Well, you could restore it... :-)

But seriously - when you encounter any situation as bizarre as this, look into
the cause. Something VERY wrong is going on there. Do not proceed without
finding out what caused it, or how much other damage it did. Once that is
straightened out, you'll obviously have to reinstall the client.

Versions of TDP SQL and TSM BA running on one server

2010-02-17 Thread Alexander Födisch

Hi,

I would like to install TSM BA and TSM DP for SQL on the same server (Windows

Which version of BA do I need when installing DP 5.5.3.0?

We have to backup MS SQL Express with TDB. Any experiences? Does it work?

Best,

Known causes of the ANS1302E messages are compiled in ADSM QuickFacts.

You are using -FROMNode. You should probably also have -FROMUser.
And, of course, all this presumes that the owner of the files on that TSM node
has performed a SET Access to allow you to perform the given action. If not,
then you are likely using the wrong procedure: see Restore or retrieve files
to another workstation in the client manual.

 Hi,

I would like to install TSM BA and TSM DP for SQL on the same server

Which version of BA do I need when installing DP 5.5.3.0?

We have to backup MS SQL Express with TDB. Any experiences? Does it
work?

2. have tdp for exchange or sql as node xyz on the same machine with a

If possible both cad managed.

If I understand things correctly, this is not possible. Am I correct, if not,

TDP for exchange does not have its own scheduler. You have the BA
client scheduler start a command to backup exchange. If you want to the
BA scheduler does not have to wait for exchange to finish backup.

The same goes for TDP for Oracle. There is no included scheduler. Our
DBA setup a crontab to start the backups.

Not sure about TDP for SQL, probably the same.

Hi Gary,

Yes, it is possible to do this. You need to define a secondary CAD to
handle the TDP scheduled operations, and use a separate node name from the
backup-archive client. Note: in general, it is best practice to use unique
node names for different TSM applications running on the same machine,
i.e., do not configure TDP for SQL to use the same node name as the regular
backup-archive client.

schedulers:

Just to clarify:

You need to define a secondary CAD to
 handle the TDP scheduled operations

What I mean is that you need to define another CAD for each TDP (or other
TSM application) that you run on the system... for example, if you use the
backup-archive client, TDP for Exchange, and some other API application,
then you should have a separate node name for each, and a separate CAD to
manage each application's scheduling.

Multiple TSM servers with EMC Centera

2010-02-17 Thread Wanda Prather
Customer has an e-mail archiving application that uses TSM archiving to an
EMC Centera on the back end.
They want to split the TSM server into 2 servers to spread the load.

I've searched the TSM site and found doc on having 1 TSM server use multiple
Centeras,
but nothing on having 2 TSM servers use 1 Centera.

Seems to me that would require a way to logically split the Centera.
Anybody done that, or know what is required? Can you point me to some
documentation?

Thanks!

I do not think you are right. We are controlling TDP backups (Oracle, MS SQL,
Exchange) having single CAD and dedicated TSM Scheduler for node itself and TDP
node. Schedulers are running permanently in prompted mode and TSM Server is
able to start backups at any scheduled time.
I f you want to run schedulers under CAD, just create two CAD instances with
different dsm.opt by dsmcutil or by TSM GUI -- Setup Wizard.

2010-02-17 Thread Gee, Norman
If I only install the Exchange TDP, which is legal, I would not have a
CAD or scheduler to define or install. When we first started with TSM,
the Exchange admin only install the Exchange TDP and we used the Windows
scheduler to start the backups. We only backup Exchange at that time.

CAD is only provided by the BA client and not included with the Exchange
TDP.

We are now controlling the Exchange TDP with the BA scheduler as a
command script.

SV: TSM 6.2

2010-02-17 Thread Christian Svensson
Hi,
What we have done is develop a small tool that is not larger then a couple of
KB.
We do a TSM Schedule restore of that tool on all our machines. Windows, Linux,
SUN and AIX.
Execute this small program (similar to how we execute a TDP). That tool will
pull out all information about your CPUs and Cores and if you are running
physical or VMware/XEN or any other VM.
Send that information though TSM API and we can now write a select script on
our TSM Servers to pull out all Node/CPU/Cores/Hardware information to a nice
spreadsheet.
This operation takes us approx 8 hours to do. Doesn't matter the size of the
company and how many servers you have.

I will have our tool with me to Pulse to show some other TSM Users during
Pulse.
Please catch me up or drop me an personal email if you want a demo after Pulse
via WebEX or GoToMeeting.

You could not use TDP without TSM Client, because it is sending data to TSM
Client.

I do not think you are right. We are controlling TDP backups (Oracle, MS
SQL, Exchange) having single CAD and dedicated TSM Scheduler for node
itself and TDP node. Schedulers are running permanently in prompted mode
and TSM Server is able to start backups at any scheduled time.
I f you want to run schedulers under CAD, just create two CAD instances
with different dsm.opt by dsmcutil or by TSM GUI -- Setup Wizard.

We are running dedicated schedulers for nodes abc and xyz, but it is
possible to start dedicated CADs for each node as well to manage
schedulers.

Subject: [ADSM-L] Question on multiple schedules and multiple nodes on
same box

I am trying to figure out how to do the following:
1. have the standard ba client installed on a machine as node abc with
scheduled backup nightly.

2. have tdp for exchange or sql as node xyz on the same machine with a
scheduled nightly backup.

If possible both cad managed.

If I understand things correctly, this is not possible. Am I correct, if
not, how to accomplish this.

I feel like manuals are swirling around in my head.
Thanks for any help.
