HI Rainer,

In ISP versions earlier than 8.1.2, the value for the parameter SSLREQUIRED
with the "update noded" command could only get changed with "System Level
Authority", although other changes could be made with "Unrestricted Policy
Priviledge". (This is still documented within the latest documentation)

Since the SSLREQUIRED parameter became the status "depricated" since version
8.1.2, because the SESSIONSECURITY parameter is now used.

To modify the value for the SESSIONSECURITY parameter (analogous to the
previous SSLREQUIRED), the "System Authority" is required.
(This is missing within the latest documentation)

Regards, Uwe

does anybody know why an

ANR2035E UPDATE NODE: Administrator admin_name is not
authorized to issue this command.

even though the admin is having unrestricted policy privileges?

Hi Remco,

you're right, the severity inside TSM is not applied to the severity
within SYSLOG.
If IBM would do so I would have one problem less to tackle with ;-)
Maybe time for an RFE ;-)

Rainer

Hi Rainer,

I’m now guessing all are of sev. info, not reflecting the severity within
TSM… well, I guess there must always be something left to improve upon ;-)

Thanks.

I can confirm IBM's information.
SYSLOG records are coming in via syslog facility 'user' and severity

Hi all,

for those of us who are interested, I haven’t been able to confirm, but
IBM support told me the syslog facility is ’USER’, for better/easier

Gesendet von: "ADSM: Dist Stor Manager"

Just upgrade a TSM server from 6.3.5 to 7.1.5 on AIX.

This morning our Oracle DBA's are reporting this error:
ANS1708E Backup operation failed. Only a root user can do this operation<
http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21651108>

And on the TSM server we see:
ANR1890W Backup operation for session 8549 node failed due to
root-only restriction<
http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21651108>

The Oracle DBA's run Oracle backups to disk, then call dsmc to push the
backup to TSM. They do this AS THE ORACLE USER, not root.

I found a IBM doc that said to set the node parm "Users allowed to back <
http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21651108> up" from root
to ALL. I checked, and all the nodes that had this problem _ARE_ set to
ALL.
  doc: http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21651108

Any thougts are welcome!

Hello all!

I'm trying to help a remote admin that is trying to exclude/include things
in windows filesystem for a scheduled monthly archive.

I will admit that I am not very familiar at all with how windows excludes
work, so I have not been much help, so I am asking the gurus!

He has a windows filesystem: \\ed-files\v$\webs and he only wants to
archive certain files. Here is the relevant part of the opt file:

EXCLUDE.ARCHIVE "*.*"
EXCLUDE.ARCHIVE "\\ed-files\v$\webs\...\*"
INCLUDE.ARCHIVE "\\ed-files\v$\webs\cdl\html\...\*" 2YRLOCAL
INCLUDE.ARCHIVE "\\ed-files\v$\webs\ceep\html\...\*" 2YRLOCAL
INCLUDE.ARCHIVE "\\ed-files\v$\webs\clas\html\...\*" 2YRLOCAL
INCLUDE.ARCHIVE "\\ed-files\v$\webs\dell-d\html\...\*" 2YRLOCAL
INCLUDE.ARCHIVE "\\ed-files\v$\webs\ecap\html\...\*" 2YRLOCAL
INCLUDE.ARCHIVE "\\ed-files\v$\webs\ecrp\html\...\*" 2YRLOCAL
INCLUDE.ARCHIVE "\\ed-files\v$\webs\eic\html\...\*" 2YRLOCAL
INCLUDE.ARCHIVE "\\ed-files\v$\webs\facts\html\...\*" 2YRLOCAL
INCLUDE.ARCHIVE "\\ed-files\v$\webs\idec\html\...\*" 2YRLOCAL
INCLUDE.ARCHIVE "\\ed-files\v$\webs\iecam\html\...\*" 2YRLOCAL
INCLUDE.ARCHIVE "\\ed-files\v$\webs\iecamintranet\html\...\*" 2YRLOCAL
INCLUDE.ARCHIVE "\\ed-files\v$\webs\iel\html\...\*" 2YRLOCAL
INCLUDE.ARCHIVE "\\ed-files\v$\webs\illinoisparents\html\...\*" 2YRLOCAL
INCLUDE.ARCHIVE "\\ed-files\v$\webs\illinoispip\html\...\*" 2YRLOCAL
INCLUDE.ARCHIVE "\\ed-files\v$\webs\intranet\html\...\*" 2YRLOCAL
INCLUDE.ARCHIVE "\\ed-files\v$\webs\i-parents\html\...\*" 2YRLOCAL
INCLUDE.ARCHIVE "\\ed-files\v$\webs\npen\html\...\*" 2YRLOCAL
INCLUDE.ARCHIVE "\\ed-files\v$\webs\readyweb\html\...\*" 2YRLOCAL
INCLUDE.ARCHIVE "\\ed-files\v$\webs\resnet\html\...\*" 2YRLOCAL
INCLUDE.ARCHIVE "\\ed-files\v$\webs\sharingavision\html\...\*" 2YRLOCAL

query inclexcl where 'webs' shows up is below:

