Fair enough…I hope others have a better experience than I did. Even ntbackup wouldn’t work without a patch and re-install of MSDE. As the MS tech who helped me with the issue put it…”Well that’s nuts…” Couldn’t have put it better myself J -Original Message- From: Joe Pochedley [mailto:joe[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Friday, April 09, 2004 10:15 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: [ActiveDir] Join other DCs to an SBS2k or 2k3 domain? Seems like I turned off more features than I turned on. Several patches for SBS-specific bugs later, I finally have it stable. I will *never* recommend that behemoth again…Give me plain vanilla Win2003 Server anytime.

It hasn't come up for me on SBS 2003, so I can't speak with certainty. However, for both SBS 2000 and SBS 4.5 before it, there were migration paths through something called a "BackOffice Upgrade" which sent you full versions of the OS and every server (SQL, Exchange, Proxy/ISA), plus upgrade CALs to go from SBS CALs to "Core CALs". I presume a similar thing is true for SBS 2003. It seems to me that if you purchase all of the correct CALS / Seat Licenses, Server Licenses, etc... then there should be no legal problems to this. Right? I've also read somewhere that you could not migrate users from an SBS built domain to another AD domain. I assumed this was because you could not have Win2k or 2k3 DCs in the domain.
