Product Release Install Advice: (Used to be WARNING about Tivoli 4.2.1.0)

2002-02-18 Thread Seay, Paul

First of all, BETAs apply to .0 releases before they are released GA or
patches that we never see as they are tested at selected client sites to
verify the fix test works in a customer environment. These are x.x.x.n
releases are patches on top of the base release, with all inclusive fixes up
to that point that have had limited testing. That means they have tested
the general area the problem was to fix, but not a GA release test.

The first thing I do before I put anything into production is check to see
what open problems there are that may affect me. By the time 4.2.1.9 came
out, months had passed since 4.2.1.0 GA. If I felt scared to put on
4.2.1.9, then I would have but on 4.2.1.8. 4.2.1.8 was a good patch level.
We had been running it for months before we upgraded to 4.2.1.10 just last
week. We are using all the special features. So far, the patches to
4.2.1.0 have not introduced any new problems, only fixed problems to my
knowledge. That is execellent, PE APARS are worse than broken code GA
releases because they could break something that is working and they are
very difficult for the customer to test. I did see them pull back a Windows
client update not because it broke something, but because it did not
completely fix the problem. They urged customers to go to the final fix to
the problem if they had installed the 4.2.1.16 fix.

I will admit we have a few problems that Tivoli has not fixed yet, but we
are the only customer experiencing them (or 1 of a few) and Tivoli is very
focused on serving us. That is why I ask myself if I am wasting their time
going through a dump especially if I am running a code level and there are
50 APARs that have been fixed since the code level went GA. You want good
support, when you call up and you are current and it is a problem never seen
before, you get attention.

Doug, nothing personal meant by this. Just trying to get the attention of
everyone that having Tivoli Support focusing time on problems already fixed
is not good for anyone. Andy should have said it, but he could not because
he is your vendor. "Give me a problem that I have not already fixed". The
response you got from Tivoli Support seemed really offbase about 4.2.1.9
being a "BETA". Poor choice of words on their part. The correct answer
should have been "Limited Testing Fix Patch 4.2.1.9 is known to fix many
problems. Please install this and see if the problem is reproducable, you
are experiencing many of the symptoms that have already been fixed".

This all said, prudence is still a good thing. Just because x.x.x.n just
hit the website does not mean put it on. If it fixes a problem you are
having, yes. We are staying very current because we are using a lot of SAN
stuff. There are still some minor bugs in it. Tivoli made great strides to
improve the ease with the latest releases to show you what is the latest
patches and maintenance available. I have seen them hold back for a while
before putting something in the latest directory, yet have it available in
the service site elsewhere.

I will give Tivoli one thing, at least they are trying to fix their bugs and
get a fix out timely. I cannot say that for any other vendors. Most of
them say, next release, or nope.

Now for the good news. Tivoli, based on what I know, is investing a
tremendous amount resources on GA release testing prior to release of a
product. Why?, to make all of us more comfortable and more problem free.
Code defects are extremely expensive for a company that gives away 1 year
free support. That in itself says something about their commitment to
quality. Other vendors just say you do not have a support contract. When
5.1 arrives I expect them to be much better, or at least I hope. They were
way behind the eight ball prior to 4.2.1 and probably rushed it to release.
But, much of what they were doing for SAN was not nailed down from a
hardware point of view at the time they were doing their 4.2.1 testing, so
the testing probably suffered a little.

Doug, welcome to a family of folks on this list server that will give you
the straight scoop and some advice, good or bad, that you didn't ask for.
Remember, they only have one goal: To make every TSM customer successful.
You will also find that bad advice is quickly and politely corrected by each
of us.

Come back soon. Ask about the problems with a patch, you will get at least
10 responses.

Thanks for bringing this issue to the forefront and getting such a healthy
discussion going on it. Maybe everyone can learn something.

2002-02-18 Thread Seay, Paul

Remember, TSM takes control of the drives with its driver. The Magstar
driver is overridden. The TSM driver is not compatible with NTUTIL to my
knowledge. There are also specific ways the drivers have to be installed.
Have you tried doing this with SCSI drives and NTUTIL and the TSM drivers?
I am guessing not. I am presuming that you have already installed the TSM
SAN agent and configured the drives. If not, then the Magstar driver is in
control.

With the EMULEX driver 4.4.52 it was possible to see the drives. However, it
wasn't possible to access the drives. With the EMULEX driver 4.4.53a it is
neither possible to see the drives nor to access them.