Include Archive \\ed-files\webs\sharingavision\html\...\* dsm.opt
Include Archive \\ed-files\webs\resnet\html\...\* dsm.opt
Include Archive \\ed-files\webs\readyweb\html\...\* dsm.opt
Include Archive \\ed-files\webs\npen\html\...\* dsm.opt

Include Archive \\ed-files\webs\intranet\html\...\* dsm.opt
Include Archive \\ed-files\webs\illinoispip\html\...\* dsm.opt
Include Archive \\ed-files\webs\illinoisparents\html\...\* dsm.opt
Include Archive \\ed-files\webs\iel\html\...\* dsm.opt
Include Archive \\ed-files\webs\iecamintranet\html\...\* dsm.opt
Include Archive \\ed-files\webs\iecam\html\...\* dsm.opt
Include Archive \\ed-files\webs\idec\html\...\* dsm.opt
Include Archive \\ed-files\webs\facts\html\...\* dsm.opt
Include Archive \\ed-files\webs\eic\html\...\* dsm.opt
Include Archive \\ed-files\webs\ecrp\html\...\* dsm.opt
Include Archive \\ed-files\webs\ecap\html\...\* dsm.opt
Include Archive \\ed-files\webs\dell-d\html\...\* dsm.opt

Include Archive \\ed-files\webs\ceep\html\...\* dsm.opt
Include Archive \\ed-files\webs\cdl\html\...\* dsm.opt

When the archive gets run by the scheduler, the only thing that gets
archived
is the directory \\ed-files\v$\webs and no files.

So, what is the best way to accomplish this.

Thanks as always!

Hi,
I have an ACSLS setup with a client and a library manager and get
mount failures, but the tape actually mounts. If you look at the activity
log for the volume below you can see this. It seems like it is not
waiting long enough for an acknowledgement back to the Library manager. Is
there a specific ACSLS attribute where I can increase a timeout of
requests to the library, or am I missing something else?

Hello

I today installed on one of my client the
“7.1.1.000-TIV-TSMCMS-Windows64.exe” , when the installation finished I
saw in the services the new service name:

« Tivoli Storage Manager Client Management Services » in status Started
an Automatic.

When from my Operations Center version 7.1.1.0 I load Diagnosis under
the section Clients I got always:

“There are no recommendations available. For more information, see the
Tivoli Storage Manager Documentation.”

On the below part of the window, client Logs show nothing.

Don’t quite understand the purpose , I think I missed something . I though
with this utility I can review logs without logging to the system as with
TSMmanager.

Anybody test it and advise …

[rant on]
First off, I want to say how much I hate the new V7 installation package
process. It seems IBM is expecting everyone to use a GUI interface and
the
console version has become even more cumbersome. We don't all have
console/GUI access and getting into GUI mode and root via sudo requires a
multi-step process and is a pain.
[rant off]

Second, I used to be able to ps -ef | grep TIV to find the TSM server
package names and versions. This no longer work. So, now what is it
called?

2014-02-04 Thread Rainer Holzinger
Hi there,

this is what I did implement at customer sites:
Include-Exclude Options File inclexcl.ora_sid.opt used by TDP for Oracle
Unix
Example of a TSM include/exclude file
*==*
* TDPO Client Include/Exclude File - testdb - *
*==*

Exclude *

include.file/TDPO-testdb/.../*.rdb mc-oracle-db
include.file/TDPO-testdb/.../*.rctl mc-oracle-log
include.file/TDPO-testdb/.../*.rarc mc-oracle-log

The suffix of the different type of RMAN objects coming along have been
given to me by the
Oracle admins. They are having a possibility inside of RMAN to use some
kind of 'format'
parameter to 'construct' teh object (piece) names.

Hope this helps.

I believe you can also configure RMAN to format the object names
differently
for different backup types. If so, you could tailor include statements to
direct the different types to different management classes and still just
use
one tdpo.opt and dsm.opt.

