Minimizing Restore Time Using Backupsets
Hello Everyone I have the (perhaps) crazy idea that having backupsets around can help my restore time even if they reside on a library controled by the TSM server. I have a server with around 400,000 small files and over 150 Gigs. I can't do Image Backups cause files reside on an old NAS. I have an average backup trhoughput of about 6 Mb/Sec but restore is not good: 2.2 Mb/Sec. I got the idea that if I do periodic backupsets and restore from those, even though they'll be traveling trough the network, restore tiem will decrease. Is all this real or am I missing something? How do backupsets integrate in your backup strategy? Ing. Jorge A. Salinas G. TSM 5.1.6.5 and NDMP with EMC NS600
Well the title said it all I would like to start to test this envrionment : EMC NS600 ( NAS ) with MIA 3584 Library with Latest Flash TSM 5.1.6.5 on AIX 4.3.3.11 IBM 2109 F16 SAN Switch Has anybody tried this before, volume level backups of a huge file system using NDMP. Until last week I was told by the IBM guys that it was not really supported but I found this: http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=663&context=SSGSG7&q=&uid=swg21054144&loc=en_US&cs=utf-8&lang=en+en By the way, there was a thread not long ago about licensing procedures for TSM clients and yes they're processor centered. Re: TSM LTO 3580 Performance
Hi All I have sort of the same problem. But my drives are connected through a SAN. So small flies in LANFree Backups are an issue. Is there a way to avoid this interrupted stream issue? It sounds like a terrible waste to have several LTO-1s with fibre attachments and HBAs and what nots to have to always rely on disk pools. Total Storage Expert and TSM on AIX
Hi all I'm going to need some data collection from a Total Storage Expert. I also have a TSM server (5.1.6.5) running on an AIX 4.3.3.11 but its not in total production. Do you know of some issues when instaling both products on the same machine? I don't want to waste CPUs on the TS Expert. :) Ing. Jorge A. Salinas G. 3584 on Solaris trough SAN
Hi everyone I've been trying to set up TSM backup procedures on a Solaris 8 server trough a SAN. My TSM server is on the same SAN (made up of 2109 F16s). I have a problem setting up the Qlogic HBA supposedly supported by the 3584 to the appropriate F-Code and driver levels, 2.00.01 and 5.06, respectively. The IBMTape driver just can't load on the solaris environ and there are no other scsi tape devices on the system so I just negate ST load to avoid conflicts. Still, I can't get to the appropriate levels on the device the HBA is supposedly a QLOGIC 2200F bought from Sun. I know this is not a TSM problem exactly but I wanted to know if any of you had this problem before and more importantly how to correct it. Thank you all. Ing. Jorge A. Salinas G.