The TSM client was deinstalled. He could access the TSM server on the LAN

I am using this fibre card for both windows NT 4 and Windows 2000 ADV svr

picks up the LP8000 - you need to change this - use update driver and tell
it to use Windows update). You also require a different client to backup
directly to tape (LAN FREE) (see SAN storage agent guide), however if this
path is not found it will use the LAN path to get to the diskpools.

Not sure about the RS/6000, but if it is attached to the SAN with your

Re: Backup NT Server via SAN with Emulex LP8000

2002-02-18 Thread Seay, Paul

We tested EMULEX before it was supported on the Magstar in a SAN and were
unsuccessful. Eventually, IBM fixed the microcode in the 3590 drives and
the Magstar driver. I highly recommend that you run the highest level
drivers when doing SAN tape unless IBM SAN Central specifically says a
specific combination works best.

We dropped EMULEX LP8000s and went with QLOGIC QLA2200F on our NT servers
because we use ESS (Shark) and Qlogic was the only one supported on both.
But, that has problems as well that we are working through with IBM.
However, we are running very successfully on Windows 2000 so long as we do
not try to do ESS Microcode updates with Windows 2000 servers up. But, that
problem is going to be fixed shortly.

I made the comment because I know that IBM required specific driver levels
for it to work, though others at higher levels may also work. Good Luck.

2002-02-18 Thread Seay, Paul

I would never install a x.x.x.0 release in production unless Tivoli had
categorical proof that it was absolutely solid. Typically, I wait 3 months
after it is generally available and do some APAR searches to see where the
problems are. I typically wait until x.x.x.2 or .3 before I put in
production. Remember everyone is installing the stuff in a test area that
has many TB at stake and verifying the product works correctly before the
deploy to production. They are the ones generating the initial problems
that are fixed and they do a lot of testing.

Are you asking how to increase the width so that
the file space name doesn't wrap to multiple
lines?

While this example doesn't wrap, it does illustrate
a method you can use to adjust the output column
widths.

STANDARD WIDTH:

select filespace_name, node_name, capacity from filespaces

FILESPACE_NAME NODE_NAME CAPACITY
-- --
\\raibeck\c$ RAIBECK 44481.4

CUSTOM WIDTH (40 columns for FILESPACE_NAME):

select filespace_name as "FILESPACE NAME ",
   node_name, capacity from filespaces

FILESPACE NAME NODE_NAME CAPACITY
 --

\\raibeck\c$ RAIBECK 44481.4

Note: The "as" specification for FILESPACE_NAME is padded
with blanks to bring the entire column width to 40.

When running in batch mode, if you want the display to
appear in tabular format rather than list format, put
the select command in a macro, say, "select.mac". Then
invoke dsmadmc like this:

dsmadmc -id=adminid -pa=x -displaymode=table
macro select.mac

or like this this to redirect output to a file:

dsmadmc -id=adminid -pa=x -displaymode=table
macro select.mac > select.out 2>&1

Re: Power Distribution Unit Failure

2002-02-18 Thread Steve Harris

Hi Ed

I had a problem with our 3494 that might be related.
For reasons to do with AS400 connection, this library had a lot of manual
intervention. Thus it kept being put offline and online up to 10 times each day. The
problem that developed was that during the process of going online, the accessor moves
from the bottom left corner of the library to the top right. We have two sections
installed, and the power drain as the accessor moved on both axes at maximum speed was
enough to trip the power supply.

The CEs took ages to figure this out and replaced almost every accessor component.
Once they realized what was going on and replaced the offending power supply,
everything worked fine.

Re: How do you backup network drive w/o logging in?

2002-02-18 Thread John Monahan

You can try using the flag "/persistent:yes" on your NET USE command when
initially mapping a drive from your windows b/a client to the NAS device.
The mapped drive should still be available when you log out.

The only issue is that you will have to run your TSM Scheduler service
under an account other than system, one which has rights to access the NAS
device.

I am looking for suggestions. I have a NAS solution that needs to be

being logged in all the time...any suggestions are appreciated. The
only thing that I can think of is to run a pre and post script that maps

Object field in Archive schedule

2002-02-18 Thread brian welsh

Hello,

TSM Server 4.1.1.0 on AIX 4.3.3
TSM Client 4.1.1.0 on AIX 4.3.3

We want performing an 'archive' using schedules. A few clients have a lot of
filesystems, about 50 or more.

We already encountered the limitation of 20 objects in the object-field, so
we made 3 archive-schedules per system. It is a lot of work to define those
schedules and it will be much easier to select a volumegroup or the whole
system, so we are going to do a request for an enhancement.

