Win2000 Restore

2003-03-19 Thread Anderson, Michael - HMIS
I am trying to test the 5.1.5 Windows client. After I do the restore
of the system objects and reboot, it creates me
a new profile. I can see my icons but most of them won't work. I found
a document about changing the registry, in which
it does point to my user name with the name of our domain and 001. I
try and change it back to my ID like it says and
reboot, when I receive the error: windows\system32\config\systemd
corrupt or missing. I figure I am doing something
wrong, but just not sure where. Could someone please give me some
advice. Server is Aix 4.3.3 TSM 4.2.3.3

 I do the following steps:

 Install temp windows (winnt directory)
 restore C drive
 restore system objects
 reboot

 Thanks

TSM and Active Directory

2003-03-05 Thread Anderson, Michael - HMIS
I have been told that we are heading towards using active directory.
My questions is there anywhere that I could get some
good documentation on TSM and Active directory. So that I can start to
prepare if I need to do anything. Any advice or direction
appreciated.

TSM and Active directory

2003-01-07 Thread Anderson, Michael - HMIS
I was wondering if anyone out there has had experience with backing
up active directories. The NT people here are looking
to go this route, and asked me about using TSM with this. They
remember the problems we had with the NT2000

Difference between Archive & Selective

2002-12-24 Thread Anderson, Michael - HMIS
I have an AIX client running very slow backups, we have been looking
into a couple of things, when we noticed something
strange. If we run an archive on the box instead of a selective backup
the speed improves by like 4 times. It went from over six
hours down to just over an hour. The numbers on the files inspected and
backed up look the same. Has anybody else seen
anything like this? The server level is 4.2.3. on aix 4.3.3 client is
4.2.2.1 on aix 4.3.3

Comm timeout value

2002-12-23 Thread Anderson, Michael - HMIS
As of right now the communications time out on my TSM server is
1500. I still get some time outs every so often, so
I would like to increase it. The most I have seen out here posted is the
1500, is there some formula for this, or is it hit and
miss. I am running TSM ver 4.2.3 on AIX 4.3.3. Any suggestions
appreciated

Slow AIX Client backup

2002-12-19 Thread Anderson, Michael - HMIS
I have an AIX client that is backing up very slow. It is an IBM J50
running an application called Softlab. It use to take
4 1/2 hours per night going to tape. When we put it on TSM for testing
it was doing 4 gb in about 4 hours. Which I said
was slow, compared to are other AIX boxes. We checked the NIC and the
switch settings both are at 100/full. They had
no problem with this cause it was still a half hour quicker then what
they had. Now we have put it into the rotation and
they are screaming it has doubled to like 8 hours. I only being the
administrator and not knowing much about the network
group or the AIX systems group, do not know what else to check. Does
anybody have any clues for me? I am running
TSM server ver 4.2.3 (on AIX 4.3.3) client ver 4.2.2.1

We have a new server going in and it is running Linux Red hat

what do I do. Or is there a Linux client that will work for this

98 Workstation backup problem

2002-12-05 Thread Anderson, Michael - HMIS
I am having a problem with one of my workstation clients. The backup
seems to be running fine until it hits the users
pst file which is over 1 gb. When it gets to this file it starts to back
it up but then after a while just hangs. The client side
only shows the following message in the dsmerror.log " failure in
communications open call rc: -50" My activity log just
shows client terminated, did not respond in seconds. If I exclude
her pst file the backup runs fine. Although her NIC
is set at auto, the transfer rate shows very good. Anybody have any
suggestions?

Server is 4.2.3.0 on AIX 4.3.3

Can't delete filespace

2002-10-31 Thread Anderson, Michael - HMIS
We upgraded one of our clients from NT 4 to NT 2000 and then
converted to ntfs and expanded C drive. During all this
we took a couple of backups that I would like to now delete. What I
did is rename the node after each step. I am now trying
to delete those nodes but I am getting an error message saying that no
matching file spaces found. I can bring the data up
if I rename the client to the name of the node I want to delete. Do I
need to put something special in the delete command.
I issued the following: delete filespace (node_name) (filespace)
type=ANY

 any help appreciated

Cleanup Backupgroups question

2002-10-14 Thread Anderson, Michael - HMIS

Is there any special syntax for the cleanup backupgroups question. I
upgraded to 4.2.2.12 and tried to run the

Anrd tb.c(1167) threadid(31) invalid encoded data length

Anr0104e imutil.c(8363) Error deleting row 100 from table

I have seen that you may have problems with the command and you
need to call support for a fix, but I wanted to
make sure I have the command correct first. Any help or suggestions

AIX restore from one client to another

2002-07-10 Thread Anderson, Michael - HMIS

I want to be able to restore directories from a production client to
a test client. I know with the other platforms you
just put the other clients node name in the path, but being unfamiliar
with AIX I was not sure if this would be the same.
I have not tried this yet, just looking for some direction. This is how
I assume it would go:

 restore nodeA /usr/xyz/* -su=yes nodeB/usr/xyz/

I guess my question is, is this possible and do I have the right
syntax.

 Any help would be appreciated

Unloaddb/loaddb question

2002-06-26 Thread Anderson, Michael - HMIS

I have one more question about the unloaddb/loaddb procedure. When
you do the loadformat command do you count the
mirrored logs in the count. For example if I have 2 recovery log files
and copies of the 2 in another directory I would assume
that my loadformat command would have 4 as the number of recovery logs
with the names of all 4.

