCopy. Works great.

I need to copy our file sharing folder between 2 different
 servers under
2 different domain, but same forest. Any Microsoft tools
that will let me copy all the file/folder with security
intact ?. I know there's a tool called secure copy from
different vendor, I just wonder if Microsoft has it too.

H, this last bit just piqued my interest:

 [joe]
I think lastKnownParent is only available on objects deleted
 on a K3 DC.

 [Dean]
Not quite, your statement is true ... but only to a point.
Assuming the origin of the move operation was a 2K3 DC...

 [Laura] *stares*

Okay, what's the difference between what the two of you just
 said?

Laura,

Seems slightly diff to me Laura. [Dean] appears to be saying that if the
move operation started on a K3 DC it could have ended on a 2K DC and
lastKnownParent would still be populated on the 2K DC.

Makes sense to me.
