We schedule manually here.
We have one VBS for each of the separate backup streams and edit the
domain.vmfull manually to add VMs. The problem with this approach is that it
is manual, and we end up having the same large VMs running backup all day. We
also have a mixture of some domain.vmfulls specifying only what VMs to backup
and others specifying the cluster to backup and excluding what we don't want
backed up. Messy and confusing, but I inherited this.
I did recently need to rerun a stack of VMs that were not getting run because
the backup VM process was die-ing every night, silently, and I wanted to
control the execution order so the small ones ran first. I did this by
generating backup VM commands for 10 vms at a time and putting all of them into
a macro that I then ran in the conventional way. Macros work on the client
too!
You would probably be better off in the long run using VM tagging, if you are
on a vSphere and SP level that supports it. I'm trying to move that way now
that the underlying VMWare infrastructure is at 6.0. You can manipulate the
tags from the TSM for VE command line with set commands, so that should be
reasonably reader friendly. VM tagging has the ability to spread the VMDKs for
a large VM across multiple VBSs so you can deal with those multi-terabyte
monsters.

My VM backup schedule executes a .bat file on the VM proxy server. The file
has one or more 'dsmc backup vm host1,host2,host3.etc' commands.

We do not use the VMWare plugin to manage our TSM for VE backup schedules.
Schedules backup by host using standard tsm scheduling.
Did this because the vmware client is not very screen reader friendly for a
blind user.
How can I backup more than one vm possibly on disperate hosts in a single
schedule?
i.e. specifying multiple VMs in the "object" parm of a standard schedule?