The differenciation between db-backups and log-backups are done in the
rman-script. In one you do a backup database, in the other a backup
 archivelogs.
You have to have two different scripts, or close and open the channels
in between. Each open channel sources a different tdpo.opt which calls
a different dsm.opt. During the backup database, some archivelogs will
also be backed up, but this might not be the problem in this construct.

Does anyone know if it's possible to do the main DB LAN Free and

so a disk pool is a better destination.

The Oracle nodes are AIX if that makes a difference.

Hi Eric,

which TSM Server level did you install?
I noticed this from TSM Server levels before 6.3 as well, as there has
been the
possibiliy to use IOCP or TCP/IP for communications between thze TSM
Server and
DB2. Default was to use IOCP there, TCP/IP had to be done manually.
Since TSM V6.3 TCP/IP is used by default to prevent the communication
limit
of max. 1024 sessions for ICOP.
The message you are getting is nothing serious, even if it's a warning.

Hope this helps.

Hi TSM-ers!

I installed two new servers on AIX and both are working fine. The only
thing I notice is the following message at server startup:

ANR8235W This server is not configured to use TCP/IP to connect to the
database manager.

I can't find anything useful on the IBM web site, only cases where this
message was presented and the server couldn't be started. My servers are
running fine!

To make is even more confusing, this is what's in the Messages guide:

ANR8235W (Windows): Requested number of NETBIOS sessions are not
available on adapter network adapter number, proceeding with available
sessions.

So one message id seems to be used for two different reasons???

Thanks for any help in advance!

Yes, but it is the same through installation wizard too.

Do you have the same version on linux? does it work for you?

 Thanks

Hi,
this is what I said yesterday.
dsmserv load is o.k. from installation point of view. From migration point of
view you need to do dsmserv loadformat which creates an empty DB.

Thanks to all for your assistance.
Got the insert to run finally. I cut and pasted examples from the upgrade
guide. The examples were incorrect. They ran dsmserv format not dsmserv
loadformat.

I somehow overlooked the load.

Changed that and all is wel. Now to check the new tsm instance against our
existing production server to see how well the upgrade went.

Again, thanks all.

AW: [ADSM-L] 5.5.4 to 6.2.4 upgrade problem

2013-02-28 Thread Rainer Holzinger
Hi Gary,

most likely this is caused by the way you formatted your new TSM V6 db.
If you plan to do an 'insertdb' you have to format your new TSMV6 db by
using

DSMSERV LOADFORMAT ...

which creates an empty database that is required by 'insertdb'.

3. insured that devconfig file existed and contained devclass info for the

The 6.3 server comes with a tool called the prerequisite checker, which

manual, it states:

Ensure that the appropriate installation package is downloaded and that
its files are extracted. A prerequisite checker is part of the
installation package.

It says extracted, so not installed. However, if I download the 6.3

installed as far as I know, right? So how do I just extract the
prerequisite checker from this package?

Rainer -

Your posting doesn't say exactly how you downloaded the bin file. Problems
using software downloaded with FTP are commonly due to the download not
having been performed in Binary mode. Given that the bin file has a Feb 28
date, I would expect it to be in good condition (but nothing in life is

After the extract finished there is at least no 'install.bin' file existing,
but I guess a lot of other files are missed as well. I tried the download
and scp a couple of times but the extract was without success all the time.
I even tried on different AIX servers. The byte count is the same at the ftp
site, downloaded file to Win XP and the scp'ed file.

Any idea what could cause the extract error?

Thanks in advance,

Richard,

you might be right, I didn't take this simple fact into account.
I just installed 'FireFTP' from Mozilla Firefox and started the download

Thanks so far,

Rainer -

Your posting doesn't say exactly how you downloaded the bin file. Problems
using software downloaded with FTP are commonly due to the download not
having been performed in Binary mode. Given that the bin file has a Feb 28
date, I would expect it to be in good condition (but nothing in life is

DELETE VOLHISTORY todate=today volume=your-volume-number type=remote

You still might need to change the volume status to scratch on the LM

Rainer, I don't think the 6.2.3 client for windows if fit for

use. I would go back to 6.2.2. It has shown all kinds of weirdness
 for
me. If you run a scheduled command using c:\progra~1\tivoli\tsm
 it'll
change it to C:\progra\~1\tivoli\tsm, and it didn't help on the vmdk
backup situation either. So, I'd say try the 6.2.2, and see if it
performs like you expect, and stick with that until they come out with
 6.2.4 or 6.3. :D

since TDP for Oracle version 5.5.1 on Unix systems

No, it's not different, Oracle TDP works the same on Linux and AIX.
The only TDP I'm not sure of is the Windows version, but if I remember

For the Oracle TDP on AIX you have to set the passwordaccess option to
prompt, as the TDP will NOT update the password. The best option here
is to set the password expiration to 0 on both the node, and the admin
owner (if you have it) of the node.

