TSM Admin Center interface not working

2011-06-10 Thread Mario Behring
Hi list,

I have TSM Server 5.5.5.0 on a Windows 2008 SP2 box running OK.

I have just installed TSM Admin Center 6.1.0.0 on the same machine. I can logon
using the defaut user, iscadmin, and I was even able to connect to the TSM
Server..but.after that, nothing really works. No option on the Manage
Servers menu is working.after selecting the TSM Server, and selecting any
option from the pull down menu, like "Modify Server Connection" for instance,
nothing happens.

Any other option I choose from the main menu, like "Storage Devices", shows me
a "ANRW0017E The server connection currently does not include the credentials
required to access the server" message.

The problem is that I can´t fix the connection because of what I have just
explained above

I have already tried reinstalling the TSM ACbut nothing changed.

Any help is appreciated.

It should if the virtualm exists when the dsmc command is run, but
you're going to have one of the longest dsm.sys files after a while.
You may want to include something in your script that deletes previous
virtual mount point entries so that doesn't happen.

Hi all,

I have to configure a virtualmountpoint option before some backups. The
directory name, part of it, is formed by a date...and I will have to
append this
line in the dsm.sys file everytime I perform this particular backup.

Here is the script...the TSM Clent is Red Hat...

export ARCHLOG=`date +%d%m%y_backuptape.log`
export DATA=`date --date='1 day ago' +%d%m%y2200`

echo virtualm=/backup/rman/full/$DATA >>
/opt/tivoli/tsm/client/ba/bin/dsm.sys
/opt/tivoli/tsm/client/ba/bin/dsmc i -subdir=yes
-domain="/backup/rman/full/$DATA/*" >> /backup/tsmlogs/$ARCHLOG

my question is, is it going to work? I mean, can I actually alter
the
dsm.sys file and then run the dsmc command immediately after doing
it?usually, dsm always checks filespaces before sendin data to the
TSM
Server.

Virtualmountpoint

2011-02-27 Thread Mario Behring
Hi all,

Is it possible to use variables in the virtualmountpoint option to force the
backup to copy only some specific files? I need to copy Oracle archive files
generated by RMAN in directories created with the date string.

I am specifying the full path in the dsmc command using a $date variablebut
it seems TSM is copying everything instead of only the files in that particular
directory.

Here is the script that calls dsmc:

export ARCHLOG=`date +%d%m%y_backuptape.log`
export DATA=`date --date='1 day ago' +%d%m%y2200`
/opt/tivoli/tsm/client/ba/bin/dsmc incremental -subdir=yes
"/backup/rman/full/$DATA/*"
-optfile=/opt/tivoli/tsm/client/ba/bin/dsm-specific.opt >>
/backup/tsmlogs/$ARCHLOG

Very puzzling - there's something either really obvious or pretty discrete
afoot here preventing this from working. Just out of curiosity, can your TSM
BA Client connect from the source to the target server (and vice versa)? And
the admin client as well?

Hi Mario,

Looks like some detailed double-checking of the config is required - here
goes!

O - As Marcel points out, first you'll need to have an administrative user
registered with the same password upon the source and target TSM Server
instances.

O - Next, the High Level Address (HLA) of the target server needs (visible
in Q SERVER) to be resolvable/pingable from your shell/OS prompt on the
source server.

O - Finally, the Low Level Address (LLA) of the target server (visible in Q
SERVER) needs to be set to the TCPPort upon which the target server is
listening (e.g. visible from Q OPT output on target server).

>>> What about the TCP Port (lladdress)? I´ve configured different tcp ports
in each serveris that correct?

Your source and target TSM Server instances can run on the same TCPPORT if
they're running on different physical servers.

If all of these are in place and there aren't any other factors getting in
the way, PING SERVER commands should work and you'll have a platform for TSM
Server to Server operations.

HTH - let us know how you get on.

Re: Export server error

2010-07-16 Thread Mario Behring
Hi David,

No...it is not successful...check the output below...I am calling the servers
TSM_SOURCE and TSM_TARGET to make this easier:

tsm: TSM_SOURCE>ping server tsm_target
ANR1705W Ping for server 'TSM_TARGET' was not able to establish a connection.
ANS8001I Return code 4.

The same happens the other way around.

What about the TCP Port (lladdress)? I´ve configured different tcp ports in
each
serveris that correct?

Re: Configuring tape library on centOS

2010-07-07 Thread Mario Behring
Hi Xav,

It´s not. CentOS is notbut as it´s RH Enterprise based, usually works
great,
both as TSM Server and Client.

