ANS4005E File not found

2006-11-27 Thread Gopinathan, Srinath
Hi All,

I am getting the below mentioned error. As per IBM
Problem
Error ANE4005E shows "Error processing 'filespace' file not found The
file being processed for backup, archive or migrate no longer exists on
the client. Another process deletes the file before it can be backed up,
archived or migrated by ADSM". Appears the file was examined by the
backup but could not migrated or back it because it was delete before it
could be transferred to the server.

Solution
Verify that the file does exist.
Possiblity that the file is corrupted or that it have exceed the 255
character length

I am not able to find the files as mentioned below in the location
mentioned. Please let me know on how to work about this problem.

Expanding the UNIX filesystem (TSM)

2006-11-07 Thread Gopinathan, Srinath
Hi,

I am getting an error stating that
"The percentage of available space in the file system /apps/tsm/file is
low (0.04769113860967792 percent)."

Hence, we allocated 100GB of space to the Unix server where /apps/tsm/
is located. Now the Unix server team is not able to expand the
filesystem as that filesystem is 99% full.

Is there any way of expanding the filesystem?

Looks to me like it could be two different machines trying to use one
node name. The biggest clue that this is the problem is your message
ANR2576W. Reboot the client machine, in case it really did get two
schedulers running. But it's more likely two different machines trying
to share one nodename. At any rate, do

q actlog begindate=-2 search=GBTLSWIOA001

and just check the IP addresses it is connecting from. This is one way
to catch cheaters who use one node name on two machines. Here's what
you're looking for:

2006-11-01 23:15:25 ANR0406I Session 81867 started for node
GBTLSWIOA001
  (WinNT) (Tcp/Ip 111.222.111.16(2566)).
then a bit later...
2006-11-01 23:20:25 ANR0403I Session 81867 ended for node
GBTLSWIOA001
  (WinNT).

This is as it sould be. But if you have

2006-11-01 23:15:25 ANR0406I Session 81867 started for node
GBTLSWIOA001
  (WinNT) (Tcp/Ip 111.222.111.16(2566)).
2006-11-01 23:25:25 ANR0406I Session 81895 started for node
GBTLSWIOA001
  (WinNT) (Tcp/Ip 111.222.111.50(2566)).

...Now you've got your perpetrator. They're running two machines on one
nodename, and you now have the IP addresses of both of them. Go gettum!

Q NODE GBTLSWIOA001 F=D shows the IP address this node last connected
from, which can be useful.

Beware that IP addresses can change if the client node uses DHCP (i.e. a
laptop), but even if the IP addresses change, you should see a start and
an end. If you see several starts from the same IP address, that is
normal too, especially if they have RESOURCEUTILIZATION set higher than
1. What you are looking for is several starts from different IP
addresses before you get the matching ends.

Also try

q filespace GBTLSWIOA001

and see if you can eyeball what looks like two different primary drives:

ROGERD.ADSM1 \\rogerd\c$ 1WinME
ROGERD.ADSM1 \\861077\c$ 3WinNT

Aha! This one has two different Windows C:\ drives. This is harder to
spot on unix-ish systems (including Mac OSX) because they all have the
same filespace names. You can eliminate false positives here by doing
Q FILESPACE F=D which shows the last backup start and end dates. It's
possible that one of those duplicate C:\ drives is from an old OS or
old machine that got upgraded, and backup dates will tell you that.

The most frequent cause of cheating like this is not people who set
out to beat the system, but rather people who replace their computer
with a new one and give away their old computer to a lucky colleague.
It still has the old TSM client including the scheduler on it, and
like the Energizer Bunny, it keeps going, and going, and going. We
find that most people with these Energizer Bunny nodes don't even know
they're backing up. The key message to look for to spot this kind of
problem is the ANR2576W you show below.

You might want to set minimum throughput thresholds, also. See the TSM
Admin Guide.

Database Cache Hit Ratio is too low. Condition (91.0 < 98)

Backup Failures

2006-10-23 Thread Gopinathan, Srinath
Hi All,

I have a schedule which is failing regularly. When I see the TSM logs I
don't even find a single object failed, but somehow the schedule shows
as failed.

Could somebody have a look at the logs and let me know why its happening
(or) how troubleshooting can be done from here?

Thanks and Regards

Re: Monitoring a clients Restoration progress

2006-10-13 Thread Gopinathan, Srinath
Hi All,

I have initiated a Restore from the Client (Solaris) by means of a Rman.

Is there any means to monitor the following
1) How much percentage restoration is complete?
2) what is the file being restored?

Srinath G
