Expanding ProtecTIER Library

2013-08-27 Thread Steven Langdale
Guys.

I'm about to expand an existing virtual library.

The lib manager is running 5.5.5.2

I'm assuming I'll just need to restart the lib manager and define the extra
drives paths (also adding slots). Anyone done this and had to do any
more to get it working i.e. delete and reconfig the whole library?

Thanks

Steven

If your expanding the library dimensions (drives and slots) you'll want to do

1) An audit lib once you bring that lib mngr back up of course making sure
there's no libr activity. (I like to leave the lib mngr down during the
process.

2) Def drives and paths

That should do it - the audit lib lets TSM know about the new Element #'s
which are slots and drives.

I've always had to restart the instance in order to detect new elements.
(deleting and redefining everything also works)
I was never able to detect new slots with just an audit.

On AIX, I've had to reboot the server to get AIX to recognize the new stuff in
the virtual library.

Hi,

Can you pos tyour dsm.opt and tdpsql.cfg?

There is a lot of tuning that can boost your perfomance.

dsm.opt just contains the necessary node and server options, nothing else,
tdpsql.cfg mainly lists the default values:

Hi,

This is a setting I use on a high end plattform with lots of memory.

I strongly recommendthat you disable tsm compression (if enabled), and inserta
line in tdpsql.cfg 'sqlcompression yes'

Play around with numbers. To start with, set stripes = 2, and have a go.

Also, make sure your node has a maxnummp=stripes + 2 if you send data to
filespool or tapes.