However, what Daniel said is correct unless you run update node
 server-oracle passexp=0 AND update admin server-oracle passexp=0,
then it will just keep on using the same password.

 Hi David

Correct me if I'm wrong, but when the nodes password has expired,
passwordaccess generate will not set a new password for the client.
You'll have to set a new password for the node, and then use tdpoconf
to update the stored password on the client machine.

Windows server 2008 R2 - DR tests

2011-03-07 Thread Rainer Holzinger
Hi,

I'm about to perform a complete DR test with a Windows 2008 R2 cluster
running a MSSQL server 2008 R2.

On this MS cluster TSM B/A client version 6.2.2.0 and TDP for MSSQL
version 5.5.5,0 is installed, configured and working well.

First scenario is to destroy one cluster node and try to get it back to
the cluster. Therefore I have checked a couple of things and found
something which I'm not sure how it's working. In this Win2008 R2
cluster here is the cluster software and configuration stored under
C:\WNDOWS\CLUSTER.

There are subdirectories and files below C:\WINDOWS\CLUSTER. For those I
have now checked their availability for restore with the TSM B/A
client's restore function and was surprised. On file system level there
are directories 'C:\WINDOWS\CLUSTER\en' and 'C:\WINDOWS\CLUSTER\en-US'
and files in both subdirectories, but the TSM B/A client only displays
the directories, no files are being displayed for restore. IN
'C:\WINDOWS\CLUSTER\Reports' all is fine, I can see in the restore
window the same as on file system level. The same is on
'C:\WINDOWS\CLUSTER', where most of the files cannot be seen in the
restore window. Common to all 'missed' files under 'C:\WINDOWS\CLUSTER_
is that those are DLL's.

I guess that all the files I'm missing form 'C:\WINDOWS\CLUSTER' are
part of the system state backup, but how can I verify that? And what
decides that some dll's are part of the file system backup and others
are part of the system state backup?

Any information that helps 'to see daylight' is welcome.

Best regards,

Rainer

allows incoming and outgoing traffic from ports 1590 and 1591 which have

working now perfect.

Thanks a log for the good hint how to solve this issue.

This is a classic description of a firewall blocking tsm from reaching
the client cad. Unless you have a webports statement in you client
options (dsm.opt for windows), dsmcad uses a random port. So in a
firewalled world, you have to use webports to specify the port and
 then
allow that port in your firewall. dsmwebcl.log on the client shows
 you
at dsmcad startup time which port it is using.

 Hello all,

I'm having 3 new Windwos 2008 R2 (64-bit) servers with TSM for Windows
 cleitn version 6.2.2.0 installed.

The TSM clients are within a DMZ as well as the TSM servers. TSM
 client
acceptor daemon is implemented to manage the TSM cleitn scheduler as
well as the WEB client. On all three machines there is MS ForeFront
 2010
upgrade 2 installed which is a MS firewall, most likely replaceing the
 formerly ISA product from Microsoft.

All three TSM clients are configured with 'schedule mode = prompted'.
For some unkonwn reason the TSM server is not prompting the TSM
 clients
to start the backlup operations. However, when I'm restarting the TSM
CAD service the backup begins, but just this one. Later scheduled
backups do not start again as before. So it looks like only the TSM
client is able to start a session with the TSM server. We have applied
some 'inbound rules' aleady to the MS ForeFront configuration to allow
all traffic for the backup network, tcpip ports 1500-1599 and the
 whole
backup network as well without any success. We have also de-installed
the MS ForeFront software again to see is this is really causing the
problem. Without MS ForeFront, no problem.

Is there anybody out there, using this or a similar environemt who had
experienced the same problems or better is abel to provide a solution
 or
 further debigging hints?

Thanks in advance and have nice weekend,

 Rainer

Re: TSM for Windows (2008 R2) client 6.2.2.0 and ForeFront 2010 upd.2

Hi Andy,

thanks for this hint, I have tried this already.
It looks like the MS ForeFront doesn't care about definitions that have
been made in normal 'Windows 2008 Firewall with Advanced Security'.