I am trying to install the lin-tape driver...but there are a zillion versions
at
the FTP site and I am not sure which one to use

This is what uname -a shows:

Linux tsmserver 2.6.18-164.el5 #1 SMP Thu Sep 3 03:33:56 EDT 2009 i686 i686
i386
GNU/Linux

Any ideas?

Since you're using an IBM library with LTO-2 drives - go to
ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/storage/devdrvr/Linux/ and use the IBM tape drivers
rather than the TSM device driver.

See http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=663&uid=swg21082581 as well.

I didn't realise CentOS was on the supported list :)

I believe the same question is good for VMware or Hyper-V VMsfor that

Virtual Center ad stuffso we have to come up with something to backup the VM
large files without having to shutdown the VMs

Hi Carol,

That´s precisely the problemthere ARE 3 different file systemsactually
I
have even created 3 different mount points in different physical
disks/tsmdb, /tsmlog and /tsmarchlogthe installation process always
stops at this point through the Java installer.

I also tried the command line approach...but when I issue the dsmserv
loadformat command to create the DB2 database that will receive the data from
the TSM Database from the previous version, the process takes forever, does
nothing and gives me nothing...meaning, no error messages of any sortall
previous steps were executed successfully.

dsmserv loadformat dbdir=/tsmdb activelogsize=16384 activelogdir=/tsmlog
archlogdir=/tsmarchlog

I am using the TSM 6.2 Server Upgrade Guide, Scenario 2 - Same System, Network
Method approach...

Any help is appreciated.

Hi Mario,
It looks like you used the same directory name for one of your database
directories and one of your log directories. You will need a minimum of 3
directories, the data base directory, active log directory and archive log
directory. You can specify multiple data base directories, and also
optionally have mirror log and archive failover log directories, but each
of these must be a different directory.

But there are some prereqs, especially if the exchange server is on 2008. This
is from the help file on the 6.1.1 TDP client itself

Restoring a mailbox (or mailbox items) on Exchange Server 2007
This procedure describes how to restore a mailbox or items from a mailbox on
Exchange Server 2007.

Review these prerequisites before attempting a restore operation:
- Data Protection for Exchange must be operating in an account with membership
in the Exchange Organization Administrators group. By default, Windows adds the
Exchange Organization Administrators group to other security groups, such as
the local Administrators and Exchange Recipient Administrators groups. If these
default settings change, the account must be manually added to these other
groups.
- The account must have an active Exchange mailbox in the domain.
- Temporary space is needed to accommodate the mailbox database during restore
operations. Specify this temporary space from the File Menu by clicking Edit ->
Configuration -> General Tab or click to set these two options:
Temporary Log Restore Path
Temporary Database Restore Path
If a directory is not specified, the database files are restored into a
directory specified by the environment variable TEMP.

- On Windows Server 2008, Microsoft Exchange Server Messaging API (MAPI) Client
and Collaboration Data Objects 1.2.1 or later must be installed on the machine
on which the Exchange server is running. If a recovery server is being used,
the MAPI must be installed on both the production Exchange server and the
optional recovery server.

Data Protection for Exchange version 6.1.1 has "mailbox restore"
functionality
for legacy backups for Exchange 2003 and Exchange 2007
and from VSS backups for Exchange 2007.
You ran restore a user's entire mailbox or a subset of items from
a user's mailbox based on a filter. You can send the recovered
items to the user's mailbox, another user's mailbox, or to a .PST file.

Did you pursue the codes in the Messages manual? They tell of a llegal request
/ medium removal prevented condition. This may resolve to a device driver
issue, as previously outlined in postings on this library. If one tape drive
is working fine but not the other, check the firmware levels on them, where the
problem one may well be at a lower level. A firmware defect can result in
timing issues, such that a tape dismount may be rejected as too early in a
mechanical/electronic process. Also double-check element numbers to assure
that the drive is being addressed correctly. You may want to exercise the
drive via NTUTIL or the like, to verify functionality.

2010-02-26 Thread Mario Behring
Geoff,

There are 2 drives defined.DRIVE01 and DRIVE02.

DRIVE02 is connected via SCSI cable to the SCSI controller at the TSM Server.
DRIVE01 is connected to DRIVE02 (cascade) and has a SCSI termination on it.

How are these drives connected? Have you done any port/cable swapping to see if

Also...about this volser mode...how do I check if it is 6 or 8...and how do I
change it, if needed?

We don't have the context on whether this has been working for you and
then stopped working, or whether you are trying something new, or
whether this is a problem with other types of operations on tape in
that library, or may be isolated to specific cartridges in that library.

