There is no provision for adding tables to the (proprietary) TSM
database.

Where TSM scheduling is insufficient (even with the TSM 5.3
enhancements), you should instead use client-based scheduling
mechanisms (cron, etc.) to fulfill specific needs.

Hello everyone,

I am receiving the following error messages when my NDMP backups run.
The TSM server is AIX 5.2.7.1 and the library is an SL8500 with LTO2
drives.
The library is defined as an ACSLS library on TSM and these were scratch
tapes. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to fix this issue or
what might be wrong? Thanks!

Hi Adrian,

you could create a master script which runs daily at 00:00 and
checks for holidays, and then inactivates schedules. A sql
statement like this can find any particular date -

select 'HOLIDAY' from status where year(current_date) = 2006 and
month(current_date) = 9 and day(current_date) = 26

Unnamed[1]

Hope this helps,

Hi all,

I would like to use a calendar in TSM to determine when to schedule/not
to
schedule scripts/schedules based on a calendar. The use of TSM's
dayofweek,
Month etc does not go deep enough,
and there are certain things I would like to schedule based on a
calendar
specific to my organisation i.e public holidays etc.

Can one easily add tables to the TSM database or should this be avoided.
Has anyone tried someting simliar. I am using 5.3 on AIX 5.3 (p500 LPAR)

Thanks in advance

The file system is an Enhanced JFS2 file system. It is 1.15TB. It is on
a EMC SAN, and mounted as /backup on the TSM LPAR. It consists of a
number of LUNS on the EMC SAN. It contains all of our DISKPOOLS. My logs
are now fine as I allocated more log space using dsmfmt and the TSM
Server could restart. My Logs andTSM DB's are on seperate filesystem
i.e /usr After rebooting the LPAR, AIX wont mount the filesystem because
of a superblock error. We have determined that an FSCK is running, and
apparently this can take days on a large file system.
I see now that we should have a large Raw Logical Volume to overcome
these contraints.

To keep Tivoli running we have had to exclude this FS (/backup/) from
mounting, but are now running without the DISKPOOL. Hence my question

a EMC SAN, and mounted as /backup on the TSM LPAR.

Hello,

if you installed the ultrium device driver correctly, then

you should be able to see the medium changer and the

drives in device manager.

Right-click on "My Computer" and select Manage

and then select "Device Manager".

Expand the "Medium Changers" section. There should

be an "IBM 3584 Tape Library" entry. Right click on it

and select "properties". Go the "driver" tab. The Driver Provider

should be "IBM Corporation" and Driver Version should be 6.1.3.8.

Expand the "Tape Drives" section. There should

be eight (8) entries of "IBM ULT3580-TDx ..." entries. Right click on it

and select "properties". Go the "driver" tab. The Driver Provider

should be "IBM Corporation" and Driver Version should be 6.1.3.8.

If you cannot see the medium changer or drives in Device Manager,

or the driver tab is not showing the right information, then the ulirum

driver

is not installed correctly or the library/drives are not connected

properly.

You may want to refer to the following article on our support pages

you need to install the ultrium device driver. From your post,

it does not appear this was done. You can download the latest

You are quite correct Richard. Thanks
We are considreing the option of trashing the filesystem where the
disk?.dsm files for the DISKPOOL reside, and restoring it from the daily
offsite backup done of the diskpool.
It may also be worthwhile creating it as a RLV before restoring.
Have you any ideas/experience/cautions in doing this. I dont want to be
gung-ho in our approach here.

If your TSM server came up, it should see all the DISKPOOL volumes
missing, and so all incoming data should then go to the next level of
the storage pool hierarchy, assuming that's in writable condition and
has space. You might formally perform an Update Stgpool to mark it
Unavailable until such time as its original volumes are returned to
service, or (RLV) substitutes might be put into place. The more
awkward situation is outgoing data, which is to say that any data
which arrived in the backup disk pool but which is not represented in
the overflow area is unavailable for restorals - something which
needs to be publicized to the affected client community before they
attempt to restore data and find some or all of it missing.

Re: Adding Tables to TSM Database

2006-09-26 Thread Richard Sims

There is no provision for adding tables to the (proprietary) TSM
database.

Where TSM scheduling is insufficient (even with the TSM 5.3
enhancements), you should instead use client-based scheduling
mechanisms (cron, etc.) to fulfill specific needs.

hi adrian,

if no space within of your storage-pools is available, the data will be
send to the according "Next Storagepool".
if this is a sequential tape-pool and their are not enough tape-drives
available, you will see a lot of mount-requests
by your clients during their backup/archive-operation.

the OVFLOcation is only used if you checkout cartridges in case of to less
slots in your library, and you need to checkin
scratch-tapes.

- snip -

OVFLOcation
Specifies the overflow location for the storage pool. The server
assigns this location name to a volume that is ejected from the
library
by the command. This parameter is optional. The location name can be
a
maximum length of 255 characters. Enclose the location name in
quotation marks if the location name contains any blank characters.
 Note:
This parameter is not available for storage pools that use the
  following data formats:
 + NETAPPDUMP
 + CELERRADUMP
 + NDMPDUMP

- snap -

you can define an additional primary storage-pool based on disk-volumes
defined on another filesystem
and define this storage-pool as the next-storagepool of your defect-pool.

FSCK problem on TSM

Hi

Yesterday my TSM server (p500 LPAR AIX 5.3) had the TSM Logs run out of
space. In hind sight, the Server was bounced and I now have fsck running
forever almost as if in a loop. At present it would take days as the
filesystem concerned is 1.150TB.

Apparently we need to patch the OS as the FSCK gets into a loop, and has
to
complete the checks of the superblocksbefore it can be mounted. This
filesystem contains my DISKPOOLS.

My questions are/

1. Will any clients that normally go to DISPOOL now automatically go to
overflow until the filesystem comes backup.
2. what is the recommended max filesystem size to prevent this long FSCK.
3. Is there any other way to resolve this long wait for the check to
complete.

Adding Tables to TSM Database

2006-09-26 Thread Adrian Compton
Hi all,

I would like to use a calendar in TSM to determine when to schedule/not to
schedule scripts/schedules based on a calendar. The use of TSM's dayofweek,
Month etc does not go deep enough,
and there are certain things I would like to schedule based on a calendar
specific to my organisation i.e public holidays etc.

Can one easily add tables to the TSM database or should this be avoided.
Has anyone tried someting simliar. I am using 5.3 on AIX 5.3 (p500 LPAR)

Thanks in advance
Adrian Compton

Re: Help, Scratch tapes not mounting properly!!!!

2006-09-26 Thread Joni Moyer

Hi Karel,

I did the following command to checkin
a bulk amount of tapes:

09/25/06 10:23:20     ANR2017I Administrator
LIDZR8V issued command: LABEL

  libvol naslib search=yes checkin=scratch volrange=n01230

  ,n01339 overwrite=yes  (SESSION: 11019)

Some of the tapes in question
are in this range, but I did have 2 tapes mount correctly and work: N01235
& N01236.  That's why I'm confused and not understanding what
is wrong?  Any ideas?  Thanks again!

Hi,

Google ANR8806E. Seems to be unlabeled tapes. Label libv should solve
it.

Karel

Subject: Help, Scratch tapes not mounting properly

Hello everyone,

I am receiving the following error messages when my NDMP backups run.
The TSM server is AIX 5.2.7.1 and the library is an SL8500 with LTO2
drives.
The library is defined as an ACSLS library on TSM and these were scratch
tapes.  Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to fix this issue
or
what might be wrong?  Thanks!
