Backup Policy

2001-04-07 Thread ABDULSALAM ABDULLA

I think I did ask this question once back, but didn't receive any feedback,
please let me know if you can help.

I want to write a backup policy to backup my filesystems for 7 versions. On
the 7th day I want that copy to be moved to the save box with retention of
28 days. The 8th day will over write the first day, and so on. But again
by the end of the forth week on 28th day, I want this copy to be kept in
save for one year. Also I need to keep one copy of any deleted file for the
period.
How can I do that? What will be the value of the following options? Please
let me know if any other options required setting.

Backup Retention (Grace Period)
Versions Data Exists
Versions Data Deleted
Retain Extra Versions
Retain Only Version

Appreciate your input.

Dwight - That's an old chestnut. This condition and the utilities
are described in the 3.1 server README.SRV file.
It has to do with errors in the early 3.1 releases.

Backup Policies - Kind of FAQs - THANKS

2001-04-07 Thread Mahesh Babbar

Thanks to all who have given their comments on this never ending
 story.

Overall, there seems to be no confusion over Version and how they are
 deleted.

If a file is put in the EXCLUDE list, it will become inactive in the
next backup, though it's still there on the client.

One query is still pending, and that is when we say INCREMENTAL
backup. Does it mean Cumulative / differential incremental. I believe
the whole file goes into backup even if it's just touched.

 Thanks & Regards

 MAhesh

Re: GUI on Solaris 8

2001-04-07 Thread Fredrik Lundholm

Hello,
I believe that you must run dsm under the C locale (starting with v 4)
So try this 'setenv LANG C; dsm'.
I dont know how to find out under what locale CDE runs apart from what
you specify when you log in using the cde'd version of xdm.

Yes, and no
we are backing up ingres journal (/srjnl/ingres) and checkpoints
(/ckp/srckp/ingres/ckp /ckp/download)
This is only way to backup ingres data.
Maybe there are different, better solutions, whitch i don't know
