Subject: [EXTERNAL] [ADSM-L] OSSM Integration with SP 8.1.16

Hello Everyone,

I have tried to configure Open Snap Store Manager to integrate with SPP.
When I tried to use default TSM self signed cert then I can do the OSSM config
without any issue. However when I try to use CA signed cert then OSSM services
are not able to communicate with IBM Spectrum Protect Server and OSSM services
are not coming up. Does anyone successful configure OSSM with CA signed cert ?
Even I tried to copy the CA cert files to
/home/tsminst1/ossm/.secret/CAs/mycacert.cert.

Have tried with other TSM servers where we have imported CA cert but encounter
same issue but when I remove the cert and do the config then it works.

If anyone come across this issue and give some light on it then would really
appreciate it.

Yes, it sends its backup images to TSM. This is true for all of
SysBack's backup types (system, volume group, filesystem, local volume and
file/directory)
Its called IBM Tivoli Storage Manager for System Backup and Recovery
(SysBack).

Recently the product was sold to Christie. But IBM is still honoring all
existing SysBack contracts with Tech support and maintenance.

"Tivoli Monitoring for TSM" (the monitoring and analysis tool that uses
Cognos) is no longer mentioned in anything about Spectrum Protect 8.1.
There is a tiny note that Tivoli Monitoring for TSM V7 can monitor a
Spectrum Protect V8 server, but that's all.

Has this feature been deprecated? (i.e. Could it be unwise to start
using it now if we've never used it before?)

Has this feature been combined into the new 8.1 Operations Center?

Has this feature been spun off as a separate product?

We are trying to figure out a future course here as we plan for 8.1. We
currently use IBM SPSS for this purpose, as we have since the product
was called WDSF, then ADSM, and TSM, and had planned on migrating to
Tivoli Monitoring/Cognos. But now I'm thinking of just keeping our
substantial base of SPSS procedures for monitoring, long-term trends,
and the like. As a university, we will always be licensed for IBM SPSS
for academic research. Sticking with our homebrewed SPSS procedures
might be better future-proofing if the Tivoli Monitoring/Cognos feature
is going away at some point.

Servergraph is always a possibility, but the cost has been prohibitive.

I cannot find any information about this. Either I'm missing something
obvious, or there really is not much happening here.

Also can't speak to Cognos, but Servergraph can do all of those reports

Re: Monitoring Agent, 2 on a single TSM Server?

You can do that on AIX and Linux, by installing the code into different
directories. You can't however do that on Windows.

But what issue are you dealing with between the versions?

Is it possible to install two Monitoring Agents on a single TSM server?

My hope: leave the current remote agent that pushes data from TSM 6.3.x to
the production Monitoring/Reporting/Admin Center server where production
reports are produced.

But, also install a second Remote Monitoring Agent (related to TSM 7.1.1)
on that same TSM 6.3 server and configure it to push data to a new
Monitoring/Reporting server.

This would let me workout the wrinkles in new reporting and continue to
use Remote Agents, not several local agents.

Alternative, I suppose: create a second local Agent on the new Monitoring
server and in time delete it, when I upgrade the Remote Agent to the new
release.

Thanks.

Hi there,

following scenario:

I have installed TSM 7.1 without the OC and have then updated it to
7.1.0.100. As I had to find out, you cannot install the Admin Center on a
Windows 2012 R2 Server, so I have to use the Operations center.

Is it possible to install OC after updating the server? Should I use the
installation package from 7.1 or should I use the latest OC package
7.1.0.200 from the IBM FTP server?

Re: TSM DB2 reinstall

2014-04-18 Thread Lee Miller
You can do it outside of the standard TSM installer, by navigating to
extract directory/COI/PackageSteps/DB2/FILES/ESE/IMAGE

NOTE: extract directory is when you extracted the software to
install

 Example: F:\mydownload\COI\PackageSteps\DB2\FILES\ESE\images

Then you can run setup.exe

 Hi All,

I have a problem when trying to install TSM RM 6.2.0.0 on a Windows
2008 R2 box (newly installed box).
When the installation starts it fails after a minute or so on the
DB2 installation with no reason given. Also no log is created (as
far as I can see) which can aid in determining why the installation
fails.

Can anyone shed some light on this issue?

Met vriendelijke groet, with kind regards,

 Richard van Denzel.

Re: TSM Server Recovery (AIX)

2005-09-20 Thread Lee Miller
You can use the command mksbcd with the software TSM for System Backup and
Recovery aka SysBack which will allow the user
to create a full system bootable and installable system backup to CD/DVD
devices using a ISO9660 (CD/DVD) or UDF (DVD) format.
You can also include additional filesets (device drivers) which could be
installed at the system restore. Once again you would not
need to reinstall your TSM server code, it would be included in this system
backup. The command used is called mksbcd which is similar to the
AIX version called mkcd. The TSM version contains more functionality and
is more flexible than the AIX version.

Here's the process we use:

1) Boot from CD, whatever version you've got (if you have a software
support contract, you can order a media refresh for the current version)

2) Enter maintenance mode from the boot and restore the system from tape
This will restore your mksysb, adding additional hardware
drivers as needed from the boot CD

3) Insert your maintenance CD after the restore completes and update all
to current level -- this will update any drivers pulled from the CD in
step two to your current maintenance level

4) If a bosboot update occurred in step three, reboot.

There's no need to install AIX, update, and then install TSM

Once you go to AIX 5.3 you'll have the option to install all device
drivers to your system image, so you can boot/install from a dvd backup
and not need to grab new drivers from the install CD.

This is more along the lines of AIX server recovery, but it plays into
TSM, too.
Without using addtional software, just AIX, how does one create a boot
CD that contains all the necessary info to restore a server using a
mksysb tape?

I understand the process for recovering an AIX server from a mksysb tape
backup to different hardware would be to boot the server from a CD of
the same OS-ML as the mksysb backup. My TSM server is running on AIX
5200-03. The install media I have is 5200-01. How do I create a boot
CD image (ISO, so I can burn the ISO image using a PC CD-W) that
contains the 5200-03 files so I can recover the TSM server?

My current working documentation requires an install of 5200-01, patch
to -03, and install TSM and then restore the DB. That works OK, but
takes additional time, and still won't get back everything I need to
allow some other node restores to start. I will still have to rebuild
some things from scratch.

Thanks in advance.
