Nt clients on DMZ
Hi All ! TSM server 4.1.5.0 running on HP/UX 11.00 TSM client 4.1.2 on NT The clients are on a special DMZ, with two firewall on the side of the TSM server. On the firewalls, there are open the 1500 and 1501 ports. On the NT client network configuration, there aren4t allowed ports. The problem is when I scheduler any backup to that4s nodes. The server is trying many times to contact with the clients. On the clients dsmerror.log I only see the messages " TCP accepted connection " , but the scheduler doesn4t not work. I have to delete the scheduler on the server. The incremental backup from clients using the GUI interface works fine. Anybody have idea about what can be happening ? Thanks in advance !

I am currently receiving tape drive failures when trying to check in and out tapes, also during our nightly archive. They have been increasing during the last few months. My environment is Magstar 3570, 2 drives. I am currently running TSM 4.1.2.0 on AIX 4.3.3. I have been cleaning the drives regularly, but am not sure if I should be IBM involved or not. One of the main problems is that when the drive gets the error, the drive does not reset. It could be the tapes causing the problems, but the drives are still not resetting. Just yesterday someone was checking in tapes and loaded the wrong one, but the drive failed due wrong tape being mounted. Then the drive did not reset itself. Is there anything that I can do without calling IBM to see if I can get this fixed? Thanks in advance, Bill Wheeler PDM Administrator La-Z-Boy Incorporated (734) 242-1444 x 6170
Re: Upgrade or new install??
Both systema are very diferent, so I would do a new installation. The other cuestion: Yes, you can run several tsm servers on the same network, please read the information about " enterprise server on TSM guide 4.2 Good luck! Juanma.

Re: AIX Client using SHMEM not backing up..
My Tsm Server run on HP/UX Unix System. The dsmerror.log lines are normal. What I mean is There are a 4.1.4 a bug on this TSM for HP/UX version ! and I4ve install the patch as IBM support suggest and just a part of the problems are repaired. The TSM server does not hang now, so I4ve got problems with the tcp conections, maybe it is necesary to install a patch or do tunning on TSM client to adjust the tcp parameters. Note: At The problem that you show me on the message at the botton, the administrator has problems with the ports, maybe. Thanks. Juanma. APAR IC31996
Hi. I have got a TSM Server 4.1.4 running on HP/UX 11.0. Every time server contact with the clients to make a scheduled backup, the end of tcp comunications leaves sockets conection on " closed " status and never end. When there are a lots of this " not well closed conections ", the TSM server hangs and tcp does not work any more, unless restart the tsm server ( dsmserv -quiet & ). IBM suppport told me to upgrade my tsm server to 4.1.5.0 I4ve done, and now there are still a lot of this closed conections on the server, so it is working properly, ( not hang ). Anyway, I4ve found that every " closed " conection on server mean a " time_wait_2 " on the client. If I change the tcp client parameter " tcp_fin_wait_2_timeout " to 60 seg. the client close the socket and the server close the " closed " comunication. The cuestion is : Do you know this problem ? Do you know if it is necesary to install an upgrade on the client ? I accept any investigation or any suggest about this " not normal " tcp procedure on TSM server running on HP/UX 11.0. Thanks. Juanma.
