Re: Spectrum Protect documentatie on Knowledgecenter site

2016-06-07 Thread Ailbhe Cashell
Hi
The best place to start is with the Domino Mail landing page:
http://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSTG2D/landing/welcome_sstg2d.html
Use the toggle box on this page to select the version you need. For Domino
choose Version 7.1.0.
The Table of Contents (TOC) is switched off by default, I recommend to
switch it on by clicking on the icon of blue lines at the top left-hand of
the page. Once the TOC is displayed you can navigate to what you need.
Here are the direct links:

Proctect Stgpool

2016-06-07 Thread David Ehresman
If you are using container stgpools, how are you using the "protect stgpool"
command? Are you running it throughout the backup window or after backups have
completed? When and how often do you run the "replicate node" command? Are you
using the forcereconcile option? Why or why not?

I'm getting ready to set up container replication and trying to understand the
implications of the various options.

Re: Spectrum Protect documentatie on Knowledgecenter site

2016-06-07 Thread Roger Deschner
Thanks Andy. You've always been helpful to WDSF/ADSM/TSM/ISP customers;
I still remember meeting you in person at a SHARE conference some years
ago. These links are helpful while IBM sorts out its documentation mess.

This discussion is why I have always saved PDFs whenever I ran across
them, to an encrypted USB thumb drive that I carry with me, especially
at places like heavily firewalled data centers or DR sites. I shudder to
think what recovery would be like in an actual disaster with only online
web "knowledge center" documentation to tell me how to proceed to
recover my employer's critical business information as quickly as
possible - if I could access the web at all. As we see here, even
bookmarking those online sites is a pointless exercise, since the URLs
change so frequently. Keeping this "bookshelf" of PDFs (backed up to TSM
and to PCs both at work and at home) should be a crucial part of any DR
plan. I'll be using this list of URLs to update my bookshelf.

It is also why I have written previously (at length, to the point of
admittedly becoming redundant) about the removal of the Administrator's
Guide as a single book, and scattering its priceless collection of
content to the winds in the form of thousands of online web pages.

Again, thnaks Andy!

v7 upgrade woes

2016-06-07 Thread Rhodes, Richard L.
This is half plea for help and half rant (grr).

For the past two months we've been trying to test a TSM v6.3.5 to v7.1.4/v7.1.5
upgrade . . . . and have completely failed!

TSM v6.3.5
AIX 6100-09
upgrade to TSM v7.1.4 and/or v7.1.5

When we run the upgrade it runs to this status message:
Installing: [(99%) com.tivoli.dsm.server.db2.DB2PostInstall ]
Then it sits, doing nothing. AIX sees no db2 activity, no java activity, no
nothing. It sits for hours! We've let it sit once for 13 hours (overnight)
and the above message was still there. Eventually we kill it.

We've tried:
  two separate AIX systems
two separate TSM's (one 400gb db and one 100gb db)
probably tried 8-10 upgrades, all failed

Support had us try a DB2 standalone upgrade and it also never finished.

We've worked with support and got nowhere. They have no idea what is
happening, let alone any idea of how to figure out what is happening. They did
find one issue - we have to install a base XLC runtime v13.1.0.0 before the v7
upgrade.

Any thoughts are welcome.

These are the steps that will let you monitor the progress...

nohup /opt/tivoli/tsm/server/bin/dsmserv insertdb sesswait=60 >insert.out 2>&1 &

Monitor the output of the process. Verify that the DSMSERV INSERTDB process has
issued the following message before continuing to the next step:
ANR1336I INSERTDB: Ready for connections from the source server
Issue the following command to monitor the process output in the insert.out
file:
tail -f insert.out

(12) Start the extraction from the original server. Specify the TCP/IP address
and port for the V6.3 server. Direct the output of the process to a file for
monitoring:
run as root ID
nohup /usr/tivoli/tsm/upgrade/bin/dsmupgrd extractdb hladdress=10.xxx.xxx.xxx
lladdress=1500 >extract.out 2>&1 &
nohup /usr/tivoli/tsm/upgrade/bin/dsmupgrd extractdb hladdress=127.0.0.1
lladdress=1500 >extract.out 2>&1 &

Monitor the processes for errors and warning messages, and for items that you
might need to take action on:
tail -f extract.out

Re: v7 upgrade woes

2016-06-07 Thread Alex Jaimes
Hey Rick,
I had some challenges with the upgrade as well (3 machines - 10 TSM
Instances).
We upgraded from 6.3.4.3 to 7.1.5 though.

