HI Rainer,

In ISP versions earlier than 8.1.2, the value for the parameter SSLREQUIRED
with the "update noded" command could only get changed with "System Level
Authority", although other changes could be made with "Unrestricted Policy
Priviledge". (This is still documented within the latest documentation)

Since the SSLREQUIRED parameter became the status "depricated" since version
8.1.2, because the SESSIONSECURITY parameter is now used.

To modify the value for the SESSIONSECURITY parameter (analogous to the
previous SSLREQUIRED), the "System Authority" is required.
(This is missing within the latest documentation)

Regards, Uwe

Tsm server 7.1.1.100
RHEL v 6.7 as vm.

I have given up on native AWS VTL configuration.
It will also emulate a stk l700 library, and tsm supports this library.

Am I correct that I now need the acsls software from sun / oricle?
The tsm library definition needs the acsid, but I do not know what that is.

Any help would be appreciated.

Betreff: Bring back TSM Administrator's Guide

A great book is gone. The TSM Administrator's Guide has been obsoleted as of
v7.1.3. Its priceless collection of how-to information has been scattered to
the winds, which basically means it is lost. A pity, because this book had been
a model of complete, well-organized, documentation.

The "Solution Guides" are suitable only for planning a new TSM installation,
and do not address existing TSM sites. Furthermore, they are much too narrow,
and do not cover real-world existing TSM customers.
For instance, we use a blended disk and tape solution (D2D2D2T) to create a
good working compromise between faster restore and storage cost.

Following links to topics in the online Information Center is a haphazard
process at best, which is never repeatable. There is no Index or Table of
Contents for the online doc - so you cannot even see what information is there.
Unless you actually log in, there is no way to even leave a "trail of
breadcrumbs". Browser bookmarks are useless here, due to IBM's habit of
changing URLs frequently. This is an extremely inefficient use of my time in
finding out how to do something in TSM.

Search is not an acceptable replacement for good organization. Search is
necessary, but it cannot stand alone.

Building a "collection" is not an answer to this requirement. It still lacks a
coherent Index or Table of Contents, so once my collection gets sizeable, it is
also unuseable. And with each successive version, I will be required to rebuild
my collection from scratch all over again.

Despite the fact that it had become fairly large, I humbly ask that the
Administrator's Guide be published again, as a single PDF, in v7.1.4.

DSMADMC login slow on TSM 6.3

2011-12-20 Thread Spearman, Wayne
Hello,
We have just installed TSM 6.3 on AIX 7. We are seeing a serious
slowness when we login to TSM with DSMADMC on AIX. The ID prompt comes
up fast enough but it takes anywhere from 6 to 30 seconds for the
password prompt to display. Once in everything is fine. If I use the
Windows DSMADMC to access the AIX TSM 6.3 server I do not see the
problem, the password prompt displays immediately. If I run DSMADMC from
our TSM 5.5 AIX server to access the TSM 6.3 Aix server the password
prompt comes up immediately. Putting passing the ID/PW to DSMADMC does
not help. My peers at other sites are not seeing this issue on their TSM
6.3 servers. This is killing my scripts. I've search ADSM.ORG, but did
not find anything that helped. Does anyone have any suggestions on how
to correct this problem?

Thanks,
Wayne

TSM macro imports

2006-01-02 Thread Spearman, Wayne
I have several new TSM servers I want to copy macros to. I have the
macros in a file. I used the q script command with display format of
Macro to get the commands needed to generate the new script.

The problem comes in with the double quotes, single quotes, parens, etc
embedded in some of the scripts. When I run a script that reads the file
containing the macro commands I get errors such as mis-matched quotes,
extraneous words, etc.

I've tried several things with single quotes around double quotes, but
can't seem to get the right combination. I've searched adsm.org, but
didn't get an answer there. Any help would be appreciated.

Wayne

TSM 5.2.2.4 AIX 5.3

2005-08-09 Thread Spearman, Wayne
We recently upgraded our AIX server from 5.1 to 5.3. We are running tsm
5.2.2.4 64bit in a SAN environment.
When ever we start a DB backup to tape the internal disk, hdisk0 1,
peg out at 90 to 100% and the tsm response time as well as the AIX
response time goes way down.
I can't seem to locate the problem. Nothing is on internal disk except
the tsm install binaries and swap space. DB Storage Pools are in the
SAN.
We don't seem to be swapping excessively from what I can tell but I'm
not an AIX admin either. Our AIX Admins don't seem to know what he
problem is either at the moment.
Backups and other TSM admin functions seem to run with-out issue.

