RE: [ActiveDir] OT: SUS Question

2003-09-25 Thread Wright, T. MR
Title: Message

I just jumped on the SUS bandwagon, we
have also been using update expert but have a lot of laptops that go off the network
quite frequently. So I have setup SUS and its running fine, I would
like to use the option to just download and apply the patch no questions asked
and then prompt the user to reboot if they are logged on. My only problem is
that all of my users are local admins on their machines. Due to that it seems
as if they will still have the option to load the patches or not when the
scheduled time comes around, and if I schedule in the middle of the night then
chances are their laptops will not be on the network. My question is a.) Is
there anyway to suppress that message even to administrators or b.) make
the if no answer is given proceed time like 1 second, rather than
the 90 seconds I believe it is now.

TIA,

-Tim

Definitely approve all past patches - in
case you bring another machine online or if you missed that one machine in the
corner.

When we
setup SUS we approved all patches. If the machine already had the patch
it just ignored it. It did not reapply patches that were already on the
machine.

Subject: [ActiveDir] OT: SUS
Question

I am
setting up a SUS Server inhouse and I am in the middle of syncing with
MS. My question is that the server is downloading all the patches from
MS, like ones from 2002 on. Should I not approve those updates and only
start from this day on or should I allow those updates to be approved?
Most computers have already had these patches in the past, what would the harm
be to have them reapplied, or would they even reapply if they already exist?

Your help
is appreciated.
