Subject: [ADSM-L] EOS for TSM 5.4 and 5.5 (AIX)

Hi,

Sorry if I ask a previously asked question, Google couldn't find the info I
wanted.

I am looking at the IBM End-of-Support page
(http://www.ibm.com/software/sysmgmt/products/support/eos.html) and can not
understand what is the EOS date for TSM 5.4 and 5.5, can somebody help me ?

I assumed that they are not EOS now because they are fresh End-of-Marketing
(July 16, 2010), so the big question is why Passport Advantage (show previous
versions checked) shows only 6.1 and 6.2 binaries ?

Regards,

Tuncel Mutlu

Is there anyway to force TSM (5.4) to checkout volumes from a library
that is no longer powered on? Can I delete a library from TSM if q
libvol says it still has tapes in it?

You should use File Device Class for DB backups.

Subject: [ADSM-L] Virtual Volumes DB Backup

I have two TSM 5.4 servers using SATA drives as their targets. (They are named
TSM3 and TSM4) I do not have any tape drives or libraries set up.

I want to backup the database on TSM3 to TSM4 and vice versa. (As described in
an operation suggested in IBM TSM for Linux: Administrator's Guide, ver 5.3,
pages 602-607.)

However, I get this error:

ANR0984I Process 91 for DATABASE BACKUP started in the BACKGROUND at 03:47:08
PM.
ANR2280I Full database backup started as process 91.
ANR1404W Scratch volume mount request denied - mount failed.
ANR4578E Database backup/restore terminated - required volume was not mounted.
ANR0985I Process 91 for DATABASE BACKUP running in the BACKGROUND completed
with completion state FAILURE at 03:47:09 PM.

My strategy was to set up source and target servers for virtual volumes. When I
defined the storage pool on the target server I specified the devclass as DISK.
As in define stgpool sourcepool disk. However, on the source server the
devclass targetclass seems to want a sequential device. I am guessing that
this is why it seems to be attempting to mount a scratch volume.

 Device Class Name: TARGETCLASS
Device Access Strategy: Sequential
Storage Pool Count: 0
   Device Type: SERVER

I have not found a way to update the targetclass device from sequential to
random .

Is this the best way to achieve my goal?

Thanks,
Rob

You can not manage existing objects with configuration management. You must
delete STANDART policy domain from subscribers or create another name from
manager server. Configuration manager distribute objects and changes to
subscribers. Also you can not change managed objects from subscribers.

 All,

I want to set up TSM configuration manager. I have several AIX 5.1
 TSM servers 5.3.2.

I have defined a profile on one server, and defined a profile
association to this configuration profile for domains, using our
STANDARD domain as a test to propagate additions and changes to
subscribers. Configuration manager is set On to this server:

 tsm: DSMSERV1q profile f=d

 Configuration manager: DSMSERV1
 Profile name: TSM SERVER PROFILE
 Locked?: No
 Description: TSM Master
 Server administrators:
 Policy domains: STANDARD
 Administrative command schedules:
 Server Command Scripts:
 Client Option Sets:
 Servers:
 Server Groups:

On a second server I have defined subscription to the master:

 tsm: DSMSERV2q subscription f=d

 Configuration Profile nameLast update
 manager date/time
 DSMSERV1 TSM SERVER 08/16/06 11:59:40
 PROFILE

This server has Allow Replace yes.

 On configuration manager I run:

   notify subscribers

and it fails at the subscriber end:

Stupid question, but should I not expect the configuration manager to
be able to update existing domains, etc. across my complex?

Does anyone have any idea what I am doing wrong, or if I have the
 wrong expectations?

 Thank you.
