Re: TSM 4 VE proxy crash
Hello Remco, I had this very same problem when we implemented TSM for VE when 6.4 came out. I found that, during the snapshot process, the datamover tried to create a snapshot of itself, which caused the process to crash. By design, the datamover will attempt to remove stale snapshot data when backup operations are started, which means that it tries to remove all mounted disks from the system that were added by the snapshot process. Unfortunately, this includes the datamover's own disk, which causes another crash. And so the loop continues. Snapshot data is stored in the windows\temp\vmware-inc folder. You'll have to reboot the datamover into recovery mode so you can delete this folder. It's locked during regular Windows boots. Once that folder is deleted, you should be able to reboot into standard mode and perform scheduled (or GUI-initiated) backups normally. Good luck and let us know how it goes! __ Matthew McGeary Technical Specialist - Infrastructure PotashCorp T: (306) 933-8921 www.potashcorp.com From: Remco Post r.p...@plcs.nl To: ADSM-L@VM.MARIST.EDU Date: 04/13/2015 09:30 AM Subject:[ADSM-L] TSM 4 VE proxy crash Sent by:ADSM: Dist Stor Manager ADSM-L@VM.MARIST.EDU Hi All, I’ve been struggling with a TSM4VE issue for the past few weeks and so far IBM has been unable to help me. We’re running TSM4VE on a virtual machine and made the mistake of having that VM make a VM backup of itself. Ever since, even now the VM is no longer included in the VM backups TSM attempts to detach the VM’s own active disks from the VM. Of course this is successful, but a windows VM without a system disk crashes within seconds. This only happens during scheduled backups that run as ’local system’, not when I attempt a VM backup manually using my own user account. My hypothesis is that TSM somehow retains information about which disks is has hot-added to the VE proxy, but I don’t know where or how. And apparently, nor does my support engineer. How do I, apart from completely reinstalling the VE proxy, cleanup this mess? Re: How to restore or recover Tivoli Storage Manager TSM
There are many documents on-line that describe in detail how to restore a TSM server. I am sure that many of us can help with specific questions, but it is hard to give useful advice without any information about what problems you are having. Google is your friend as many questions have been asked and indexed. https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#q=tsm+server+restore+procedure Andy Huebner -Original Message- From: ADSM: Dist Stor Manager [mailto:ADSM-L@VM.MARIST.EDU] On Behalf Of Abdelwahed RABBAB Sent: Monday, April 13, 2015 2:10 PM To: ADSM-L@VM.MARIST.EDU Subject: Re: [ADSM-L] How to restore or recover Tivoli Storage Manager TSM help me please 2015-04-13 13:18 GMT+02:00 Abdelwahed RABBAB abdo.rab...@gmail.com: Hi, I am beginner in TSM for a site backup I wanted to backup a database and a restore after the last backup for the site to be identical with the main website Thank you for give me the procedure or the exact method (Montione bands needed for this method DB, copy pool volhist ...) This is my last day at ICF, and the first day of my retirement! I'm moving on to the next non-IT-support chapter in life. I can't speak highly enough of the people who give of their time and expertise on this list. I've learned most of what I know about TSM here. You all are an amazing group, and it has been a wonderful experience in world-wide collaboration. Thank you all! Best wishes, Wanda

Latest firmware level for TS1130-E06 drives
Since we cant get any firmware updates for these drives (we went with non-IBM maintenance and now IBM locks these up and our maintenance company can't seem to get them, either), can someone tell me what the latest firmware level is for these model drives? The last one I got my hand on is: 3592_E06_EU6_883.fmrz back in mid-2014 -- *Zoltan Forray* TSM Software Hardware Administrator Xymon Monitor Administrator Virginia Commonwealth University UCC/Office of Technology Services www.ucc.vcu.edu zfor...@vcu.edu - 804-828-4807 Don't be a phishing victim - VCU and other reputable organizations will never use email to request that you reply with your password, social security number or confidential personal information. Re: Latest firmware level for TS1130-E06 drives
As I suspected. Thanks for the confirmation. I figured since it is an old drive any updates would be few-and-far-between!
