Open the GUI-based backup/archive client. Under one of the menu choices
is "Setup Wizard". Open that and run through the existing configuration
for your client. There is a checkbox (that should be checked) that sends
entries to your system log. Uncheck it and save the configuration.

I'd be more specific, but I only encounter Windoze only on client sites;
I don't have it anywhere in the office.

With luck. Check the front of the 4.1 client manual: that combination
of levels is not supported. It's Spring, and the ice is thin...

Re: Strange Library behavior

2001-04-01 Thread Steve Harris

Geoff,

You may have a conflict between managing dbbackups with delete volhist and managing
them with DRM

DRM has a parameter controlling how long dbbackups are kept (use q drmstatus to see).
If you are still running delete volhist and the retention period is shorter than the
DRM retention period, then DRM will "forget" that it owns those dbbackups and they
will never be recalled.

Could this explain some of your trouble?

>>> "Gill, Geoffrey L." <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> 31/03/2001 2:41:07 >>>
I have a 3494 connected to my RS/6000. The 6000 is my TSM server on AIX
4.3.3, TSM 4.1.2.0. I have noticed some strange behavior as it relates to
the library and tape inventory.

1. I have been testing Autovault and noticed a few things. On a few
occasions tapes have come up to check in to the library, yet DRM does not
show them on the list. Even as some days/weeks have past, those tapes still
have not shown up in DRM Vault Retrieve. Those tapes have been on the shelf
in the vault.

2. I have seen tapes show up in DRM Vault Retrieve which are not on the
shelf in the vault. Yet when I run checkin they show up as scratch because
they were in the library. I don't understand how this happens.

2. I have seen tapes, like today, that are seen as FF00 when doing mtlib -l
/dev/lmcp0 -qI. Two of these tapes just happen to be in the offsite_pool,
and I'm assuming still in the library since they are not on the shelf. The
rest are not on the shelf either, and I'm assuming in the library. Now how
they got there is unknown to me unless they never came out in the
past...that would be another mystery.
U00459 FF00 00 10 00
U00442 FF00 00 10 00
U00265 FF00 00 10 00
U00285 FF00 00 10 00
U00288 FF00 00 10 00
U00067 FF00 00 10 00
U00077 FF00 00 10 00

'm sure I can check these in as scratch because I have seen this behavior
before. I just don't know why the library seems to lose track of some of
these tapes.
Can anyone explain this peculiar behavioror is it just me!

Windws NT Terminal Server full backup after time change

2001-04-01 Thread Kevin Corning-Hyman

I upgraded our Windows NT clients to TSM v3.7.2.19 last week in preparation for an
uneventful time change. Backups run after the time change this morning on Windows NT
servers were the expected incremental. Backups run on Windows NT Terminal Servers
(Metaframe) were done as full. This was not expected. Has anyone else experienced
this or are we just special? Thanks.