If you look at your firewall logs you will see that the see the
connection from the TSM server is being dropped. Be sure to add the
CAD to the firewall. We had this problem when we first started
 backing up 2008 servers.

** use at your own risk **
This is useful for punching holes in the MS firewall on 2008:
netsh advfirewall firewall add rule name=IBM Tivoli Storage Manager
 CAD dir=in program=C:\program files\tivoli\tsm\baclient\dsmcad.exe
 action=allow

 ForeFront 2010 upd.2

However, actually it was my intention to ask about the JBB tools, like

Unfortunately I haven't found any JBB tools anymore on IBM's ftp

Any idea where I could find the JBB tools for TSM for Windows clients

Re: Windows server 2008 cluster db backup

2010-10-27 Thread Rainer Holzinger
Hello Rick,

very welcome and very useful information.
I found the 'Cluster Database' as a 256 KB object in 'SystemState' as
you said.
However, there's a quorum disk as well with some '*hive*' files.
According to our Windows admin, these don't need to be backed up.

Thanks again and best regards,
Rainer

In 2008 the cluster config and cluster db are backed up via VSS, as a
part of the systemstate. We are just now moving to 2008 so I haven't
done any testing with it yet to see how/if TSM has a recommended
solution. However, seeing that it is part of the SS you should be able
to test it by running a backup and then either querying the components
of the system state (or use the GUI) to see if it is present.

 On another note:
Many opinions are that in most cases there is little need to restore
 the
clusterdb from backup since 2008 clusters use the Majority Node Set
model. This means that instead of the cluster config db being on a
quorum drive each node of the cluster has its own copy locally, as
 well
as backup copies stored with a tmp file extension. When a node is
recovered or rebuilt and re-joined into the cluster the surviving
 nodes
provide the new node a copy of the current database (following the
 process in links below).

Simply stated a copy of the db (and tmp backups) are located locally
on every node of the cluster.

 This may help:

TSM Windows client 5.5.2.0 scheduling problem

2009-06-23 Thread Rainer Holzinger
Hi,

I have recently installed two new TSM servers, version 5.5.2.0 on RHEL 5
on a clustered base.

Now I have experienced a scheduling problem with two TSM Windows
(Win2003/SP2) clients version 5.5.2.0 (32bit).

In both TSM for Windows clients the CAD service is installed and
customized to manage 'webclient' and 'scheduler'.

There are backup schedules defined on the TSM server to backup the
clients every day on an incremental base.

The automatic scheduling has been working with the first backup and
every scheduled backup after that initial one has been a 'missed'
backup, even if the TSM CAD service is started on the TSM for Windows
client.

Some trouble shooting brought up, that a new schedule is processed only
if the TSM CAD service is being restarted. Then one backup is being
processed and the next scheduled one doesn't start again before the TSM
CAD service is being restarted again.

Any idea what could cause this strange behaviour? There are about 70
other TSM for Windows clients, all on version 5.5.2.0, which are doing
well. On the two failing TSM clients there is MS ISA installed. Could
this cause the problem and if so WHY?

Thank you and best regards,

Rainer

TSM-OR 5.5.1.0 - 'Error -- Server Information'

Hi all,

TSM-OR 5.5.1.0 on Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition SP1

TSM server 5.5.2.0 on RedHat Enterprise Linux version 5.2

I have installed two new TSM servers, version 5.5.2.0 on RedHat
Enterprise Linux version 5.2 and implemented both into TSM-OR version
5.5.1.0 on a Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition SP1.

TSM-OR standard daily reports for one of the new servers is fine.

For the second one there is a TSM-OR daily report being returned with
error message 'Error - Server Information'.

I have checked the implementation more than once to find any differences
between both new TSM servers. Unfortunately I haven't found any
differences.

Did somebody of you run into the same problem and if so, how did you
solve it?

Thank you for any feedback.

Just use a small script that checks wether the database is in primary
mode on the node and launch just then the online backup towards TSM.

Then the script can be scheduled on both the primary and standby
database server and you've got yourself always a backup independent
whether a failover was initiated or not.

 Hi Rainer,

We use HADR in our SAP environment. I tread both nodes as separate TSM
clients. Both nodes have its own node names. You can only backup the
primary node of course. When we do failover we point all our SAP
 clients
to the secondary system. I then run a scheduled backup on the
 secondary
 node.

 Hope this helps.

