TSM DB Increased - Export Node To Tape (Archive Data)

2006-10-31 Thread Rofie, Abu Bakar
Hi All

I am running out of space for my TSM DB ( 98% ); What I'[m doing now is to
export some archive data to tape and delete it from archivepool/copypool. My
problem is while trying to export 80 version of archive data (which was
taken on monthly basis) I only can supply 'fromdate' option where by it will
export the version of archive from the date mention to the current date ( am
I right ?) Is that any option or solution that can also stated like 'todate'
to prevent the export session from take all the version.

Please help

Thanks
Abu

Archive Mgmt Class

2006-08-24 Thread Rofie, Abu Bakar
Hi all,

I have a problem with the large number of archive files in my environment.
We are trying to export the older archive data to tapes and send to

offsite. Then I would prefer to delete the data from the server.

The scenario:-

If I would like to leave 2 latest copies of the archive on TSM server and
the rest will be

export to tapes, delete the older archive from TSM . The coming archive will

still be archiving to TSM and the oldest 3rd copy will be exporting to

tape and send to offsite.

Is that a solution for this thru mgmt class , etc ?

windows systemobject backup

2006-08-08 Thread Rofie, Abu Bakar
Hi all,

I would like to know is that the system objects backup is good enough to
cover the above files since it is excluded by default :-

Winnt\system32\config\default
Winnt\system32\config\SAM
Winnt\system32\config\SECURITY
Winnt\system32\config\software
Winnt\system32\config\system
Winnt\system32\config\SYSTEM.ALT

Backing up virtual machine by backing up their file system is (not
only in my opinion) generally dangerous - data is not consistent.

We use tivoli client on ESX server (by the way - still 2.5.3p1) AND
tivoli clients on each virtual machine. This guarantee REAL
consistence of data in virtualization machine (ESX) and in virtual
  environment.

Please check the VMWare ESX documentation. There is an approved way to
suspend (not stop) a given VM so that a backup can be made of the file
containing the VM with the TSM client installed on the host OS. The
process can be worked into PRESCHEDCMD and POSTSCHEDCMD so that consistent
 images can be backed up.

Uhm, our esx work in real production environment, so we cant suspend
machine.

And, to be more critical, we haven't dedicated backup window ...

There are also third-party packages that do the same thing, only with more
 bells and whistles.

Re: DB Clean UP

2006-04-18 Thread Rofie, Abu Bakar
Hi all;

I am running the critical system with the database size 93.9% utilized.
Is it any other way we can decrease or do some housekeeping on this without
adding some more space on that

Cheers

Serval years ago a wrote a document on configuring tape drives in TSM
for performance/redundancy. We had some problems today and I had to dig
out the document. I looked through it and made a couple of minor
updates. It still seems pretty relevant. I have not made updates to the
sections on SCSI drives, but they are still included. The document
includes a detailed example for AIX using fibre drives in an IBM 3584.

Please email me directly if you would like the document.