In clientversion 4.2.x. you can use the -filelist option, but upgrading is
not possible for the moment.

Till then we are looking for a good, simple solution.

Is there somebody outthere who's doing this much easier then we do at the
moment?

Thanks,

Brian.

During the initial install on my Win2K server (4.1.4.5), a "Server1" dir
was created. Most of the server config files are now located there. In the
original "Server" directory is a file which contains the sample scripts
called scripts.smp.

Storage pools on disk array

2002-02-18 Thread Thomas Denier

We have a TSM 4.2.0.0 server running under OS/390. We are getting ready to
install a Hitachi Data Systems 9960 disk subsystem. We are planning to put
some disk storage pools, among other things, on the new subsystem. About 40
of the emulated 3390 model 3 volumes on the subsystem will be used this way.
All of them will be carved out of a RAID group consisting of four physical
disk drives with a capacity of 73 gigabytes each. There will be sixteen
gigabytes of cache memory between the physical disks and the mainframe. How
should I subdivide the available space into storage pools? For example,
should I make each pool out of datasets that are as large as possible and fit
on as few virtual disks as possible, or should I use smaller datasets and
stripe each pool over as many virtual disks as possible?

Re: How do you secure the passwd in a TSM admin command run a via batch script

2002-02-18 Thread Alex Paschal

If you like, you can use something like "expect" to script your dsmadmc
commands. For applications that block regular STDIN piping and redirecting,
like telnet or dsmadmc, "expect" does the magic tty swapping that's
necessary to feed the password into the password prompt so it won't show in
the ps. I don't know much more about it because it's a little higher
powered programming than I've done in years, but if the security is that
important to you, it might be worth your time. Here's the web site.

http://expect.nist.gov/

There's also a Perl version, but I don't know how good it's cross-platform
functionality is.

http://search.cpan.org/search?dist=Expect

Good luck.

Hello,
this would not solve all security problems. If a user does a "ps -elf"
command on a unix system he can see the whole command line including the
password.

Re: SELFTUNEBUFpoolsize

2002-02-18 Thread Rushforth, Tim

We've noticed this also - running on 4.2.0 on W2K. We've switched to
manually increasing bufpoolsize and turning off SELFTUNEBUFFPOOLSIZE.

>From a TSM 3.7 Redbook -
"The current values for memory usage limits by the BUFPOOLSIZE value are 10%
of the real memory for AIX, HP Unix, Sun Solaris, and Windows NT, and 50% of
the region size in OS/390. This does also mean that Tivoli Storage Manager
may not be able, in all cases, to optimally tune the BUFPOOLSIZE value,
because the server could not have enough real memory installed."

Can anyone confirm if the above is still true for 4.x?

Re: ODBC Driver for Windows

2002-02-18 Thread Andrew Raibeck

OK, thanks for the info. If you are running the 3.7.2 ODBC driver, then
that is definitely an issue.

The Office 2000 products were not even supported until 4.2. Even on an
"unofficial" basis, I didn't have any luck myself getting Access 2000 to
work with an ODBC driver below 4.2. If you were able to get it to work at
all, you were doing better than I.

Starting with 4.2, the ODBC driver is a separate package from the B-A
client. If you pulled the 4.2 client from the FTP site, then you should
find the ODBC driver out there as well (it'll have ODBC_DRIVER as part of
the file name, and is around 13 MB).

The 4.2 ODBC driver should work fine as long as you stick to accessing one
TSM server per Access database. The problem with tables from multiple TSM
servers should be fixed in 4.2.2 and up, probably around the April-May
timeframe.

This could be APAR IC31451, which is known to occur with the 4.2.0 and
4.2.1 ODBC driver. The problem occurs when you have tables from more
than

I am not aware of any problems such as you describe when the tables are

If that doesn't answer the question, then could you please provide

As far as being able to indicate whether there is a newer version of the

Is the latest class I have marked the one that is used?

ODBC Driver for Windows

2002-02-18 Thread Brown, Bud

I was wondering if anybody has had any luck using the ODBC driver and
Access 2000 to run read-only queries and run reports on the syscat
table. Innitially I have had success in setting this up but that only
lasts until I close the database I created. I have to recreate the
links every time. I get ODBC connection errors when trying to re-open
the database after it has been closed. Could there possibly be a newer
version of the driver somewhere? I haven't been able to find it.

