4.3.2.0 Server Level

2002-10-31 Thread Danny Miles
I'm finally getting around to building our new 4.2.x TSM IBM M80 AIX 4.3.3 server
(this box has been sitting for about 9 months) next week and wanted to ask for
opinions about which level I should take it to. For me, this is a big jump since I've
been living with a 3466 Netstore running 3.7.3.6 for a long time!

This will be a new install and not a migrate from a previous install. I see that
4.3.2.0 is out there but I have seen a few complaints on the list but I'm not sure
what type of installs they were or if that made a difference. I'm thinking that if
4.2.3.0 is stable, then I could avoid the 'System Object' issue I hear about when
folks move to V5.

I see the 4.2.3.0 version on the ftp site is dated 10/14/02 and wonder if this has
been updated at all.

Any suggestions, opinions, ideas by anyone will be appreciated.

Thanks,

Danny.

OFM Earns 'Tivoli Ready Certification' for TSM

2002-03-22 Thread Danny Miles

Hi Folks:

Just an FYI.

Just wanted to pass on the info that Open File Manager (OFM) has earned 'Tivoli Ready
Certification' for Tivoli Storage Manager. I guess this is ok, but I'm still sore
that IBM let Veritas steal The Kernel Group's Bare Metal Restore (BMR).

Anyway, see the release at the URL below.

Windows 3.7.2 to 4.2.1.20

2002-01-11 Thread Danny Miles

Hi Folks:

I still have a 3.7.3.6 TSM server (I know, I know) on AIX 4.3.2. (I have a new 4.2
server but it will be March before I get it up and running due to a corporate splitup.)

I may use the old server (3.7.3.6) for the W2K servers behind the firewall. What I'm
wondering is if I can use the latest Windows client, 4.2.1.20, with the 3.7.3.6
server? Is there an upgrade path that I should take or can I install 4.2.1 and then
4.2.1.20 or do I just go from 3.7.2.0 to 4.2.1.20?

NetAdmin doesn't want to open up any ports for TSM (1500, etc) because of security
reasons. I'm not experienced on firewalls so I assume they're right about an open TSM
port being a security risk.

Is anyone using this configuration or anyone that can let me know if this combination
is feasible?

I appreciate any responses.

Danny.
