Re: versioning / expiring / multiple backups under same nodename

2002-01-18 Thread Mike Yager

Exactly, while im not doing TSM on my clusters (yet) Daniel is correct.

In my MS-clustered environment, I have the following entries in DNS

SRV01
SRV02

CLUSTER1
DB2-01

the last 2 are a "logical" name of the cluster resource. This allows the "resource" to
be managed separately from the physical machine or other "resources" and/or physical
machine.

I would caution you to be careful as you indicated the resources DO show up as being
owned by the controlling node. IE DON'T back it up via that attachment even if you can
see it as when it changes to a new node you will have a different name as you
mentioned

Please keep us posted as I'll be headed down this road shortly.

The description you gave tells me there is something wrong with your
configuration.

Normally when you set up TSM to handle clustering, you have one TSM
nodename for each clusternode(M1,M2,M3). These nodenames are only for
backing up local files on the node. Then you have either one nodename for
each clusterresource, or one nodename for all clusterresources. You also
have to bind the nodename to the clusterresource, so that the TSM service
that handles the cluster nodename, moves with the clusterresource.

Re: LTO tape visible labels

2002-01-17 Thread Mike Yager

I (the customer) has a 3583 library and I went through the same issues. Many of our
LTO tapes had been ordered via other projects and were not ordered via a library
option number therefor didn't come with bar codes.

I found a free code 39 (also called 3 of 9) font that close in size to what I needed.
I installed it to my workstation. I then made an excel spread sheet with my readable
"human" text and the corresponding machine text following all the LTO guidelines. I
did a mail merge with word/excel and made some "mailing labels". I used Avery 6870
labels.

They are read properly about 98% of the time and have found the door slot the position
that fails the most. I think its the light and/or angle on it. able seems to stick ok
and hey I can make more.

The thing I like most is I have control over the labels and can use different
identifiers on them (or colors) that suit our needs here.

email me off line if you need more info.

We are starting to install IBM 3584 library. As we are sending tapes offsite, I
would like to implement some additional tracking/audit/security of our offsite tapes
with the new tapes. (Make sure ours don't get mixed with others etc.)

I know you are not supposed to put labels on the LTO tapes other than the
barcode that comes with them. I figured someone must use some method to
"label" their tapes with company name or similar.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
David Longo

Re: Error while Updating LTO micro code.

2001-11-19 Thread Mike Yager

hi,

ive been lurking for a while and can finally contribute.

1) the updated directions on the IBM LTO web site are very clear and straight forward,
with lots of screen shots.

http://ssddom02.storage.ibm.com/tape/lto/faqs/ntupdt3583fmr.html

http://ssddom02.storage.ibm.com/tape/lto/faqs/ntupdtfmr.html

web page does better job than i can describing what to do.

But, I think your problem might simply be you need to select #1 for Read/Write NOT
#2 as it is for Read Only

good luck

Hi All,

I am having a severe problem in performance of the LTO it is as low as
5Gb/Hr. I was suggested to upgrade the Drive micro code (originally it was
0BN1). I upgraded the LTO library micro code 2.62.0001 successfully thru
serial cable. When I attempt to upgrade Drive0 Micro code it gave the
following error:

  enter selection : 20
Enter open mode <1> RW <2> RO: 2
special file <\\.\tape0> will be opened
Error: THE SYSTEM CANNOT FIND THE FILE SPECIFIED.
analyze <> called with rc err 2 DATA 0
analyze conclusion ... ERROR not as expected
  ERROR, test failed!
In fact i have stopped the device drivers of the tape device before I start
NTUTIL. I have even tried with device drivers in started mode also.
LTO model : 3583
with one tape drive.
With out any optional modules.

I thought of calling IBM since the device is in warranty but in India they
will take their own course of time. If any one help me out in this regards
will be of great help.
