Tape Volume usage

2012-05-25 Thread Botelho, Tiago (External)

Hello

I have several Tape Archive Pools defined on TSM.

The Archive's tapes are removed periodically from TSM library to a safe.

During normal TSM usage there are some Nodes that made archives to those
storage pools.

Regarding that some of the tapes are offsite TSM Library, TSM use new
scratch volumes for archive.

Now I have several archives tapes with low PCT_UTILIZED how are using
many tapes like the example bellow.

Example:

VOLUME_NAME EST_CAPACITY PCT_UTILIZED PCT_RECLAIM

-- -
---

A00015L4 832845.5 88.7
11.2

A00018L4 160.0 2.1

A00122L4 160.0 2.3

A00142L4 160.0 9.9
0.0

A00145L4 160.0 36.2

A00158L4 160.0 5.7

A00243L4 160.0 5.5

A00311L4 160.0 5.6

AE0055L4 160.0 2.4
0.0

AE0077L4 160.0 2.4
0.0

AE0080L4 160.0 14.8
0.0

Note: Collocation are not used in Storage Pool. Now all tapes are in
the library

My question is: There are any way to configure storage pool to use the
minimal number of tapes (use tape maximum capacity on storage pool)?

There are any way to reduce the number of tapes using the maximum tape
capacity or I have to do it manually with command (MOVE DATA)?

Thank you

Thank you for your all answers.

Regarding to your experience what is more efficiency regarding to tape
usage capacity (increase tape amount of data stored)? Compression on
client or compression on Drive(HW)?

TSM Client Return Codes - Failed or partial failed

2011-08-31 Thread Botelho, Tiago (External)

Hello,

I have a 160 (daily backup) environment and I need to perform a daily
report.

Several Client Nodes report Status: Failed Result: Errors.

In those cases I have to login in the TSM Node and check dsmsched.log
and dsmerror.log to check if it fails completed or not.

In some situations, the client Backup fails completed. Others the
errorlog.log / dsmsched.log report open files or files not found ( but
in the report send by TSM Management console I cannot see the
difference).

I'm looking a solution that can see the difference between a complete
failure and a partial failure (like open files or files not found) to
use on TSM Management console (SQL statements).

There are any SQL query that can show me the difference?

Any event that can be disable on the TSM Server to prevent this.

Any ideas?

Thank you for your delp

Hello all,

I have a situation on a TSM Node that I don't understand.

I received a daily Failed Status from this node regarding to this file:

09/21/2010 01:11:40 ANS1228E Sending of object
'\\vwaepasd00081\d$\NTDS\ntds.dit' failed

09/21/2010 01:11:40 ANS8010E An attempt to backup or archive a file has
exceed the maximum number of retries.

Dsm.opt (part):

SNAPSHOTCACHELOCATION C:\TSM_VSS

SNAPSHOTPROVIDERFS VSS

SNAPSHOTPROVIDERIMAGE VSS

SNAPSHOTCACHESIZE 3

NODENAME VWAEPASD00081

EXCLUDE.FILE "D:\NTDS\ntds.dit"

EXCLUDE.DIR "D:\NTDS"

CHANGINGRETRIES 0

On TSM GUI I see the directory d:\NTDS excluded when I do a manual
backup.

On TSM Server:

Cloptset:

INCLEXCL 7 No exclude
*:\...\NTDS\ntds.dit

Management classes: Backup the file (no retries)

TSM Node:

Windows 2003 R2 SP2 Standard Edition

TSM Client Version 6.2.0

TSM Server:

AIX 6.1

TSM Server 5.5.2

Any ideia for this issue?

Thanks

Review the TSM documentation regarding the Changingretries option. If a file
changes as TSM is trying to back it up, and you tell it not to retry, then...

Update the Option Set. Instead of Force=NO use Force=YES.

Hello,

Has the TSM scheduler service been restarted since the exclude rules
were added? If not then it won't have picked up the additions to
dsm.opt, which would explain the discrepancy between manual and
scheduled backups.

Best wishes,

If you have not already, take a look at IBM Technote 1389435.
In any case, given the number of clients you intend to work with, it
would seem that the CLI would be the best, fastest vehicle for
accomplishing the work.

Urgent: dsmj omn AIX does not open GUI

2009-12-30 Thread Botelho, Tiago (External)
Hello,

I'm trying to make and archive from my AIX clients using GUI. I only
have today for Downtime on my 12 AIX Servers.

Dsmj do not start client GUI, and I cannot know why.

Anyone can help? Thank you.

I connect remotely on each servers and do the following:

#Export DISPLAY=[MY_IP:0.0]

#cd /usr/tivoli/tsm/client/ba/bin

#dsmj

Here it open a BA GUI interface (temporary) and then I received the
following box message:

ANS2609S TCP/IP communications failure between the browser
and the client machine.

On AIX side:

# dsmj

#

# cat dsmj.log

Please try to add next lines in opt file

TDPO_TRACE_FLAGS ORCLEVEL0
TDPO_TRACE_FILE /usr/tivoli/tsm/client/oracle/bin64/tdpo.trc

to have trace file. It is better to touch trace file before backup and
check write permissions for Oracle HOME owner.

TSM Data Protection for SQL - Scheduler

2009-08-21 Thread Botelho, Tiago (External)
Hello,

I'm new to TSM Data Protection for Databases.

I configured the TSM DP for SQL and I'm able to perform manual backups
for my SQL DB.

How can I Scheduler a Backup to a SQL Database (like TSM Scheduler in a
TSM BA Client) to perform daily backups?

Re: volumes in a collocation group?

2009-03-18 Thread Botelho, Tiago (External)
Hi Larry,

I thing that my TSM Server do not have this DB record (version 5.2) , but I
will try to help you or give you some ideas.

Try sommething similarlike this:

select volume_name from volumeusage where stgpool_name='STORAGEPOOL' group by
volume_name

try to find where COLLOCG record are (maybe in nodedata table)

See on TSM Server commnd line all the tables from db:

h select
select * from tables
select * from columns
...

Useful scripts can be made with TSm DB

Best regards

Tiago

Hi,
Would someone have a query that returns all the volumes in a particular
collocation group (within a copypool)?

Subject: Client Data Lost after client re-installation

Hello all,

After client node system disk failure the system administrator change the
failure disk, install the OS and makes a manual backup of the client (same node
name and IP as before).

Now, I search for old data (before disk failure), and no data were found.

An expire inventory were made after the backup ... I think that the inactive
files should be shown. Backup copy Group for backup: Version Data Deleted =3 ;
Retain only Version = 360 days.

I try the option "show active and inactive files" and point in time" options on
the client, but no old data were found (only the data of the manual backup made
after node disk failure)

Any idea what can be the problem? TSM Node ID?

Any suggestion to solve this problem and return the old files?

Thank you for your help

Best Regards

Tiago
