Maximum limit of a filename
Hi all, Has anyone any ideas what the maximum limit of characters is per filename that TSM BA Client 5.5.x and 6.1.x can backup in Linux (x86)? I think I heard a number of 1024 characters but that is not enough in my case. :( Best Regards Christian Svensson Cell: +46-70-325 1577 E-mail: christian.svens...@cristie.se Skype: cristie.christian.svensson
Re: Maximum limit of a filename
Hi Christian, Read IBM Tivoli Storage Manager V6.1 Linux Backup-Archive Client Known Problems and Limitations Path names longer than 1024 bytes Although Linux system supports files and directories with path plus file name length up to 4096 bytes, the TSM Client currently limits the length of filename and pathname: maximum filename to 256 and maximum pathname to 1023 bytes correspondingly, and an error message is displayed on the console when this length exceeds that limit. This will be fixed in a future release. Note that one byte isnt one characters with unicode... //Henrik -Original Message- From: ADSM: Dist Stor Manager [mailto:ads...@vm.marist.edu] On Behalf Of Christian Svensson Sent: den 17 juli 2009 11:42 To: ADSM-L@VM.MARIST.EDU Subject: [ADSM-L] Maximum limit of a filename Hi all, Has anyone any ideas what the maximum limit of characters is per filename that TSM BA Client 5.5.x and 6.1.x can backup in Linux (x86)? Re: NAS restore not showing inactive
We logon with a system account Yes We also use the toc=y option. We can see the other backups if we choose point in time. But that makes it difficult to locate a file that was deleted at on unknown time. Things to check: - Make sure you are logging into the webclient with an TSM account that has access to the data. I login with my system-level administrator account just to be sure. - do you see the backups when you do a q nasbackup ? - Verify you have a TOC for the backup that you want (output from the q nasbackup) If you don't have a toc, it might be easiest to just restore node from the admin command line. When we started using this, sometimes the TOC portion failed and we never were notified. We now use toc=y in our backup node commands to make absolutely sure we get one. Vince, You can make use of dsmadmc within the c:\program files\tivoli\tsm\baclient directory in windows or /usr/tivoli/tsm/client/ba/bin directory in AIX to run administrative commands from the client. The admin gui is the ISC/Admin Center. Many of us preferred the CLI using dsmadmc There are other commercial products available to manage TSM. -Original Message- From: ADSM: Dist Stor Manager [mailto:ads...@vm.marist.edu] On Behalf Of Tchuise, Bertaut Sent: Friday, July 17, 2009 10:32 AM To: ADSM-L@VM.MARIST.EDU Subject: Re: TSM gui Vince, You can make use of dsmadmc within the c:\program files\tivoli\tsm\baclient directory in windows or /usr/tivoli/tsm/client/ba/bin directory in AIX to run administrative commands from the client. Hey Markus, Thanks. That's what I had been trying, unsuccessfully, until this morning. Then I remembered to add replace=yes on the export command. Re: TSM gui
The TSM server comes with its own admin/control programs you install separately. Other than that, you would need to buy a product. Personally, I use TSMManager (http://www.tsmmanager.com). You can download a trial. Long ago there used to be the web administrator but that was dropped in favor of the ISC and now the new software.