Any help would be appreciated,

ANS1030E error msg question

2003-03-05 Thread Spearman, Wayne
Hi All,
We are getting the ANS1030E System ran out of memory. Process ended error
on one of our clients. The client admin says this isn't a problem on his
server but it's on the TSM server. I don't think so as I don't see any other
related errors on TSM, other clients backed up ok, and the message details
leads me to believe the problem is on the client. However the message is ANS
which if I understand the naming convention indicates a TSM server error.
Does anyone know for sure where the problem lies? Client or TSM server

ANS1030E System ran out of memory. Process ended.

Explanation: TSM cannot allocate storage for the specified operation.

System Action: TSM cannot complete the requested operation.

User Response: Stop TSM, restart TSM, and retry the operation. If
unsuccessful, close all unneeded applications and retry the operation. For
UNIX systems that support resource limits, you can check if the memory
resource limit is too low by entering the following command: ulimit -a Based
on the resulting data, you can ask the UNIX system root user to increase
resource limits so that it will override the current default. The UNIX
system root user has the authority to increase resource limits.

Thanks,
Wayne Spearman

StorageTek L700E library TSM question

2002-11-05 Thread Spearman, Wayne
Hi All,
We have a new STK L700e LTO tape library attached to a new AIX TSM server.
We are not running ACLS on the library. I can't get the library to accept
tapes via the Cartridge Access Point (CAP). We open the door, place a tape
in the slot, close the door, and run the checkin command specifying BULK.
The process ends in a failure. The robot never looks at the CAP.

When we put the tape in the CAP, the robot never inventories the CAP. I find
this odd as our IBM 3494 tape libraries always check the CAP when the door
is opened to see what has happened. STK support says their library doesn't
do this. STK support says TSM has to tell the robot to go check the CAP. I
can't find anything in the TSM books that supports this. The STK web GUI
never shows tapes in the CAP either.

Can anyone help with this dilemma?

Thanks,

Re: StorageTek L700E library TSM question

2002-11-05 Thread Spearman, Wayne
Hi Robin,
Thanks for the reply. We have one CAP. I believe there is something wrong
with the library also, but STK level 3 support and two field techs say no...
At your next opportunity could you verify the CAP is inventoried by the
robot when a tape is inserted and let me know?

Thanks,
Wayne

Sounds like there is something wrong with your library. We have an HP
20/700, which is a rebadged STK L700. I'm pretty sure the robot does look
at the CAP when we put tapes in without being prompted by TSM. We
definitely see tapes in there on the web interface, and checkins work as
expected. Do you have one CAP or two? We have two, and it always goes to
CAP B (the one on the right) first, for everything. We have another 20/700
at our west coast location, and they have had lots of problems with it...
mostly robot/barcode related. Many parts were replaced. They went
back-level in firmware to match us. They finally got it stable, but it
required many months and intensive involvement of HP top gun CE. We
started with TSM 4.1 upgraded to 5.1 on HP-UX server, and the 20/700
worked fone on both (there were new drivers in 5.1 for HP-UX).

Hi Tim,
Thanks for the reply. At your next opportunity could you confirm whether the
robot inventories the CAP when you insert a tape in it and whether this is
done before the checkin command is issued?

You help is greatly appreciated,

We have a L700 with TSM on AIX and we just put the tapes in the CAPs and
then do a checkin from bulk and then reply to the request as per normal.
Incidentally we also had major problems with our L700 like Robin has had
below. I don't know if it would help but you could try redefining the
library device (lb0) and see if recreating that makes any difference.

Re: Benefits of moving to platform other than OS/390

2002-03-20 Thread Spearman, Wayne

TSM on S/390 works great here. We have good automation tools for message
handling and staff to note messages that haven't been automated. We schedule
lots of batch admin clients with the S/390 job scheduler that generate
reports that are distributed thru the report distribution software. No
performance problems here, except we do have to compete for tape drives...

Subject: Re: Benefits of moving to platform other than OS/390

I've not done the move yet but expect to in the next 6 months. The con I
expect has to do with media movement to and from our offsite vault. On OS390
we have a vault management system that tells the ops what tapes to send
offsite, tells the courier which slots to put them in, which slots to pull
and bring back. On AIX, we don't have such a system.

I'm also implementing a small TSM system on a small AIX network with a LTO
tape library. What I notice there so far is that the 3584 takes more
operator intervention then does the 3494. TSM on AIX requires me to reply
to messages to tell the 3584 to look for carts in the i/o station; the 3494
with TSM on OS390 just detects that it has carts in the i/o station and
files them.