I'd start by checking the device class assigned to your TSM db
backups, and assure that the drive type is consistent with the "L3"
tape at issue. You can take a look at Technote 1303094 to see if that
pertains. We don't know your library type, but possibly it is
configured such that it's operating in a 6-char volser mode rather
than 8, so the L3 is not being conveyed to TSM for media type to be
known.

Re: Exchange SCR or CCR Clustering

2010-02-22 Thread Mario Behring
Del,

I´ve checked with the Exch guysthe configuration is SCC.but the Legacy
backup is behaving like I´ve told you before.there is no error, but it
copies nothing.

The strange thing for me is why the checkbox from the Mailbox Database from
First Storage Group and Second Storage Group on the Backup window appears with
an X instead of unchecked.

I believe this maybe the reason the backup is not copying anything.I just
don´t know how to change thisor even if this is something to be
solved on the TDP side or on the Exchange itself

Mario,

About CCR vs. SCR vs. SCC. Ask your Exchange Admin. They will know. :-)

Microsoft does not support "legacy" backups from a CCR passive
or SCR replicas. In order to perform a VSS backup from the
passive node of a CCR cluster, you must either have TSM for Copy Services
or FlashCopy Manager in order to the activate VSS backups feature.

Thanks,

Exchange SCR or CCR Clustering

2010-02-22 Thread Mario Behring
Hi list,

How do I know if the Exchange 2007 running on a MSCS 2 node configuration is
configured as SCR or CCR?

The TDP for Exchange is connecting to the Exchange Information Store and I can
see the mail databases, but VSS backup option is disabled and the Mailbox
Database checkbox is marked with an X..so I cannot perform a Legacy
Backup.

Actually, the Legacy backup starts and finishes almost instantly.and copies
nothing

Thanks in advance

Mario,

Are you running with Exchange SCC or CCR clustering?
Does this command work?

TDPEXCC QUERY EXCHANGE /EXCSERVER=exc-virt-server-name

where "exc-virt-server-name" is the Exchange virtual server name
if you are running with Exchange Server 2007 SCC clustering.

2010-01-24 Thread Mario Behring
Hi Harry...and all who answered to this

I went through all this permission checking and password and many stuff several
times with no success.

Turns out that the problem was about LICENSE ! The agent.lic file was not
there...probably because I downloaded the TDP agent from the FTP websiteand
there is no License Package thereat least on the version I´ve got.

Anyway...I downloaded some other version from the IBM PartnerWorld website (a
Base version) and installed only the license package.

It´s working now.

Thank you all.

Hi,

I am almost sure there is tdpoerror.log in your /opt/tivoli/tsm/client/api/bin
and this must be set to be writeable by oracle user (I suggest chmod 666
/opt/tivoli/tsm/client/api/bin/tdpoerror.log)

Hi Len,

The link was created with Oracle down.

Also, I checked permission issues regarding the oracle user...like read/write
permission on dsmerrorl.log file (in my case located in /var/log).

I changed the permission on /opt/tivoli/tsm/client/oracle and
/opt/tivoli/tsm/client/ba directories with the _R option to allow the oracle
user to read/write/execute

But nothing seems to workthe error persists...

Any ideas?

Good Day Mario,

After the link was created did you bounce the oracle data base. I am not sure
if it has changed, or different with the latest TSM client. But I was told that
the Oracle data base loads the libobk.so when it starts up and unless you
bounce Oracle it will not reload the file to pick up the tsm supplied copy.
Also is this a 32bit or 64bit instance of the Oracle data base.

A look on google seems to indicate that the problem may be a permissions
problem with the tsm log files.
One of the urls to look at is
http://linuxshellaccount.blogspot.com/2007/11/tsm-backups-most-misleading-error.html

Also look at

What os is the node? I am assuming unix/linux?

If so, you can define a different server stanza in dsm.sys, then different
client stanzas in dsm.opt with different names.
Specify different passworddir entries so that the generated passwords do not
become confused.

If you are doing this, I can send you an example tomorrow.

You may want to consider an EXPORT NODE operation of the TDP node's data to the
target TSM server.

Backing up EVA storage without TSM Clients

2009-12-03 Thread Mario Behring
Hi list,

I have an EVA Storage that I need to backup because of a hardware upgrade that
will take place.

I was thinking about using TSM to backup all data on this Storage before the
EVA hardware upgrade.

My question isthere are many servers connected on this Storage using its
disks.how can I use TSM to backup all data on the storage without having to
install TSM Clients on every server that uses it? Consider that there are
several VMware virual machines that also have its data on this EVA storage.

