Solaris TSM Server and ZFS for raw partitions

2009-09-15 Thread David McClelland
Guys,

I'm scratching around trying to find out if TSM/ZFS play ball when it comes
to raw volumes for DB and Log volumes. The published IBM recommendation for
Solaris DB, Log and Stgpool volumes is still to use raw partitions for 5.5,
but I'm not seeing anything specific in the way of support for this on ZFS
being stated yet.

I do see from IBM.com that a customer has been having problems trying this
with an earlier release of TSM, but also that TSM fixpack 5.5.3 should fix
it (although I don't see anything in the APARs fixed list that it has).

http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=1019

&context=SSSQWC&context=SSGSG7&q1=ZFS&uid=swg1IC59683&loc=en_US&cs=utf-8&lan
g=en

Is anyone else running with Solaris ZFS raw partitions? Or, does anyone have
an alternative view as to whether it's even worth using raw partitions on
ZFS filesystems for DB/Log?

TSM Security alerts - is there a list somewhere

finding a list on the IBM support web page.

Is there a list of TSM security vulnerabilities anywhere?

We've got a case open with support, but thought to ask here also.

Hi, Mehdi
Parametr Encryptkey has 3 options.
By default it is Encryptkey=save - TSM save encription key in TSM password
file.
If you whant to test encription, you can delete password file or set
Encryptkey=prompt and try to restore.
Also you can use Encryptkey=generate, but it is not your situation

Trying to uninstall Tivoli client directory on C drive without affecting the D drive tivoli installation

2009-09-15 Thread Timothy Hughes

Hello,

A Windows Client D drive was recently lost and a restore was done by
installing the Tivoli Client on the C:/ and restoring it. Now I am
trying to uninstall from the C:/ but unable to, Is there a way to
Completely uninstall the Tivoli Directory from the C:/ drive without
affecting the D:/ drive?

When I try to delete the Tivoli folder I get the following

"Tivoli is being used by another person or program close any programs
that might be using the file and try again"

I'm not sure if its the D drive installation that's causing this or what.

Thanks in Advance!

rarely, tapes become logically unusable?

2009-09-15 Thread Allen S. Rout
Hi, there.

I have a small collection of tapes which appear to have become
uncorrectably unusable. They were part of a server which has been
decomissioned; now

tsm: CTRL>UPDATE LIBVOLUME 3592LIB T00015 status=private owner=GLMAIL
ANR9787E The owner name specified is not defined to this server.
ANS8001I Return code 11.

tsm: CTRL>UPDATE LIBVOLUME 3592LIB T00015 status=private owner=blargh
ANR8969E The owner of volume T00015 can not be updated to owner BLARGH.
ANS8001I Return code 27.

So, somewhere in its black little heart, TSM remembers what server
that tape went with, depite the fact that the server has been off
since 2005. On the one hand this is good: it prevents me from
accidentally overwriting tapes. On the other hand, it's now
preventing me from deliberately overwriting tapes.

What do I do? Ideally, I'd like to express to the server something
like 'No really, call that blank again, I'd like to reuse it'.
Relabel it, force=yes, checkin=scratch?

Any ideas?

You need to delete the tape from the Volume history.

Use this command carefully.
del volh todate=today tot=now type=remote volume=t00015 force=y

Raise your hand if you use volsers starting with "T".

Are you using a Library Manager?

If so, you need to remove the volume history for that volume by typing
this command on the library manager instance:

del volhistory todate=today T00015 force=yes

That should get rid of all associated volume history transactions.

Hah.

I didn't even consider mucking around with the volhist because I'm running

del volhist type=all tod='today-10'.

on a regular basis, and these tapes were assigned ... well, more than
10 days ago. :)

So I "knew" that, other than some possibly currently relevant database
backups, everything older was gone.