Anyhow, the script/file that your Installation is getting stuck at caught
my attention: com.tivoli.dsm.server.db2.*

I hope the following helps...

So here's what we did:
The upgrade completed but the TSM Server started complaining about not
being licensed. (yup I understand, yours doesn't finish, but bear with
me...)
The TSM Server was halted, and server version 7.1.3 was downloaded to get
the "TSM" licensing package. (7.1.5 didn't not apply the license for TSM
nor DB2...)
The "TSM" licensing package was installed but when we attempted to start
the TSM Server it failed to start with these messages:

IBM Tivoli Storage Manager for AIX

Ran db2 command to verify db2 license, and showed as EXPIRED:

/db2home/tsminst0/sqllib/adm/db2licm -l
Product name: "DB2 Enterprise Server Edition"
Expiry date: "Expired"
Product identifier: "db2ese"
Version information: "10.5"

Then,
- change directories to /repository/native
- list the DB2 zip file: ls -tlr com.tivoli.dsm.server.db2*.zip
- Uncompressed the file:
com.tivoli.dsm.server.db2.aix.ppc64_10.5.500.111.zip (<== SEE, I KNEW THAT

- change directories to: /repository/native/ese/db2/license
- list the file: tmp/image/tsmsrv713/repository/native/ese/db2/license# ls
-tlr db2ese.lic
-rw-r--r--1 root system 912 Apr 29 2015 db2ese.lic

- Copy the file to: /db2home/tsminst0/sqllib/adm

- Then as the instance owner run the following command to apply the license:
db2licm -a db2ese.lic

- Check to see if the license was installed:
$ /db2home/tsminst0/sqllib/adm/db2licm -l
Product name: "DB2 Enterprise Server Edition"
License type: "Restricted"
Expiry date: "Permanent"
Product identifier: "db2ese"
Version information: "10.5"

IT SHOULD SHOW AS "RESTRICTED"

The fix for the issue we ran into is in APAR IT14939.

Good Luck!

Hi Roger,

Yes, I remember meeting you as well, that was a long time ago!

I was talking with one of our senior ID (Information Development) engineers
and she pointed me to this "Easter egg", which I believe has what you are
looking for. Note that since version 7.1.5 is a server-only level, the
books in that bundle reflect that:

   ftp://public.dhe.ibm.com/software/products/TSM/current/

I am going to see if we can find a way to prominently position that link on
our actual knowledge base pages (the "PDF files" section in the TOC is a
logical choice...).

Best regards,

Andy

P.S. By "what you are looking for", I mean a zip bundle of the PDF files. I
regret that I have no satisfactory answer regarding the Admin Guide.

Re: Proctect Stgpool

2016-06-07 Thread Matthew McGeary
David,

I'm using 'protect stgpool' exactly like I used 'backup stgpool'
previously. Every day, after the backup window is completed, I run a
protect stgpool, then a repl node. This ensures that the storage pool is
protected from corruption and that all node metadata is synced across my
two TSM servers. Using protect stgpool is also much more consistent over
fast high-latency networks like our link between the primary datacenter
and our recovery center across the country. Because protect stgpool runs
on an extent level, running a multi-session protect command will always
fill the pipe until process completion. Then I cut a db backup to a local
disk and the server maintenance window is complete.

I don't use the forcerec command unless I see a replication error or
failed replication process.

Hope that helps,

If you are using container stgpools, how are you using the "protect
stgpool" command? Are you running it throughout the backup window or
after backups have completed? When and how often do you run the "replicate
node" command? Are you using the forcereconcile option? Why or why not?

I'm getting ready to set up container replication and trying to understand
the implications of the various options.