 Hello Jacques,

I was more asking about the ongoing backup procedures if your primary
HADR nodes goes down for some reason and the DB2 database(s) is/are
continued on your standby HADR node. How do you 'failover/failback'
 your
DB2 backup clients in these situations?
DB2 HADR looks like some Software cluster and backup procedures are
therefore a bit more 'tricky' to implement as this is in HACMP or MSCS
 clusters.
 Did you manage this somehow?

 Best regards,
 Rainer

files bound to management classes

2008-11-15 Thread Rainer Holzinger
Hi all,

I would like to do some cleanup tasks on our 6 TSM servers.

One step would be to remove 'old/unused' management classes and
'old/unused' storage pools.

Who can I easily find out is there are still backup/archive files bound
to particular management classes.

Our TSM serve databases are between 35 GB and 85 GB and select
statements are running very, very long or are timing out.

Is somebody outside having a working select statement for me?

Thank you and best regards,

Re: Shrinking scratch pools - tips?

2007-03-28 Thread Rainer Holzinger
Hi Milton,

one reason, 'old' TDPO/RMAN backups will not be expired anymore could be
that your Oracle DBA's are using a different RMAN recovery catalog now.
So every TDPO/RMAN backup which would be part of the 'old' RMAN recovery
catalog wouldn't be expired anymore.
Another reason could be that your Oracle databases are having a
different DBID now for some reason. This is most likely if an Oracle
database has been 'cloned' from another one.
I have noticed both situations a couple of times in our installation.

best regards,
Rainer

I frequently find the culprit to be Oracle backups made via TDP/RMAN
(but it could be any backup made via TDP). Something happens and they
stop deleting old backups. I look at likely candidates using:

 set sqldisplaymode wide
 select NODE_NAME,cast(BACKUP_DATE as date) as
 BACKUP_DATE,STATE,cast(DEACTIVATE_DATE as date) \
 as DEACTIVATE_DATE,HL_NAME,LL_NAME from BACKUPS where
NODE_NAME='Client's Node Name' order by BACKUP_DATE

If it shows old backups then I have the DBAs correct the problem and
 use
tdposync to remove the old backups.

Hello all,

ISC is at level 6.0.1 and AC is 5.3.3.0 on Windows.

Whenever there's a need to modify the volume history (STGNEW, STGDEL,

message.

ANR4502W - No files have been defined for automatically
storing sequential volume history information.

There is a volume history defined within the dsmserv.opt file with
option VOLUMEHISTORY. I can query the volume history from the
Administration Center. Also backing up the volume history with and admin

Is anyone has noticed the same problem?

The TSM Operational Reporter is not a separate product.
To download it, go to the usual FTP site, look for maintenance for the
 WINDOWS TSM server:

 ftp://service.boulder.ibm.com/storage/tivoli-storage-
 management/maintena
 nce/server/v5r3/WIN/LATEST/

 Download TSMCON5330_WIN.exe.
Click to install on your Windows box. That's all you need for TSM OR.

(This pacakge is the standalone version of the Windows TSM server
console, which doesn't exist in the AIX TSM world. It contains TSM
 OR.)

If you need instructions on configuration, look in the admin guide,
search the .pdf for the keyword Operational.
Or go here for 2 short .ppt presentations, start with the oldest one:

 http://www.jasi.com/TSMUG/index.php?page=present

I have not used System Storage Archive Manager, but I did not think
 that
was a separate product, either. I think it is just a copy of TSM for
AIX server with a different license enabled. Can anybody clarify
 that?

 Hi *SM-ers!
We have got one TDP for SQL (5.2.1) client which refuses to cooperate.
It's configured like all other TDP clients with a standard dsm.opt
 file
which contains the correct TCPServeraddress. However, as soon as we
start the TDP GUI, it returns:

ANS1033E (RC-53) An invalid TCP/IP address was specified.

 In the directory C:\Program Files\tivoli\TSM\TDPSql a dsierror.log is
 created with the following lines:

 06/26/2006 08:59:43 GetHostnameOrNumber(): gethostbyname(): errno =
 11004.
06/26/2006 08:59:43 TcpOpen: Could not resolve host name.
 06/26/2006 08:59:43 ANS4039E Could not establish a session with a TSM
server or client agent. The TSM return code is -53.
 06/26/2006 08:59:43 ANS1033E An invalid TCP/IP address was specified.

The TSM server listed in the dsm.opt file is pingable from this
 client,
so it's not a DNS related issue.
I'm lost here, how can I see which host name TDP tries to resolve? Is
there any tracing I can turn on to reveal this?
Thank you very much for any reply in advance!!!
 Kindest regards,

situations.

