3494 Partitioning to share between TSM and VERITAS applications

2009-04-06 Thread Rane, Yashwant
Hi all,

We have a requirement to share our 3494 library between our existing
servers (AIX running TSM application) and new windows server (running
VERITAS application).

We would like to partition our library so that windows server can have
access to only two tape drive out of 8 drives and pre-assigned tape
volumes. VERITAS application on windows server should not have access to
TSM volumes. Similarly TSM server should not have access to VERITAS
Tape Volumes.

Is there anyone using similar setup? Is there anyone sharing 3494
library between TSM and VERITAS applications?

Storage Agent's Session

2006-04-30 Thread Rane, Yashwant
Recently we have Configured Storage Agents for LANfree backups.

Do you normally keep storage agents session running all the time?

or

Is it better to start storage agent just before backup / restore? And
normally keep it off.

TDP For Exchange performance

2005-09-22 Thread Rane, Yashwant
Hi,

TDP Exchange 5.2.2, Windows 2003/Exchange 2003, TSM Server 5.2.2.5, Tape
Drive 3590. LAN 1Gbps.

We do full exchange backup using TDP everyday of size 300GB over LAN to
tape drive 3590 and getting a Throughput rate: 14 Mb/sec.

Is there anyone getting higher Throughput rate than this?

If yes, then with what technology and @ what Throughput rate?

Re: Backup stays in progress and never completes : ANR0480W error

2004-12-04 Thread Rane, Yashwant
I have seen such problems couple of times in our environment. In our
case it was always a mismatch of duplex setting on network switch port
and TSM client m/c port. I forced both i.e. Network Switch port and TSM
Client m/c port to Full Duplex (of course speed setting is also same),
this resolved our problem.

This problem is observed if port is set to Auto negotiate.

Greetings admin brothers and sisters,

I've had an issue with one of my clients for a couple of weeks that I'm
unable to correct. This is a Solaris client, version 5.2.2. The server
is AIX, version 5.1.6. The client schedule starts with no problems, and
sometimes a little bit of data is sent to tape, but invariably
communication with the server gets hosed and I start seeing the
following messages in the client's error log:

*

12/03/04 12:33:22 ANS1005E TCP/IP read error on socket = 5, errno =
131, reason : 'Connection reset by peer'.

12/03/04 12:33:22 ANS1809W Session is lost; initializing session
reopen procedure.

12/03/04 12:33:38 ANS1810E TSM session has been reestablished.

*

Here's what I'll see in the server activity log:

*

12/03/04 14:22:36 ANR0480W Session 1073 for node PRDWEB2 (SUN
SOLARIS) terminated - connection with client severed.

*

Oddly enough, I can run the backup from the command doing a dsmc i
and it completes without a problem. I found some good info at adsm.org
on this particular issue, and it looks like some folks were able to
resolve similar problems by reinstalling the client's software ... which
I've tried to no avail. I've talked to IBM, and they were zero help.
I've talked with Sun to verify that the interface on this Solaris box is
set up correctly (which I knew it was already). I've checked the
settings on the switch port this client plugs into. I've even pulled a
new fiber cable from the client to the switch.

And the problem persists!

The problem started for no particular reason a couple of weeks ago.
It's very strange, too, because this Solaris server is clustered, and
it's sister server (which is set up exactly the same way) has no
problems. Everything in the dsm.sys and dsm.opt files of these two
clients is exactly the same.

Has anyone come across this before?

Sincere thanks,

Chris Hund

FW: fiber attached 3590's for mksysb under AIX ?

2003-07-22 Thread Rane, Yashwant
We have fibre attached 3590's attached to RS/6000 Model F80. We can cut mksysb on
these drives but can not boot from this mksysb tape using fibre attached 3590.

we are working with IBM H/W to make it work (as this is supported config.), but still
no success.

Is there anybody tested booting using mksysb tape using fibre attached 3590?

We tested the SCSI process that you described but did not carry it over to
fibre. However, there really isn't all that much difference in the way AIX
recognizes fibre drives verses SCSI drives. You shouldn't have any trouble
converting the SCSI process to fibre.

Kind of off topic but it is protection of TSM servers...

We are still running with all SCSI attached 3590's both B1A's
 and E1A's

nice thing is you can use mtlib to mount a tape, then cut a
 mksysb to that drive tape

Two TSM environments require capacity increases and I'm
wondering if that occurs with upgrades of B1A's to newer E's
or H's, and if I go with fiber attached this time if the
drives will still be valid devices to cut mksysb's to ? ? ?

so are any TSM'ers with aix boxes fiber attached drives
 doing this ? ? ?

(it makes for a real slick automated monthly mksysb process
to better protect your TSM environments)

 just wondering...

Backup from Novell / Restore on Windows

2003-07-01 Thread Rane, Yashwant
Hi,

Is it possible backup files from Novell server using Novell B/A Client and restore it
on Windows server using windows B/A Client?

Is there any work around to achieve this? (other than mapping Novell server disk to
Windows and backup using Windows B/A Client)
