How to keep one month worth of data offsite

2001-06-16 Thread Alyn Bush

How to keep one month worth of data offsite.
The reson, lack of tape spaces and can not have so
many version. The other reson, managment wants data
to be kept in safe box for at least one month the we
can recycle it... This is what I did
Background:
I have 10 filesystem to backup of 5 different systems.
I have 2 libraries of 3750 attached separately, to
the ADSM server. I'm using 1st one for daily live
data of each system, I'm having only one copies of the
files, the current version, and the retention of that
is one year, or can be unlimit...so everyday it's
getting refreshed, only one copy exists.
I need to keep previous day's copy on the second
library, I have two options as I thought of it, one is
to do each day archive and keep it for max. One month
and then start recycling, the other option, which I'm
not sure, is whether I can use Copy Storage pool or
not. I know the retention on Copy Pool is same as the
primary pool... But if I do copy pool to some tapes
and then move that tape offsite, on daily basis, can
these files be retrieved any day within one year, or
it stay only one day.
Please help ...

Salam, I don't think there is any problem swapping
the drive, but let see what others have to say.
This what we might be doing to in the near future,

Any idea?

Re: Fresh implementation of TSM

2001-02-04 Thread Alyn Bush

looks like nobody likes to answer simple and silly
questions, I thought no question is stupid.

Once again any idea of MS Mail Exchange Agent for TSM,
where to get more info. and how to start...etc.
Also deciding to upgrade from ADSM Server for
AIX-RS/6000 - Version 3, Release 1, Level 2.40 to
latest TSM. What is the latest version of TSM, any
idea of steps which I should take in order to upgrade.
I know it's a lot of questions, just contribute
whatever you can.

Appreciate your help.

We are implementing TSM latest version on RS/6000 -
S70A- AIX 4.33 with 3570C driver.
I need some help in regards to Agents for different
packages and things which we should consider prior to
implementation.
We have all kinds of databases such Oracle DB for
Oracle Financial, Exchange, AS/400. Where do I get
agents for these packages, and whether the
installation of those agents is straightforward? And
please let me know if other important points which
might help me in the process.

ADSM Database

2000-10-01 Thread Alyn Bush

I Have:ADSM Server for AIX-RS/6000 - Version 3, Release 1, Level 2.40
following is the list of my ADSM database volumes, and log volumes.

itb pwd
/adsm
itb ls -alt | head
total 10506280
-rw-r--r-- 1 root system 105906176 Oct 01 09:32 logvol1.dsm
-rw-r--r-- 1 root system 550502400 Oct 01 09:30 dbvol1.dsm
-rw-r--r-- 1 root system 525336576 Oct 01 09:29 bkpoolvol2.dsm
-rw-r--r-- 1 root system 525336576 Oct 01 09:29 logvol1
-rw-r--r-- 1 root system 1049624576 Oct 01 09:29 logvol2.dsm
-rw-r--r-- 1 root system 2097152000 Oct 01 09:12 bkpoolvol1.dsm

But wen you go through GUI you see only 2 volumes listed, as following:
Object view -- Database -- Database Volumes:
/adsm/dbvol1.dsm..
/adsm/bkpoolvol2.dsm..
What happened to bkpoolvol1.dsm ?? if you look at the time stamp for this file, you
see that it been in use.
I noticed that the bkpoolvol2.dsm is assigned to: Database Space Trigger--DB
Expansion prefix

Thanks for your help.

2000-10-01 Thread Alyn Bush

Thanks Tab, I did exactly as you suggested, please verify it, and if possible clarify
some of my doubts

I created Sequential Access Storage Pools called RECLAIMDISKPOOL and said it's of
Device Class RECLAIMCLASS. RECLAIMCLASS is File Device Class type FILE with Max.
capacity of 2GB under /u13/adsmreclaim directory. The concern is, each time I start
reclamation, it create a huge files, as followings.
itb pwd
/u13/adsmreclaim
itb ls -alt | head
total 7596048
-rw--- 1 root dba 1791992909 Oct 01 10:12 2263.BFS
-rw--- 1 root dba 2097152000 Sep 30 10:25 2261.BFS

Are these files are temporary files, when does it gets refreshed? Are they actually
taking that much space? Do I need to do any cleanup?