Moving from 3570 to STK LTO 700

2002-02-18 Thread Kelli Jones

We are moving to a Storagetek L700 (LTO) from 3570...(TSM 4.1.5 running on AIX 4.3.3)
I have some questions on migrating the data. The current plan is to connect the L700
to our box leaving our magstar connected as well. We will change the 3570 tapepool to
read only. Then we will create a new pool for LTO and migrate data from our 3570
tapepool to the new LTO tapepool. My question concerns our offsite copypool. How do
I handle it the data within it? Depending on how long the migration takes for our
approx. 4 TB of data, I was thinking we could just do a backup of the LTO pool to
copypool and once we know we have everything offsite, destroy the 3570 tapes??? I may
be way off base so any suggestions would be helpful. I don't want to lose one little
bit (or byte) of data..

Thanks so much!

We do not knowingly release code with major bugs. Yes, you will often find
that the README files contain a list of "Known problems and limitations"
that documents problems we are aware of at the time the code is released.
However, those problems should be of relatively minor severity.

I'm sure that when the help desk told you there were known problems, they
meant that you were not reporting a new, previously unheard of problem.
But this doesn't mean that the code was released intentionally that way;
rather, the problems were discovered some time *after* the code was
released, but before you stumbled across it.

Hello, all. We have a problem in restoring the udb restore to an
aix-tsm-client node.
The backup is previously taken on a different aix-client. Both with the
same version 4.1.2.0
tsm-server version is 4.2.1.9. (for example from aix102 db-backup to
aix401 db-restore).

We tried the options of setting dsm/dsmi dir/config variables, and 'set
access a/b * * *'.
We tried the method of changing adsm-node name (password) on adsm-server
temporarily.
On both the methods, db2adutil list commands, (and nomal client restore
across nodes),
worked fine.

But udb-restores always failed across nodes (but works on the same node).

Some of the db2adutl and restore outputs are as shown below.

I appreciate if any body has a detailed steps or method/s for a successful
restore.

Good morning, Doug!

I understand your frustration and all patches that Tivoli develop to fix
knowns
bugs will have only minimal testing. It is something that we have grown
accustomed
to in the world of TSM. I have learned to never run just the BASE CODE of

We have been running TSM 4.2.1.9 for about 2-3 months now without any

George,

I was using the 4.2.1.0 NW client and the SMDR/TSA that came with SP3 for NW

How do you backup network drive w/o logging in?

2002-02-18 Thread Brown, Bud

I am looking for suggestions. I have a NAS solution that needs to be
backed up. I was hoping to specify a network drive on a particular
windows b/a client, until I realized that I had to be logged in all the
time to back it up. I want to be able to backup a NAS share without
being logged in all the time...any suggestions are appreciated. The
only thing that I can think of is to run a pre and post script that maps
a drive prior to backing up. We have 2 RS/6000's with AIX 4.3.3 running
Tivoli 4.1.4.1.

Re: lbtest

2002-02-18 Thread Richard Cowen

I got this from Joel Fuhrman of washington.edu. I have scripts that work,
so I know the document speaks accurately.

--

 lbtest

Caveat
==

This document describes how to use the lbtest tool shipped with
the ADSM server. This tool is shipped as a service aid for
diagnosing hardware problems for SCSI libraries used by ADSM.
This document describes an old version of the tool and is
slightly out of date. At this point in time lbtest and the
other service aids are not supported for customer use. (i.e. If
you find bugs in this document or lbtest, we are not obligated
to fix them).

--

Invoking lbtest

The tool can be invoked as a command from the command line or
from within a shell script or REXX EXEC using this syntax:

  lbtest <-f input-file> <-o output-file> <-d special-file> <-t>
<-p special-file>
  options:

-f input-file This specifies the input file for batch mode.
If a file is specified, lbtest will execute in
batch mode and read input from this file.
The default for this file is lbtest.in.

-o output-file Specifies the output file.
The default for this file is lbtest.out.

-d special-file Specifies the special file value to substitute
on the "open" statement in the input file.

-p special-file Specifies the special file value to substitute
on the "passthru" statement in the input file.

-t Specifies trace will be invoked

e.g. lbtest -d /dev/lb0 -o test.output -f lbtest.mt

note.If no parameters are specified, lbtest will operate in interactive
mode.

