TDP for SAP R/3 with MS/SQL database
Greetings, Which TDP product would be required for an SAP R/3 application on WindowsNT with Microsoft SQL database? As I understand it, the TDP for SAP R/3 uses the Oracle RMAN interface. Will this, or will this not, work with MS/SQL database? Is there something I am missing? TIA, John G. Talafous IS Technical Principal The Timken CompanyPhone: (330)-471-3390 P.O. TSM 3.7.3.0 database backup and recovery
APAR PQ38991 addresses the problem. The fix was made available in fixtest 3.7.3.8. The fix is also in 3.7.4.0. The problem is MVS only, and affects the CARTRIDGE devtype in levels 3.7.3.0 to 3.7.3.8, and in the 3590 devtype in levels 3.7.1.0 to 3.7.3.8. Database backup, Export, and backupset operations that generate more than one volume can be affected by this problem. The recommendation is to install the fix, and create new tapes by repeating the database backup, export or generate backupset operation. Carol Nylund Tivoli Storage Manager Development

anyone use CLIENTACTION from external scheduler?
Hello all, I am looking at running some CLIENTACTION scripts from our TSM server on MVS. I am trying to set it up so the client will do the backup, the MVS job/script waits for the backup to complete (WAIT=YES) , then have the script query the completion of the backup. This way I can find a way to report back to our scheduler and it can go on with bringing the data bases backup on the client, at the proper time, if the backup completes successfully or notify the proper person if it doesn't. I am playing around basically with the following script for starters. I was wondering if anyone else has already went down this road and can tell me any pitfalls or better ways of getting this done. Re: RV: Re: Client ver 3.7.2 - no SA software
You can use the command line or the command line interface in the web client to send anything to a flat text file and then import it into anything you want. Try q actlog > actlog.txt Or use your own variation. Then import it into any spreadsheet you want. IMHO this is much easier than the GUI. The Web client isn't that bad when you get used to it. The command line and gui that is available in the web client makes it extremely powerful. >There are too many things, in the WWW interface that do not work like the >SA gui or are simply not available. >For instance, I collect data transfer statistics. Re: RV: Re: Client ver 3.7.2 - no SA software
Nope. That is not it. We do not use proxy servers. I do not go through DNS processing, since the address isn't published. The OS390 system is in the next room, so the distance/connection is not an issue. What I do see in the ADSM log is the constant - SESSION STARTED - SESSION ENDED - SESSION STARTED - SESSION ENDED - etc for everything done through the WWW interface (WAD I believe). This adds considerable overhead !! Even discounting the slowness, it is still not as usable as the GUI interface (IMHO, of course) !! Maria Paz Gimeno To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RV: Re: Client ver 3.7.2 - no SA software Sent by: "ADSM: Dist Stor Manager" <[EMAIL PROTECTED] RIST.EDU> 11/10/00 06:42 AM Please respond to "ADSM: Dist Stor Manager" The problem with speed in the admin web interface could be related to your proxy, if you have one. We have a similar problem in a customer, the administrative web interface was very slow, and when we removed for the TSM server address to go thought the proxy, the response time was much much faster. It is just one idea Regards Maria - Original Message - From: Zoltan Forray/AC/VCU <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Thursday, November 09, 2000 5:39 PM Subject: Re: Client ver 3.7.2 - no SA software There are too many things, in the WWW interface that do not work like the SA gui or are simply not available. I do this by going to the SA GUI client, SERVER ACTIVITY LOG, select all 4961 messages and then SELECT / PRINT them to a file that is imported into a spreadsheet. Can't do this with the WWW interface. The output is wrapped (if you just cut/paste). No option to print to a file or with COMMA DELIM, etc. Also, did I mention it is dog-slow !!! I have tried using the WWW interface and after waiting 20 minutes (this is of course, after clicking through 8-levels to find something) for a query to return (and don't even think about suggesting our network is the issue. We run 1GB ethernet, FDDI, ATM, etc. Speed is not an issue), I jumped into the SA GUI program and the same query/info came back almost immediately !!!. You may use any web browser like Netscape to administrate the server, the address is default to dns of your server followed by port 1580, in my case it is http://pu01:1580/. Re: How to reclaim with only 1 drive (but only for primary pools!)
Reclaimation of a primary stg can be done with only 1 drive as described below. With an (offsite) copy pool it is impossible: for a reclaim of a copy pool, some objects from some primary pools have to be copied to a fresh copypool vol (as the reclaimed copypool vol is offsite). There is no way you let TSM load a primarypool vol, read some date, place it somewhere, unload the vol, and load the copypool vol. I you want to use copypools, i think you have to get an extra drive, Allshare Personnel BV Jochem van Hal mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] www.allshare.nl > -Original Message- > From: ADSM: Dist Stor Manager [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On > Behalf Of > Hans H. RV: Re: Client ver 3.7.2 - no SA software
The problem with speed in the admin web interface could be related to your proxy, if you have one. For instance, I collect data transfer statistics. Then you'll get a nice GUI. Regards Werner Nussbaumer -Original Message- From: GEOFFREY.L.GILL [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Donnerstag, 9. Re: Antw: TSM Server for AIX, newest version 3.1.2 ?
Basically what IBM is doing is to have a common hardware platform for there range of servers - AIX,AS/400,OS/390 (Ouch, it hurts me to call OS/390 a server ;-)). The new range will be known as the Z900 range - where you'll be able to run the same hardware platform under different OS's. For those of you guys/gals out there from the mainframe world it will be like different LPAR's on the same physical box - the only difference will be that it will be for unlike OS'ses. Do a search on IBM's web site and check out news/announcements. Regards Christo > I have heard this has been in the works for quite a while. Re: TCP IP connection failure
Hello, COuld you make a ping on the TSM server and verify its IP address and then, check the client settings preferences or the dsm.opt file to see if your communication data are OK. Please, also check on the server site if your client definition is still OK.
