Re: winNT client failure
Gerald, Just a quick thing as your original question has already been answered. From the look of you dsmsched.log you also have a problem with your network between the client and the TSM server. Check the media speed and the duplex settings on the client, TSM server and the network device connecting the two. Sorry my e-mail wasn't very clear, i was after information about the BMC Monitoring Tool for TSM, to help manage events and alerts and so forth. -Original Message- From: Kyle Payne [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: 12 November 2001 20:11 To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: BMC Agent for TSM What database are you backing up? Currently the TDP agents work with the LANFree option. We tried getting the BMC for SQL agent working over LANFree and found out that the current release of the product is not capable LANFree. We were told conflicting things from BMC on when it would be able to use BMC with LANFree. We ended up using the TDP For SQL and liked both the backup and restore we got. I know that prior to V2.2 BMC was more feature rich but the V2.2 TDP seems to be quite nice. Still, BMC did work fine with the Network connection. I am not a Marketing rep so I don't know for sure but I think BMC is more expensive. ??Backup Strategy for raw volumes??
Hi, I have a customer with a HP-UX TSM server running server code 4.1.3. They have a client with both raw logical volumes and mounted filesystems which is currently backing up fine using incrementals and backup images. What they need to do is on a monthly basis take a snapshot of the entire box which needs to be kept near line for 7 years. Because they have raw volumes they cannot just use backupsets, because as far as I am aware backupsets will not work with raw volumes. What is the best strategy to implement to ensure they have a copy of all the active files on the client, both mounted and raw data which they can keep for 7 years? !!Backupsets and Raw Volumes!!
Hi, question for you about backupsets I am running a backupset every month on a system that backs up both normal filesystems and raw partitions (using the dsmc backup image command). Problem is that when i do: tsm q backupsetcontents nodename backupsetname I can see a list of all my files but no mention of the raw partitions. is this correct... any ideas how I would go about checking that the raw partitions are actually contained in the backupset and how to restore them??? !!!Novell Client Stability!!!!
Hi, I am trying to find a stable TSM client for our Netware server. We have been using TSM for 2 yrs now but we still haven't found a stable combination of client code and the version of Netware. We are using Netware 5 SP6 and we are currently running the latest 4.2 client with no luck. It is backing up to an NT4 server running TSM server 4.1.2.0 Does anyone know what version of the client code and the various NLM's i.e. TSA510, TSANDS, SMDR and CLIB we need to have a stable system? Your help in solving this enigma would be much appreciated. Re: !!!Novell Client Stability!!!!
Hi Jeff, Thanks for your reply. In all honesty we have never found any versions to co-exist that are stable. We very often find that DSMC will abend the server, but we have seen lots of different problems. We are only running this on one Netware box and we do sometimes get a sucessful backup, though it is not as reliable as it should be. The stablest verion of the Netware client i have found for my other customers in ADSM Client 3.1.0.6 backing up to any version TSM server. Though i obiviously can't install this due to support issues. At the beginning we had problems with the backup of the NDS volume. The costumers NDS volume is very big and with the proposed versions of the smdr.nlm, tsa500.nlm and tsands.nlm we had no success (the server has been crashed). After a look into the client readme file in chapter Novell NetWare Specific Known Problems we have decided to use newer modules. Currently we are sucessfull using the tsa5up6 package from the novell web site and the tsm clients are working well. There is only one exception! Do not use compression, because the backup time increases much more than you can expect. !!!Deleting Filespaces!!!
Hi, Does anyone no of a quick way for deleting file spaces. I have just recently upgraded our customer from the Notes connect agent to the new TDP for domino. The old filespaces for the connect agent are now no longer needed. They have about 1000 different filespaces and deleting them one by one will take ages. I can't start them all at once for fear of database deadlocks. Any ideas??