Thanks,
Alyn

Subject:Re: Creating Reclaimation pool on disk

Alyn,

I'm using a similar technique. This is how I set up my system (ADSM 3.1.2 on
AIX 4.3.2).

** First in AIX:
Filesystem1024-blocks Free %UsedIused %Iused Mounted on
/dev/seqlv1 17727488 170070165% 18 1% /seqfs1

** Then in ADSM define the device class (I used 235 MB volumes):
adsm q devc tapedisk f=d

 Device Class Name: TAPEDISK=
Device Access Strategy: Sequential
Storage Pool Count: 3
   Device Type: FILE ==
Format:
 Est/Max Capacity (MB): 235.0 =
   Mount Limit: 15
  Mount Wait (min):
 Mount Retention (min):
  Label Prefix:
   Library:
 Directory: /seqfs1===
   Server Name:
  Retry Period:
Retry Interval:
Last Update by (administrator): TTREPAGN
 Last Update Date/Time: 09/11/2000 12:01:19

** Then, in ADSM, define a storage pool to use the device class (I set
maxscratch to 63 which is 90% of the capacity - two other similar pools share
this disk resource):
adsm q stg corptape f=d

   Storage Pool Name: CORPTAPE  ==
   Storage Pool Type: Primary
   Device Class Name: TAPEDISK   ==
 Estimated Capacity (MB): 0.0
Pct Util: 0.0
Pct Migr: 0.0
 Pct Logical: 100.0
High Mig Pct: 25
 Low Mig Pct: 0
 Migration Delay: 0
  Migration Continue: Yes
 Migration Processes:
   Next Storage Pool: CORPPOOL=
Reclaim Storage Pool:
  Maximum Size Threshold: No Limit
  Access: Read/Write
Description: Sequential disk pool for reclaiming data in
   the L18
   Overflow Location:
   Cache Migrated Files?:
  Collocate?: No
   Reclamation Threshold: 100
Maximum Scratch Volumes Allowed: 63 ===
Delay Period for Volume Reuse: 0 Day(s)
  Migration in Progress?: No
Amount Migrated (MB): 173.32
Elapsed Migration Time (seconds): 25
Reclamation in Progress?: No
 Volume Being Migrated/Reclaimed:
  Last Update by (administrator): TTREPAGN
   Last Update Date/Time: 08/07/2000 17:48:34

** Then in ADSM set the primary tape pool to use that pool as its reclamation
pool:
adsm q stg corppool f=d

   Storage Pool Name: CORPPOOL
   Storage Pool Type: Primary
   Device Class Name: 3575DEV
 Estimated Capacity (MB): 1,807,864.9
Pct Util: 69.0
Pct Migr: 86.6
 Pct Logical: 97.1
High Mig Pct: 90
 Low Mig Pct: 80
 Migration Delay: 0
  Migration Continue: Yes
 Migration Processes:
   Next Storage Pool:
Reclaim Storage Pool: CORPTAPE   ==
  Maximum Size Threshold: No Limit
  Access: Read/Write
Description: 3575 L18 Tape Storage Pool
   Overflow Location:
   Cache Migrated Files?:
  Collocate?: No
   Reclamation Threshold: 45
 Maximum Scratch Volumes Allowed: 0
Delay Period for Volume Reuse: 0 Day(s)
  Migration in Progress?: No
Amount Migrated (MB): 0.00
Elapsed Migration Time (seconds): 0
Reclamation in Progress?: No
 Volume Being Migrated/Reclaimed:
  Last Update by (administrator): TTREPAGN
   Last Update Date/Time: 09/11/2000 13:00:34

Hope this helps.
