Re: SSA disk configurations
I seem to remember that there was an override option to the command usually used to do the logical remove. I had to piece a filesystem back together that'd been through an environemntal cooling failure. The weird part wast that the fs was relatively intact through it all. No space had been used yet on the missing disk. People had been trying to tar up or backup the contents of the fs, in order to build it again. But most tools don't give a useful indication of which file(s) have problems. To find out which file had a hole in it, I used a for loop that cat'ed each file to /dev/null. There was only one file that was not complete, so it was a fairly easy fix. Fun stuff. Restoration of multiple directories through command line?
Hi, Can someone tell me what am I doing wrong? I want to restore a total of 3 directories. Would it be possible that I run it in one command? I have tried the following but I dont think it works 'cos TSM probably thinks i want to do a restore to an alternative directory. #> dsmc restore "/oracle/stage/" "/sapmnt/SA2/" "/oracle/SA2/sapreorg/" -subdir=yes -inactive -pitd=09/02/01 #> dsmc restore /oracle/stage/ /sapmnt/SA2/ /oracle/SA2/sapreorg/ -subdir=yes -inactive -pitd=09/02/01 Both commands do not work, what would be wrong with this command if I want to restore all 3 directories + subdirectories in a go? Would it also be possible to run the command in 'quiet' mode? I have tried doing it but it doesn't seem to recognise the quiet command. I need to do a test restore of my entire full filesystem backup on the 09/02/01 (want to leave out restoration of rootvg though), so I'm trying to restore all my data in the mount points all at a go Would appreciate your reply very much. Best Regards

SQL Restore Problem. Please HELP!!!
We are trying to restore a 17GB database by using the TDP agent for SQL version 1.1.2. During the restore process the TDP agent connets to the SQL server, then the TSM server, then onto the SQL server again after which we get the message "Waiting for SQL Server". Looking on the TSM server the client session times out after reaching it's timeout threshold. Looking on the SQL server the daabase and transaction log files grow. The restore however doesn't continue and gets stuck on "Waiting for SQL Server". We are in desperate need of any help and any help will be greatly appreciated.
Re: SQL Restore Problem. Please HELP!!!
We just ran into the same problem on a 60GB database that we were attempting to restore to another server. The problem ended up that the SQL server had "reconstruction" processing that it needed to perform as part of the restore and (in our case) was going to take from 4 to six hours. The problem was that our COMTIMEOUT server option was set for 300 seconds. We performed a "setopt commtimeout 21,000" (which is 6 hours in seconds) and it worked. I would just remember to set this option back to a lower number when you are completed. -Original Message- From: Jacques Butcher [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Wednesday, September 12, 2001 1:37 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: SQL Restore Problem. Use different SCRATCHCAT and PRIVATECAT categories when you define the library on each server. Then server A will refuse to checkin a tape belonging to server B. Re: Backing up large amounts of data on Windows NT
If this happens whenever he accesses the files QUICKLY in a row IHMO it does not matter would this access be through TSM, copy files (as he tested) or by ZIP, RAR. The only chance for success can be if file compression tool slows enough file access that first compressed files "timeout" and less than 190 GB were "recently" opened. Re: another reclamation pool question
Yes, you will have to define one per stgpool if you want your data to be segregated. But with reclamation pools with a devtype of FILE, the space is dynamically allocated and reduced so you don't need space like you would for a devtype of DISK. -- Joshua S. Help Upgrade from TSM3.7.3.8 to 4.2 for Solaris
Hi Has anyone performed an upgrade from TSM3.7.3.8 to 4.2 on a Solaris box. I have been looking at the install procedure and it treats the upgrade of any server release prior to version 4.1 as a migrate install. When it says about removing the previous version of the server software, it says to /usr/bin/pkgrm IBMadsm -S , yet we are running a version prior to 4.1 but have the TIVsmS software installed (not IBMadsm). It seems to me that in relation to location of files etc, there is little difference between 3.8 and 4.2. This says to me that all I should need to do is pkgrm the current TIVsmS software and them simply install the newer 4.2 TIVsmS server software. I am very new to all this and would be grateful for any direct advice in relation to this upgrade as I really don't want to mess things up (I would not be popular). Also, does any one know how this upgrade will affect my registered licences? Will I need to re-register the licences once the upgrade has completed. Again, any help you lovely people can give will be very much appreciated. Thanks ever so much Farren Minns Ps - I would also like to say that my heart goes out to all those people directly and indirectly affected by yesterday's tragic events. Saddened beyond belief.

SSA disk configurations
I know this isn't exactly a TSM Question but... Anyone have an idea where I can find documentation baout replaceing a failed drive in a SSA disk configuration. The documentation I've found tells you you need to logically remove the data adn drive first, unfortunately we've phjysically removed the drive and now the subsystem won't allow us to remove it logically. Thanks in advance Jim

Offsite backups
Hoi Can someone help me with this one? Is it possible to backup only the active files to the copypool in TSM version 4.2? When you do a backup to the copypool it puts all files (active and the number of versions) to the copypool. backup stgpool tape_stgpool tape_copypool This way TSM is organizing the tapes with drmedia. Thanks in advance.
