ITSM Client Install Problem (UNCLASSIFIED)

Caveats: NONE

One of my client admin, in the process of updating the client box from
Win-NT to Win-2K, Did the following:
(TSM CSS is the name of the ITSM client service on the box.)

 1) loaded the Windows 2000 Advanced Server CD while in windows and
following the on-screen wizard
 2) Upgraded the box from Windows NT 4.0.
 3) After upgrading, stopped the TSM CSS services and attempted to install
the Tivoli product

Result of the attempt to install ITSM is the message: "Tivoli Storage
Manager Client Requires Windows NT 4,"

and the following from the event log:

The description for Event ID ( 1 ) in Source ( MsiInstaller ) cannot be
found.
The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or
message
DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. The following
information is
part of the event: Product: Tivoli Storage Manager Client --
Tivoli Storage Manager Client Requires Windows NT 4, (NULL), (NULL), (NULL),

(NULL), (NULL), (NULL).

ITSM client to be installed is V5.2.3.

admin does not wish to 'fall back' to NT. Any other suggestions?

Exchange Backup & SIS

2003-06-12 Thread Bradshaw, Cecil C Mr DATACEN/IBM
Management has given me a questionnaire from a 'potential TSM customer'. One
of the questions was how TSM handles Exchange SIS (Single Instance Storage)
backup and recovery. I have looked through the documentation on TSM Exchange
client, Redbooks, and ADSM Archive, and have not found anything. My
question: is there anything special about SIS? Backup? Recovery? Some place
I can find documentation?
TIA!

Sad to say, management may tell you the VW is 'good enough'.

Good point...

Only comparing prices, and not functionality, is like going in to Porsche,
and telling them that if they dont lower their prices, you'll buy a
Volkswagen...

Hi there,

Can anyone explain to me why information is displayed like below, with ~ and
\ in the process status columns?
Also, the help text looks like rubbish to me.
Perhaps these things are related and i have missed something during
installation.
Servers are running 5.1.6.2 on AIX433 and on AIX51. Both machines have this.
Never had this before!

Re: dsm schedule does not write dsmsched.log

2003-02-04 Thread Bradshaw, Cecil C Mr DATACEN/IBM
My experience (with V5 client for windows and unix) is that on new install
you should specify even the default location. If you don't you won't get
either log by default.

Internal Error 2755.1631

2002-08-13 Thread Bradshaw, Cecil C Mr DATACEN/IBM

Given TSM Client V5.1.1, installing on Win-NT Desktop, V4.x, Install process
begins as expected, using default destination, 'typical' install, etc. After
'install' button pushed the following msg:

Internal Error 2755.1631 E:/V5_Client/Tivoli Storage Manager Client.msi

and install stops at that point.

Many other 'identical' systems have been installed using CD in question.

Anyone have any thoughts?
Thanks,
Brad

Re: Offsite Mirror of TSM server

2002-04-19 Thread Bradshaw, Cecil C Mr DATACEN/IBM

Or, make the 'hotsite' the primary server and the building with the clients
the secondary.

Why not mirror the TSM logs/DBs to the hotsite, when the source server
fails bring up the target server pointing to the mirrored DB/logs?

Subject: Offsite Mirror of TSM server

Let me preface this with, I am not sure how to completely ask these
questions since I don't have all of the details but hopefully someone can
give me some idea of how TSM can/will handle this, if at all possible.

Current configuration: TSM 4.1 on OS/390 using 3590B tape drives in a
3494 ATL

Requirements as I understand them: Setup a off-location "hot site" backup
TSM server that will have copies of everything the main server and/or
other TSM server (we are working on splitting the TSM traffic/load onto
another TSM server) has. The "hot site" server will probably be an AIX
box with 3590E (possibly FC) drives.

I have looked into the source/target server issue but am a little confused
since the "target" server will only see things that come from the "source"
server as archive objects.

If the building with the "source" server burns down (and this same
building also houses a majority of the clients that are backed up !), how
would the "target" server be used to restore all of the client nodes ?

How about the database backups that are sent to the "target" server ? What
use are they if you have to have the "source" server to identify what is
on the "target" server ?

Should I/could I setup database mirror volumes on a remote (target ?)
server over simple IP connections or is this only possible with DASD using
XRC processesespecially since the current, main database is on OS390 ?
If this was moved to an AIX box, how would this be handled ? NFS ???

As you can tell, any and all guidance is greatly appreciated !!!