Version 4.2.1.26 Client Problem?

2002-04-16 Thread Anderson, Michael - HMIS

I was wondering if any one has had any problems with the 4.2.1.26
client. I started to roll this out to production on some
of my nt4.0 and 2000 clients. We have this payroll software that runs
on 3 nt4.0 boxes, 1 SQL 1 file server, and 1 for the apps.
The other day I upgraded them to the 4.2.1.26 clients. Two of the
boxes are fine, but the SQL box is now acting up.
It does not lock the box up, or crash it, It just will not allow
users to access the shares. It seems to be ok after a reboot
but the next day we start over again. We are trying to do some more
debugging, but was wondering if anyone else had
   any kind of similar problem.

Unload/load DB question

2002-03-25 Thread Anderson, Michael - HMIS

If I want to do a unload/load DB for maintenance reasons, do I still
need to do the DSMSERV Format part, or is this
just for when you lose the database. These are the steps I found in
the manual:

1) DSMSERV Dumpdb

2) DSMSERV Format (init database & recovery logs)

3) DSMSERV Loaddb

4) DSMSERV Auditdb (if necessary)

Is there anything else I need to do, or should be aware of

 Thanks

Unload DB question

2002-03-05 Thread Anderson, Michael - HMIS

I have been seeing some postings about the unload/load database
commands. I am a learn as you go tsmer, so
this has peeked my interest. I am in the process of cleaning up
some of the nodes that had resided in TSM. I was
wondering if the unload/load procedure is a maintenance like
procedure that should be done every so often, or if it
was a cure for a specific problem. I am running TSM 4.1.5 on aix
4.3.3 with a 14 gb database at 65% used

AIX client Password Problem

2002-01-22 Thread Anderson, Michael - HMIS

I sent a note earlier about some of my aix clients failing on backup
due to invalid password file. We reset the password
and it is ok for awhile then happens again. Someone responded that there
was a fix APAR IC31516, but I can not find this fix
in the version 4.1 clients. I am running 4.1.2 client on server 4.1.5.
Should I upgrade the client to the next release 4.1.3 or
should I go up into the latest 4.2 client. Also do I have to remove the
previous version, or can I just install over it.

TSM Crashing

2001-12-21 Thread Anderson, Michael - HMIS

Is there a known bug in TSM 4.1.0 (AIX) We have been running since
February, but all of a sudden the last few
days my TSM server keeps crashing. It has crashed the last three days
and five of the last seven. It has come at
different times of the day and I can't seem to find a common link. The
TSM log just stops and the AIX error log says
a core dump software abnormal termination. I figure if I call support,
the first thing they will tell me is what I want to do,
upgrade to the latest 4.1 ( I believe 4.1.4). However I have very
little AIX knowledge and have to wait for our AIX people.
If I can tell them that there are known bugs and that this should fix
the problem, it may light a fire under them. Any
ammo or help would be appreciated.

AiX client password problem

Can anyone share some light on a question I have. One of my AIX

The client log gave a ans0282e password file is not available error.
The TSM log gives a ANR0424W session refused
invalid password submitted. If we reset the password and then rerun
the job it works ok, but the AIX guys are asking
me what happened and I don't know what to tell them. This is the
second client that this has happened on, and I have

Select Question

status for specific nodes. I figured out the start time and status
but I am having trouble with the completed time. I guess what I am

Client 4.1.2.12 Problem?

2001-08-08 Thread Anderson, Michael - HMIS

I was wondering if there is problems with the Windows NT client
4.1.2.12. I remember seeing a previous note about
backups die, when it hits a file it did not know how to handle. Here is
my problem, I have been upgrading my NT clients
from 3.06 to 4.1.2.12. I am just over half way done, but on two of the
servers I have upgraded I have the following problem.
The backup will be going along and then just die, the only message in
the act log is client timed out. I tried putting the
clients in verbose, but then the problem stopped. I put the client back
in quite mode, a couple of days ago, and now it
started again yesterday. TSM server is 4.1.0 My next question is if I
have to upgrade, can I do it without rebooting.
A lot of our servers here are 24 x 7, and it is not easy to get
permission for down time.

for exchange 1.1 I can ran a manual backup with
no problem, but when I try to install the scheduler I keep getting an
invalid option file. I have issued the following command
to install the scheduler from the baclient directory:

  DSMCUTIL INST /NAME:'EXCHANGE SCHEDULER' /NODE:NODENAME
//PASSWORD:PASSWORD
  /CLIENTDIR:"C:\WIN32APP\IBM\ADSM\BACLIENT
/OPTFILE:"C:\WIN32APP\IBM\ADSM\MSEXC\DSM.OPT

my questions I guess is one can this version of exchange agent run
with the 3.06 client and second is there any
incorrect syntax that I keep missing. Any help appreciated We will be
going to TSM 4.1, but not till beginning of the
 year.

Upgrade to Tivoli

2000-07-25 Thread Anderson, Michael

I was wondering if anyone else is in the same boat I am. We are
trying to upgrade our ADSM 3.1.2.20 to Tivoli.
I was just informed however that because we have a Netstore a01, that
we can not upgrade. My question is if anyone
else has the same problem, what are you going to do?
