SAN - Solaris

2001-03-15 Thread Alexandre Bicas Caldeira

Hi guys,

Thanks for all that helped me... the problem was: JNI FC adapter was set to
FC-AL mode when it should be set to FC-SW mode... once I changed it in
fcaw.conf, and rebooted the E3500, Solaris could "see" the devices !

But I have another problem for you guys:

Solaris (2.7) recognizes the 5 tape drives but I can't open them (using
tapeutil). I have already commented out the file st.conf, but everytime I
run "drvconfig" the OS recognizes the same device twice, once via IBMtape
and via Solaris itself; in /dev/rmt I have 10 devices ! I belive that is
the cause of my problem, but I'm not so certain ... IBM has just certified
this FC64-1063 adapter to work with Switch 2109 and Shark... They haven't
mentioned anything about tape drives and libraries...

Anyway, has anyone seen this kind of Solaris behaviour ? Should I reboot
again the Server after I changed the "st.conf" file ?!
Unfortunatelly I am a rookie in Solaris and all this seems very strange to
me :)
I've seen a lot of problems like that in ADSM.ORG about SCSI drives... no
solution at all

Again, thanks you all !

SAN - FC Adapters doubt ...

2001-03-14 Thread Alexandre Bicas Caldeira

Hi guys,

I'm trying to set up a SAN using two IBM 2109-S16 FC Switch, six TSM Servers
and a 3494 with 10 3590E drives

Four TSM Servers are running smooth (1 M80, 2 Dell with FC Qlogic 2200, 1
SUN450 with FC Qlogic 2200). All of then are PCI Servers.
I have two other servers (E3500 and a E1) that are SBUS Servers.

Acording to Tivoli web site, all FC Adapters supported in this configuration
are PCI ! ! ! Both SBUS Servers have an JNI FC64-1063 FC Adapter which is
simillar do JNI FCI-1063 (the PCI Version which is supported)... The FC
adapter establishes link to the 2109-S16 (steady green light) but it doesn't
find any tape devices...

Is anyone using these kind of FC adapters with SAN ? Is there any special
firware or device driver that should be installed in these sun boxes in
order to put these cards to work ? I updated the switch's firmware do level
2.2.1a but I had no luck... The IBM 2109-S16 is simillar to a Brocade Switch
which is used by EMC... These FC64-1063 adapter is the one that is used by
most of the SBUS Servers... EMC guys, any tips ?!

Thanks you all !

Netware 5.6 & SunOS 5.6

2001-02-22 Thread Alexandre Bicas Caldeira

Hi guys,

Does anyone know if TSM is compatible with Novell Netware 5.6 and Sun Os 5.6
?!

When I was looking for it at Tivoli site, I found out that one of TSM
requirements is Netware 5.1 but the site didn't mention other versions above
5.1 ...

Thanks all

Jack,

Have you tried "update vol" ?

  /reado
update vol Volume_name acc=| unav
\readw

Usually, I update all the volumes that are removed from the library to
readonly.

Good Luck

Kind of quiet today!

I hope this is a simple one. I have some volumes that were removed from a
3590 library and then went "unavailable" The volumes are now back in but are
all empty. A "q con" for each volume shows there is no data. My problem is
how do I make these volumes scratch again? I cannot delete the volumes
because I get volume cannot be deleted because volume state is mountable not
in lib. How do I make these scratch again?

Thanks for any help

Jack

Export Problem

2001-01-03 Thread Alexandre Bicas Caldeira

Hi TSMers,

I have to perform a migration of a TSM Server from a NT box to an AIX
box. I have about 2TB of data backed up in 150 DLT tapes. My lirary is a
STK9730 with 2 tape drives

My problem is: EXPORT SERVER copies the data from the original tapes to
any given Device Class. There is no need to do this because, I will have the
same TSM Server with the same library and tapes into the AIX box !
Is there a way to copy only the metadata between different plataforms,
just like a BACKUP DB does ? Can DUMP DB be used in this case ? Or is there
any faster way to do it ?

Time is crucial ! Thanks all

RES: Labelling the tapes in 3590-E11 Jukebox

2000-11-25 Thread Alexandre Bicas Caldeira

Sachin,

Try this:

"Label Libvol library_name search=yes labels=prompt checkin=scratch"

It will label all the volumes that aren't checked in, and then check in
those newly labeled volumes...

search=bulk -> looks for a tape only in the priority slot
search=yes -> looks for tapes in all slots except the priority slot

checkin=scratch -> after labeled the tapes are checked in as scratch
checkin=private -> after labeled the tapes are checked in as private

Good Luck

Assunto: Labelling the tapes in 3590-E11 Jukebox

Hi

We have RS6000/SP wide node with AIX 4.3.3, Tivoli Storage manager 3.7.0 and
IBM 3590 E11 jukebox. We are planning to use it for Informix database (ver.
7.24 UC 3 on SAP R/3 ver 4.0B) backup. Presently, we are labelling the tape
from priority slot and then do a "check-in". But there is no fun it. We
would like stack 4 tapes in the ACF and label them one by one. Does any one
know how to label the tapes in single step ?

Thanks in advance

xbsa.o fails with tsm3.73. and Informix 7.31UC5

2000-08-08 Thread Alexandre Bicas Caldeira

Hy guys,

I'm having the same problem that joel had a few months ago:

Does anyone know how to fix it ?! Any tips ?! Joel
?!

"After installing TSM 3.7.2 B/A and API clients, Informix OnBar 7.31.UC5-1
fails with the error "XBSA Error (BSAInit): Invalid environment keyword."

If I fail back to the 3.7.1 version of /usr/tivoli/tsm/client/api/bin/xbsa.o
the backup works.

Has anyone had this problem? Were you able to solve it?

These soft links exist in /usr/lib:
ibsad001.a -> /usr/tivoli/tsm/client/api/bin/libXApi.a
libApiDS.a -> /usr/tivoli/tsm/client/api/bin/libApiDS.a
libXApi.a -> /usr/tivoli/tsm/client/api/bin/libXApi.a

The environmental variables are:
BAR_BSALIB_PATH=/usr/tivoli/tsm/client/api/bin/xbsa.o
DSMI_DIR=/usr/tivoli/tsm/client/api/bin
DSMI_LOG=/usr/tivoli/tsm/client/api/binDSMI_CONFIG=/usr/tivoli/tsm/client/api/bin/dsm.opt"
Thanks all !