Interactive Mode

When lbtest is invoked with no -f, it defaults to running in
interactive, or manual, mode. This allows a developer to
interactively determine the kind of testing to be done. When in
interactive mode, lbtest provides a menu of functions that can
be performed that looks like this:

Main Menu:
==

  1: Manual test
  2: Batch test
  9: Exit lbtest

Enter selection: 1

After selecting option 1 from the main menu, a manual test menu
appears that allows individual device driver functions to be
tested:

variables settings
=
special file: /dev/lb0
return_error_when_fail 1 exit_on_unexpected_result 0

manual test menu:
=
  1: set device special file
  2: display symbols

Batch Mode

If a batch input file was specified with the "-f" option on
invocation, lbtest will run in batch mode, rather than
interactive. Batch input files can contain these kinds of
statements:

commands
comments
exit
if
passthru
pause
set
skip
symbols
system
type

Each type of statement is described next.

Comment

Any line beginning with "#", or any blank line, is a comment and will
be ignored.

command Statements

Device driver function is exercised by "command" entries in the
input file. Command statements must be on a single line of the
input file. The data is case sensitive, but leading or embedded
blanks are ignored.

command command-text

This statement is used to execute a library command and to test
the command completion status for an expected result.

The "command-text" is used to specify which tape operation to
perform. The possible values for this field are described next.

open

SYNTAX:

  open device-file

WARNING about Tivoli 4.2.1.0

2002-02-18 Thread James, Doug

We tested 4.2.1.0 for a month, and then applied it in production. After two
weeks in production, TSM died. After sending IBM lots of data dumps, the
IBM help desk admitted that there were KNOWN BUGS in 4.2.1.0. Our choices
were to backlevel to an older version of TSM, or move ahead to a BETA
version, 4.2.1.9, that was supposed to fix our problem. We have been
running this Beta for about two months, but it is scary to be on the
bleeding edge. I do not understand why Tivoli would put out code with major
known problems.

Retrieve only GUI?

2002-02-18 Thread Danielsson Lars

Hi.

Do anyone of you all know if there is a possibility to run the Windows NT/2000 TSM
client Web GUI in a "retrieve only mode" where you don't see neither the backup nor
the restore or archive buttons?

I would appreciate also if the options "Delete Archive Data", "Delete Filespaces", etc
was hidden for the user. These options are stopped on node level and I would prefer to
show only usable choices. Any possibilities to customise the visibility for these
options on the GUI?.

Nick,

This probably means that the userid that you are running
TDP for Domino under does not have "read" permission
to the directory that the password file is stored.
You can change the password directory by
placing a PASSWORDDIR option into your dsm.sys
file under the server stanza of your choice.
For example, in the dsm.sys file:

   passwordaccess generate
   passworddir

The value of directory_name must be a directory
where the user that will execute the domdsmc
command has write authority.

If the passworddir option is not specified,
then the password file may not be stored properly
due to insufficient permission.

This is covered in the TDP for Domino 1.1.2 User's Guide.

Thanks,

Del

EMULEX requires specific driver levels on NT, the latest ones. Otherwise,
it will not work.

Could you describe your layout abit:

ie:
- TSM Server connected to the SAN via Fibre and TCP/IP connection to LAN
- 3494 library connected directly to the SAN via Fibre (or connected via
SCSI to TSM Server)
- NT4 Server(s) connected to SAN via Fibre and TCP/IP connection to LAN

On the Win4 server can you see the SAN attached drives and access them? Can
the current (LAN path) client access the TSM server (manual backup from
desktop) and can the TSM GUI see all the SAN drives (mappings - should be
the same when viewing mappings through explorer)

I am using this fibre card for both windows NT 4 and Windows 2000 ADV svr
(connected to a SAN). There are different drivers for Win2000 (but win2000
picks up the LP8000 - you need to change this - use update driver and tell
it to use Windows update). You also require a different client to backup
directly to tape (LAN FREE) (see SAN storage agent guide), however if this
path is not found it will use the LAN path to get to the diskpools.

Not sure about the RS/6000, but if it is attached to the SAN with your
library then why not?!

- 3494 library connected directly to the SAN via Fibre (or connected via
SCSI to TSM Server)
- NT4 Server(s) connected to SAN via Fibre and TCP/IP connection to LAN

On the Win4 server can you see the SAN attached drives and access them?
Can the current (LAN path) client access the TSM server (manual backup from
desktop) and can the TSM GUI see all the SAN drives (mappings - should be
the same when viewing mappings through explorer)

I am using this fibre card for both windows NT 4 and Windows 2000 ADV svr
(connected to a SAN). There are different drivers for Win2000 (but win2000
picks up the LP8000 - you need to change this - use update driver and tell
it to use Windows update). You also require a different client to backup
directly to tape (LAN FREE) (see SAN storage agent guide), however if this
path is not found it will use the LAN path to get to the diskpools.

