Re: Two devclasses with storagetek library L700
I don't if SHARED=YES is mandatory. The only issue is when you do checkin you should not have Tape mounted in drive. If yes it may take the slot of the tape mount for the tape that you are check in. You do not tell us your server platform, so I am not sure if this will help you, as my experience is on AIX: We did it with an STK9710 by defining 2 different TSM LIBRARY definitions. A LIBRARY to TSM is actually a logical construct, not a physical one. So we just defined 2 library names, both pointing to the same AIX /dev address. Then we defined our DLT drives to the first library name, and our 9840 drives to the second library name. Then you run TWO checkin commands, CHECKIN LIBV LIBRARY1 , followed by CHECKIN LIBV LIBRARY2 . Our library was defined as TYPE=ACS, so I don't know if you can do the same with a TYPE=SCSI library, or if you can do it with a Windows TSM server. But this maybe will help you get started. Disk volumes with UNC
Hi *SM*ers I was looking documentation and I can not find answer for this question: is it supported to use UNC names for disk volumes in TSM server 4.2 on Windows? Can backupsets written to file be dumped to tape
I have a limited amount of disk available for file device backupsets. My question is have any of you OS390 TSM users out there tried DFDSS dumping them to tape to free up the disks. If so are they still usable after being DFDSS restored to disk. Yes if I had more tape drives, I would generate them to tape in the first place. Re: cache hit percentage is low around 97%
Hi sreekumar, you was right in setting bufpool as high as possible. You do not mention plattform/version of you server. I was told by IBM that in latest NT TSM Server versions there are no limits for bufpoolsize exept for usable free system memory (free RAM). If TSM is the only application running on the machine you simply can test a Bufpoolsize usin whole memory minus OS ant ADSM code size. You surely restart TSM after having bufpoolsize changed, do you? With 3.1 and 3.7 I had very good results with HW upgrade: splitting the DB acros 3 small raid1 arrays and using a scsi controller with 128 on-board cache. To my surprise the caching on controller seemed to work better than the one of TSM itself, so using the max. bufpoolsize of DSM 3.1 which was, I believe, 128 MB, consequently reaching cache hit of about 97% only, was no problem at all (having DB as large as 9 GB ). regards Juraj SALAK Asamer Hufnagl -Original Message- From: Springer Friedrich ,VASL/FAI [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Friday, December 14, 2001 10:50 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: AW: cache hit percentage is low around 97% Hi, You should set SEFTUNEBUF yes in Your options, because after an expire run TSM tunes the buffer automatically to the rigth value. Rene I take it by the fact that you are in Germany, that maybe the W2k machine was installed for German language. Even though you installed TSM using english, I believe TSM will pick up the regional language setting of W2k for some things. TSM 4.2.1.15 Backup Failures on Win2k
I am using TSM 4.2.1.15 to backup a Win2k member server. TSM is reporting backup failures on the following four files: C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\ntuser.dat C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\ntuser.dat.LOG C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows\UsrClass.dat C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows\UsrClass.dat.LOG TSM reports The file is being used by another process for each. I confirmed that TSM did not backup the files under File Level. Are these files handled by the System Object backup? I cannot drill down into the System Object to confirm this. Although, a search of the drive did locate the *.dat files in C:\ADSM.SYS\..., but not the *.LOG's. If so, can I Exclude the files and still be able to perform a fully successful bare metal restore? Thanks! David Lilly DynCorp Ph: 301.903.5347

Have you tried via a workstation, using the Netware client ? I realize this adds unnecessary traffic, but if you can't wait for TSM V5, this should work ! Re: Move data in 4.2.1.8 AIX Server
If the web wizard on the NT client is run later, what config file is it looking at to know whether the web component is to be removed or needs to be upgraded as opposed to first time install? In other words, if the web wizard is run the first time it only prompts the user to install. Once installed, if it is run again it prompts to ether remove or upgrade. Re: Netware 6
Can you elaborate? What do you via a work station? Install NetWare 6 just on a PC and try that? The problem is that TSM _may_ be causing the NetWare 6 servers to ABEND. Although there are memory problems with 6 - NDPS printing has a memory leak - I suspect that between the memory leak and high memory requirements of TSM that that is causing the box to abend. Tivoli TSM 4.2.x PREScheduecmd
Hello All, I need to stop a NT service before my scheduled backup starts. Can I accomplish this by using the PRESCHEDULECMD option. If so let me know how to do this. Do I write a batch file and have the PRE command run that. There are other ways to do this but I would like to keep everything in TSM. Also when the backup is done I need the service to start back up. Thanks Chad
Re: Tivoli TSM 4.2.x PREScheduecmd
Yes, use the PRESCHEDULECMD and POSTSCHEDULECMD options pointing to cmd files. Eg. PRESCHEDULECMD: net stop schedule preschd.out POSTSCHEDULECMD: net start schedule postschd.out Routing the output of the stop/start to text files is for troubleshooting. -Original Message- From: Gent, Chad E. Re: MAXSESSIONS
-Joe- As far as I know, the maximum value is only limited by your available virtual memory or communication resources. By limiting the number of clients, your server performance can be improved, but the availability of ADSM services to the clients is reduced. Also, as soon as you can, it would be wise to go ahead upgrade your NT clients from 4.2.0.0 to the patch 4.2.1.15 or 4.2.1.18 available as of Thur. 12/13! The client code for 4.2.0.0. is full of issues/bugs. NamedPipe settings on W2K client
Does anyone know if any NamedPipe performance settings? We're running the latest 4.2.x TSM B/A client on a Win2K box running LAN-free to a Sun Microsystems Sunfire backup server (TSM 4.2.1.7). We've noticed that using NamedPipe between the TSM Storage Agent and the TSM backup server is almost twice as fast as traditional IP based but we're only able to get about 3 - 4MB/s throughput. Are there any settings pertaining to NamedPipe we can use? Re: Auto-Clean LTO tape drives
We are getting an LTO soon, but in general it's preferable to use the AUTO CLEAN feature of the Library itself and not use TSM for this purpose. (It's setup through the Operator Panel). In fact with some SCSI libraries you can't use TSM's auto clean.