Has someone of you implemented TSM-OR, ISC and AC on an environment like
this?

2006-01-10 Thread Rainer Holzinger
Hello David,

I've solved a similar case by implementing the TSM Journal Services,
Elapsed backup time before was about 12:30 hours (45 seconds data
transfer time)) and most of the time abends because of running out of
memory.
Now with the Journal Services, the elapsed processing time is only a
couple of minutes an no 'running out of memory' problems anymore. IT's
working excellent now.

Cheers, Rainer

TDPO and Oracle Real Application Cluster

2006-01-06 Thread Rainer Holzinger
Hello all,

I'm looking for a solution to 'fully' automate Oracle backups with TDP
for Oracle in an Oracle Real Application Cluster.

The operating system (Suse Linux) is not clustered.

TDPO has been installed on both cluster nodes. Currently all Oracle
(incr0, 1,2 and archive logs) backups are being scheduled to one on the
two nodes. Now I'm looking for a solution how to handle Oracle failover
situations from the point of backup view. This means as well the loss of
a complete cluster node as one of the Oracle systems on the 'primary'
backup cluster node. At least backing up the Oracle archive logs has to
go on oh the other cluster node then.

Has somebody of YOU hints and tips or maybe a solution how to handle
failover situations here?.

Any suggestion is very welcome.

Thank you,

Rainer

 Rainer

We have done journal-based backups on MSCS. There is no need for
 multiple
journal services - one per cluster node is sufficient. The idea is to
 have
each one configured to journal any file system on which you desire
 JBB, but
suppress the errors if the resource is not actually on line on that
 node.

The sample tsmjbbd.ini describes how the parameters DeferFSMonStart,
DeferRetryInterval and LogFsErrors can be configured to support this.

This extract from our tsmjbbd.ini shows support for journaling on two
 shared files systems - G: and H:.

 [JournaledFileSystemSettings]
 JournaledFileSystems=G: H:
 ...

 [JournaledFileSystemSettings.G:\]
 DeferFsMonStart=1
 DeferRetryInterval=30
 logFsErrors=0

 [JournaledFileSystemSettings.H:\]
 DeferFsMonStart=1
 DeferRetryInterval=30
 logFsErrors=0

My only concern about this is what happens if a failover occurs and a
 file
is modified within the DeferRetryInterval. I guess if it is not
subsequently modified, it never gets backed up?

Re: TSM client 5.3.2.0 for Windows 2003 32-bit

2005-12-12 Thread Rainer Holzinger
Hi,

I've tried to install the TSM client services (client scheduler, client
acceptor and remote client agent) with the dsmcutil utility, like I'm
doing all the time. The client acceptor service could not start because
of problems to open particular registry keys. I've used the GUI setup
wizard then and there was no problem anymore.
Another problem was message 'ANS1327W The snapshot operation for C:
failed with error code: 114'. The backup continues without snapshot
support but with rc=12. Other messages like
'GatherWriterStatus(...pHrResultFailure)() failed with
hr=VSS_E_WRITEERROR_NONRETRYABLE' are also in the dsmerror.log. This is
because of a timing problem with OFS and 'domain all-local' and it is
fixed in TSM client version 5.3.2.2, available after December 23rd 2005.

TSM client 5.3.2.0 for Windows

2005-12-12 Thread Rainer Holzinger
Hello all,

I'm implementing a new Microsoft Cluster Server (Windows 2003 server)
into our TSM environment.

We are using a separate network for backup purposes with a separate
backup NIC as well.

The local TSM clients on each cluster node as well as the 'shared' TSM
client's are having different tcp ip addresses like it's recommended in
the documentation (client manual and redbook).

After the password synchronization for all the TSM clients I've check
their tcp ip addresses within the TSM servers node entires. From there I
have seen that all the TSM clients are using the same ip address (the
one from the local TSM client) to connect to the TSM server.

Why don't the 'shared' TSM clients use the ip address that has been
defined by parameter 'tcpclientaddress' within their dsm.opt files? Am I
doing something wrong or misunderstand?

Thank you and best regards,

Rainer

dsmerror.log in TSM client version 5.3

2005-10-26 Thread Rainer Holzinger
Hello all,

after upgrading some TSM clients (on AIX and Solaris) to version 5.3.2.0
I have noticed that there's always a 'new' dsmerror.log file existing,
even if there hasn't been an error.

