Re: TSM Server Upgrade to 5.1
Hi Its simple - take the backup of tsm database ( can be useful to revert back in case of any probelm during upgradation ) - Prepare the document on how to revert back to 4.2.1 - Note the base directories of the existing TSM - uninstall TSM 4.2.1 - Install TSM 5.1 ( upgrade db will run automatically during upgradation ) Specify the same base directories as noted above when prompted - login as admin - take the TSM database backup. Its not must to upgrade the clients to 5.1. If you want to make use new features of TSM 5.1 client ( Check the readme files) upgrade to 5.1 clients. ( You can find more information on quick start pdf) Regards Raghu S Nivas Crawford, Lindy To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] lcrawford@BOECcc: ORP.CO.ZA Subject: TSM Server Upgrade to 5.1 Sent by: ADSM: Dist Stor Manager [EMAIL PROTECTED] ST.EDU 08/19/2002 08:42 PM Please respond to ADSM: Dist Stor Manager Hi TSMers, Please can you assist me. Re: Parallel Backup Paths for TDP R/3
Hi Joel TDP for R/3 is working properly with the existing configuration in your initPV1.utl file. You can check by issuing q sess while backup are in progress. You can only find 7 sessions of production backup. If you want to use the second adapter card for performance improvement do the following changes in e:\oracle\PV1\817\database\initPV1.utl file ( I assumed 8 drives are there in your library ). MAX_SESSIONS 8 SERVERserver_a # Servername SESSIONS4 # Max sessions PASSWORDREQUIREDYES # Use a password ADSMNODE PV1 BRBACKUPMGTCLASSDB# Mgmt-Classes BRARCHIVEMGTCLASS LOG # Mgmt-Classes SERVER server_b# Servername SESSIONS4# Max sessions PASSWORDREQUIREDYES # Use a password ADSMNODE PV1 # Tivoli Storage Manager Nodename BRBACKUPMGTCLASSDB# Mgmt-Classes BRARCHIVEMGTCLASS LOG # Mgmt-Classes in this case both the adaptercards will be used. If you want to use the second adapter card for disaster recovery( second card as spare) do the following changes in e:\oracle\PV1\817\database\initPV1.utl file ( I assumed 8 drives are there in your library ). MAX_SESSIONS 8 SERVERserver_a # Servername SESSIONS8 # Max sessions PASSWORDREQUIREDYES # Use a password ADSMNODE PV1 BRBACKUPMGTCLASSDB# Mgmt-Classes BRARCHIVEMGTCLASS LOG # Mgmt-Classes SERVER server_b# Servername SESSIONS8# Max sessions PASSWORDREQUIREDYES # Use a password ADSMNODE PV1 # Tivoli Storage Manager Nodename BRBACKUPMGTCLASSDB# Mgmt-Classes BRARCHIVEMGTCLASS LOG # Mgmt-Classes in this case only first adapter card will be used.If the first card is down, the second card will be used. The server timed out waiting for a mount of an offline volume. refers to mounting a sequential acess media? If my assumption is correct, under what conditions should a backup process request a server media mount? I am getting ANS1312E for a node which goes to a disk storage pool which has a max size threshold of NOLIMIT. I would not expect it ever to request a server media mount. Any ideas? David EHresman
Re: failed brrestore deleted my entire SAP database
Its recommened to use SAPDBA fot restoration. If you use BRRRESTORE command ,it prompts the destination directory.First restore to separate directory and then move the files.Otherwise your existing files will be overwritten. Tom, You are right. Unless you hav LOTS of excess disk. If your SAP configuration is valid, you'll have a technical sandbox. Use it. Learn how brrestore and brbackup REALLY work. Document your procedures, and FOLLOW them. The down side to using sapdba is the requirement for interaction, along with SAP's continuous changing of the sub-menus. We usually restrict the backups to the C:\My Documents folder by having appropriate INCLEXCL statements in the server's CLIENTOPT set. This has been working just fine for Windows 98 clients. However, with Windows XP clients I have been unable to obtain this desired restricted backup policy. I did install the TSM client 4.2.2.0, following the advice on the ADSM list, so Windows XP support should be OK. I have done many experiments with the INCLEXCL options, and I believe that the following options in the server or client should work: EXCLUDE.DIR C:\* INCLUDE C:\Documents and Settings\...\*.* The second line backs up documents, whereas the first line excludes everything else. However, on Windows XP the first line apparently supercedes the second line, and nothing whatsoever gets backed up !! I think this is a fundamental kind of bug. Can anyone explain why the above example doesn't work as expected ? Even better, how do I achieve the policy of backing up only the Documents and Settings folders ? Thanks a lot, Ole Holm Nielsen Department of Physics Technical University of Denmark
