Subject:Linux 4.2 Client GUI Problems

Hello,

I have installed the client on red hat 7.1, and the command line works
fine. I have entered a Virtualmount point in dsm.sys and domain=all-local
in the dsm.opt and all is good.

When i run dsm.exe i cannot browse to any directories for backup, they
will not let me expand. the restore tab is fine i can view and restore any
data i have backed up through the command line. Also the preferences in
the GUI do not relate to what is set in dsm.opt and dsm.sys, they seem to
be a bit random each time i start dsm.exe.

Anyone any ideas???

subfile question

2002-05-04 Thread Burak Demircan

 Hi,

I am using subfile on my windows nt clients but I am confused with
include.subfile option.

Isn't the following options enough for subfile or should I explicitly define
every path to subfile?

subfileb yes

subfilecachep d:\cache     (of course i exclude this path from backup)

subfilecaches 1024

Now, should I add such definitions even though I put those paths to my include
list?

subfile.include c:\...\* NTCLASS

regards,

burak

Re: compress setup question

2002-05-04 Thread Zlatko Krastev

1. You may find that with compression node perform worse - it may have no
enough processor power and backup may take longer (or may not). System
dependant, i.e. if the bottleneck is network compression may help. If
processors are not enough powerful - backup with compression may take
longer.
2. I disagree with Gerald. You can see ANS1311E Server out of data storage space
when file does not compress (i.e. grows when compressed) and
compressalways yes is set. OTOH if compressalways is set to no in such
cases you will experience retries and performance will go down.
3. There is no real problems related to server. Only thing to have in mind
is data is precompressed so tape drive cannot compress it further. You
cannot expect DLT 8000 to hold more than 40 GB for example (80 GB is a
marketing statement assuming 2:1 compression on drive)

Subject:Re: compress setup question

Adsm 3.1.2? ouch.. that's old and not even supported anymore..

Anyways I started with 3.7 so other then that descrepency...

1. There shouldn't be a problem although you should be aware that it will
increase the load on all your servers as they'll now have to also compress
the files when doing backups. I've seen this become an issue on servers
that
already experience a significant load.
2. The only time I've seen a no space on server type error in regards to
compression is when you have caching enabled on your disk pools. So
caching
+ compression would cause problems. But each without the other worked
great.

3. again the only problem is that all clients now will experience an
increased load due to having to compress the data. For most this isn't an
issue but some environments may have a client or two that under normal
operations experience quite a load already.

Subject: compress setup question

Dear adsmer,

we have setup our adsm server version 3.1.2 for all the client to compress
depend no client.
Compression: Client's Choice

Our client do not want the choice and they want me to setup compress at
server end.

Before I do it, I would like to get advice about:
1. For WinNT servers, the force compress will cause problem at time of
backup/restory?
2. The reason they do not like to make decision about compress is that
some
machine is ok to compress;
some will get error as no space on server. Can it be avoided by setup
compress on server?
3. What is the petiential problem related adsm server setup force
compress.

Regards

Julie

2002-05-04 Thread Mattice, David

The output of a q ev * * f=d includes a completed date
and time however the events table does not contain a
column with this date and time.

I am trying to use SQL to extract this information, where
is this date time stored?

Re: import node problems

2002-05-04 Thread Zlatko Krastev

You have to create mgmt classes. If their copy group points to another
(existing) stgpool the imported data will go to that pool. But the classes
must exist.

Subject:import node problems

I'm trying to import a node to 4.1.2.0 server on Solaris 2.6 -
It's an archive only export of a node on another system.

The import fails, and terminates the session of the admin trying to
import.

I have tracked this tidbit down:

One of the management classes in the domain where the node was exported
referenced a destination pool named ARCHIVEPOOL.

That pool no longer exists on the source server, nor on the target server.

Provided that is the cause of the failure, is there any way to import the
node without haveing to create the pool and management classes, etc first?

Restore from Sever console

2002-05-04 Thread Jin Bae Chi

Hi, all
One of client node had a Windows registry problem and can't reboot
itself. We need to reinstall Windows. Is possible to see what files has
been backed up from that particular node from server console or admin
web interface? I don't have access to it at all. Any help will be
appreciated. Thanks.

Re: error ANR0104E

2002-05-04 Thread Zlatko Krastev

I see no answer to your post so will try to explain. I've found it in my
TSM Messages manual with following explanation:
ANR0104E Source file(line number): Error error code deleting row from
table table name.

Explanation: An internal error has occurred in an attempt to remove data
from a server database table. This message always accompanies another
error message and provides more detail about that error.
System Action: The activity that generated this error fails.
User Response: Contact your service representative.

This is something to be reported through support to the developers.