Not sure about the RS/6000, but if it is attached to the SAN with your
library then why not?!

Hi,

We have problems to backup a NT Server via SAN with an Emulex LP8000
adapter to a 3494 library with 3590E1A tape drives. Has anyone tried
this? It is possible to access disks from the NT server via SAN and it
is possible to access the 3590E1A drives via an RS/6000.

Re: Power Distribution Unit Failure

2002-02-18 Thread Seay, Paul

You have to call IBM to fix it. Are you absolutely sure that power is
coming to that frame. As long as you have not exceeded the power of the
adjacent frame you should be ok until you can get it fixed, but I would ask
IBM. There are actually 2 power distribution units in the cabinet, as least
in the USA. Be careful.

Subject: Power Distribution Unit Failure

Hi all,

I am having a problem with 3494 library power distribution unit. Last week
we had an UPS problem inside data center room so we have to shutdown all of
equipment because we don't have UPS backup. I completely shut off the
library including power off the red switch at the front. And this morning,
after the UPS has been fixed and back to alive again, I turned on all of
machine in data center (a set of RS/6000 and some PCs) including the ATL
3494 but it failed to power up the next frame which consists three 3590 tape
drives. The power supply unit in frame 2 cannot be activated. Because
currently we still have 2 frame of 3494, I powered up the 3 3590 tape drives
by plugged-in its power cable to the host frame directly which still can be
reached from the next frame. My question are : 1. How to fix this power
distribution problem? 2. Is it O.K running the library in above
   condition?
Any help will be appreciated. Thanks anyway.

Re: Novell restore question

2002-02-18 Thread Loon, E.J. van - SPLXM

Hi Robert!
TSM supports multi-session backup. Multi-session restore is not yet
supported. I heard that it will be implemented in TSM 5.1, so until that
time, you will have to start 3 separate dsmc restore processes, like Bill
suggested.

Robert,

Start up three instances of dsmc restore - different file system for each
restore.

Hi to all

I made a test in my Netware Client 4.2.1.0 I backup a volume with the
option resourceutilization 6 in my dsm.opt directly to tape.

The process backup the volume to three tapes in parallel. My question is
when I try to restore the volume, the process took each tape one after one.
Did someone known how I can restore 3 tapes in parallel ??.

Thanks in advance .

Antwort: Netware 5.1/ TSM client 4.1 restore problem - disk space

2002-02-18 Thread Jan Moewe

David,

when you backup a file from a novell file server all file information,
including "file_owner", will be saved.
At restore time all these information will be written to disk. If the
"file_owner" exsist and the volume space is limited
by "user space restrictions" the restore may fail.
If ihe "file_owner" doesn´t exsist the "file_owner" will be replaced with
the name you assigned for TSM to access the volumes.
Set the "user space restrictions" to unlimited for the specific user and
retry to restore.
Hope that helps

Greetings
Jan Möwe

We have TSM server 3.7.4.0 on AIX 4.3.3. Have some Netware clients
on Netware 5.1 SP3 and TSM client 4.1.0.0. Netware VOL1 is NSS volume
and set for Long File Names. Have been running fine for about a year in
this
config. Have restored users files many times this last year.

Now have problem trying to do some restores. When tried to restore a users
many files in "...NT 4.0 workstation Profile.../ folders and subdirs,
several things
happened. 134 files restored and 500 failed. We tried this sevreal times
and
restored to another node to see what happened. You get Tivoli message
ANS 4024E "... write failed.." on certain files. also a TSA message about
can't write to file (didn't get message copied). We found that on the
Netware
System Console a message pops up the first time we try on a node.

"Directory quotas enabled on volume "VOL1"."

Our Netware Admin says the only way he knows that can happen is to type
a command on the console to enable it.

We tried restoring to the SYS: volume on 2 nodes and then when we get to
certain files(the ones that failed on VOL1:) it says "Out of disk
space..." and
gives you a prompt to Abort/Retry/Skip. However we are not out of disk
space. The files in general that fail are *.lnk, *.bmp and *.ini, but not
sure
if that is a pattern or not. It will fail on same file each time.

In case it was some problem with that users files, tried another users
"NT Profile" directories and got similar results.
As I said we have restored many times in last year, but I don';t think
much restore done from "NT profile directory". Have done some
search on Tivoli Web site for this problem and didn't find.

Does anyone have an idea what our problem(s) are?

Thanks,