Can I backup the data directly from the EVA using TSM? Is there any other TSM
product that does that?

Any help is appreciated.

ANR9999D error - need to extend LOG

I am trying to extend the LOG using the DSMSERV EXTEND LOG command, but I need
to create the volume previous to running this command. On Unix/Linux I would
use the DSMFMT command, but I can´t find this utility anywhere on the TSM
Windows server...

Is it missing or it doesn´t exist? If so, how can I create a volume so I can
extend the LOG? I tried DSMSERV FORMAT, but looks like this command is only for
fresh installations, as it obligates me to create a DB as well...

Any help is appreciated.

backups not using DISKPOOL

2009-08-12 Thread Mario Behring
Hi list,

Recently I had to remove the DISKPOOL due to some reorganization at the
Storage. I migrated all data to tape and altered all Copygroups to point backup
and archive operations direct to TAPEPOOL. Everything worked fine.

Now I have the DISKPOOL created again and all volumes ONLINE. Once again I
changed all Copygroups, the DESTINATION parameter, to DISKPOOL and NEXT Storage
Pool to TAPEPOOL.

The problem is...scheduled bakups and archive are ignoring the DISKPOOL and are
still sending data directly to tape

I double checked all Copygroups and activated all Policy Sets to make sure the
alterations are ACTIVE.

What could be missing?

You didn't provide context on the error... If this is s new library,
review that you have implemented the right driver. If a prevailing
library, look back in the TSM Activity Log and Windows Event Log for
perspective on the start of the problem. Check the library physical
status from its panels or web pages. Use OS environment commands to
test the ability to use the library from that level.

Backup Stgpool using 2 drives taking too long

2009-08-03 Thread Mario Behring
Hi list,

The environment is TSM Server 5.5 running on a Windows 2003 box with a IBM
ULT3580-TD4 SCSI (2 drives) connected.

There is a backup stgpool process running on background for more than 12 hours
(several schedules were missed during this time).

The process is using both drives, one reading the data and the other writing,
as expected. The problem is that, at some point, both drives stay IDLE for more
than 20 minutes...then start reading/writing again (for a short time I might
add).

The process would be long over by now if this was not happening...what could be
wrong and how can I put the drives to work non-stop, if possible...??

Any process that uses both drives in this fashion, like an EXPORT for example,
is behaving the same way...

Thanks

Re: SV: Library unavailable

Hi,

I am using the command line. As for the serial number, I´ll remove the defined
library and redefine it without using this clause, and then create the
path...and see what happens.

I´ve already removed TSM and reinstalled it.

The IBMtaped daemon is up and running. IBMtaped version is 1.5.3 and I ran the
IBMtapeutil facility to check the Media Changer and Drives and everything seems
to be ok, at least at OS level.

Hi,
I normally don't use the ISC or WebGUI to define any drives or libraries.
But you need to define the path between.

Another thing I see is that the Serial number that you specify on both strings
is different.
Try to use the command line instead of the GUI,

>define libr LIBLT01 libtype=SCSI
>define path TSMSERVER liblt01 srct=server destt=libr device=/dev/X
>define dr liblt0 DRIVE0
>define path TSMSERVER drive0 srct=server destt=dr libr=liblt01 device=/dev/
>define dr liblt0 DRIVE1
>define path TSMSERVER drive1 srct=server destt=dr libr=liblt01 device=/dev/
>define dr liblt0 DRIVE2
>define path TSMSERVER drive2 srct=server destt=dr libr=liblt01 device=/dev/

If it still don't work. Make a search in the message file for your drives or
look in /proc for more information.
You maybe also need to upgrade your drivers for your IBM drives.

The library is an IBM ULT3583-TL with 3 drives. TSM is 5.2.2.2 running on Linux
SuSE. I cannot upgrade it due to license issues...not at this time anyway.

TSM Server was running fine until a week ago when it stopped at some
point...not clear to me. I removed it completely and I am trying to install it
again, but it keeps telling me the library is unavailable. The TSM Device
Driver was installed, but I believe it was not being used because it does not
support the current Linux Kernel version.

tsmlinux:/opt/tivoli/tsm/devices/bin # ./tsmscsi
TSM device driver not available for kernel release 2.4.21-241-smp

Any help is appreciated.

Backup of Hyper-V Windows virtual machines

2009-06-25 Thread Mario Behring
Hi all,

Does anybody know if there is a special TSM Client, or TDP for that matter, to
backup Microsoft Hyper-V virtual machines while they are running? I didn´t find
anything at IBM product webpage...

Any ideas on how to accomplish that with TSM?

Thanks

Mario