If dsmerror.log wasn't existing then the file size is 0 (zero) bytes and
it seems dsmerror.log was created like the Unix 'touch' command is
doing. On the other hand, if dsmerror.log was existing and had entries
in, the timestamp has been updated with the one of the last scheduled
backup even if the wasn't an error in that backup operation.

Has this something to do with IBM's changes for the DSM_LOG environment
variable and the check that dsmerror.log is writable?

Thanks, Rainer

 Hi, Rainer -

 Seems to be the case...
The client download Readme file goes into more detail than the client
 manual:

Initialization of the client and its various components has been
significantly revised. In particular, if you are using scripts to
accomplish certain tasks, you will notice:
The client application (dsmc, dsmadmc) will not run without a
writable error log. If a log is not present, one will be opened under
the uid of the user that invokes the application and with that user's
default permissions. This may mean that another user may not have
write permission and the client will not run.
There must always be an error log. If it is created new for each run
and there are no errors, it will be empty at process termination.
If the error log exists and is writable by the invoking user, it will
be preserved along with all permissions and ACLs if they exist. It is
strongly recommended that you create any required logs in a directory
and with proper permissions to allow all users write access.

Re: TSM license files

2005-10-24 Thread Rainer Holzinger
James,

I don't know if there's something inside of the TSM server# database
about it. But there's an external file called 'nodelock' in the TSM
server's default installation directory (in AIX --
/usr/tivoli/tsm/server/bin) where all your 'register license' commands
are being written to.

 Subject: [ADSM-L] TSM license files

Does anyone know where TSM stores the license files that are currently
registered on a TSM server? Are the licenses stored in an internal
table within the database, or are they stored in an external file.

The reason I ask, is that I moved a TSM server from older hardware to
newer hardware, and after the move, I had to go register the licenses.
This wasn't a big deal, because I just re-registered the licenses. But
 I
was just curios why after I loaded the TSM database from the old
 server
onto the new server, the licenses didn't automatically transfer.

 Thanks in advance.

Re: expiration Oracle backups

2005-10-14 Thread Rainer Holzinger
Hello,

I'm running 18 Oracle systems on HP-UX which are backed up by TDP for
Oracle.
The TDP for Oracle version is 5.2.1.0, the TSM servers 5.2.4.1 on AIX
5.2 ML05. Oracle serves are at level 9i and 10g.
Our Oracle administrators have written a RMAN script that deletes
obsolete backups. I was monitoring the first deletes from RMAN and seen
that the delete from RMAN inactivates the TDPO objects on the TSM
server. The next expire inventory process will delete the TDPO objects
from the TSM database and managed storage. I think this is the reason
for BACKDEL=yes, Versions Data Deleted = 0 and Retain Only Version = 0.

In general this works fine in our installation. But in the meantime
there is one Oracle system where we have found 'old' TDPO objects in TSM
storage but no entries in the RMAN recovery catalog. Even a 'TDPOSYNC
SYNCDB' did not remove or inactivate the TDPO objects which should be
there anymore. I will test some other things and come back to the list
if there's a solution.

best regards,
Rainer

While the manual says to create nodes for RMAN with Delete Backup
permission set to yes, the manual also says to use a managementclass

 say
is true (and I have no reason to doubt that :) ), then these settings

 Hi all,

we are now in progress of testing LANFREE backups on TDP R3 on Oracle
 (AIX)
and I found an issue with using in the fly copypool. I would like to
storage agent write simultaneous copy of data into copypool (like
 server
does). But when I defined copypool within primary tapepool, where
 LANFREE
client is pointed to, lanfree backup fall into normal LAN backup (of
 course
with simultaneous write to that copypool). So question: is LANFREE
 agent
able to use this feature or not?

 Thanks for any advice.

you will find that a given level lasts maybe three years.
End of Support will be posted on the eos page after it is decided
 and announced.

I will have to enable the ITSM account within the test server first, from
where we a pretty good measurement about overhead. Well that's the way it
is.
From where can I download your program(s) to test it after a while?
Do you invoke them from within crontab?

Thank you,

 Hi, Rainer -

I envision Beaker, at Muppet Labs... :-)
About all it amounts to is writing an ASCII string to a file, from data
which has been compiled for other purposes in the server anyway.
Any overhead would be undetectably small; and in any case, the
 value of
the data far outweighs the tiny cost to write the record.
Running with accounting turned on is common.
Fear can be ameliorated by trying out a previously untried feature.
