Re: Backup Sets

2001-03-15 Thread Steve Firmes

The problem is the spaces in your filepath. If you enclose the filepath in
quotes, it will work for you.

tsm restore backupset test.2951293 "\\erms_ws06\c$\\PROGRAM FILES\COMMON
FILES\
MICROSOFT SHARED\CLIPART\AUTOSHAP\BD18196_.WMF"

I have tested restoring partial data from a backup set. It appears that I
am limited to how far down the path I can restore from.
For example,

I can successfully restore:
tsm restore backupset bksettape.43448461 \\adsmtst\c$\program files

However, when I try to restore the following:
tsm restore backupset bksettape.43448461 \\adsmtst\c$\program
files\microsoft office\clipart
I receive the following error:
ANS1102E Excessive number of command line arguments passed to the program!

Explanation: This command processing routine received more operands than it
can use. Query can contain only one file specification. Restore and
Retrieve can contain two file specifications. Archive, Delete, and
Selective can contain a maximum of 20 file specifications.
System Action: Processing stopped.
User Response: Reduce the number of arguments and retry the operation. For
UNIX-based systems, ensure that you do not omit the quotes around pattern
matching characters.

My question is: Am I LIMITED to how specific (how far down the path) my
restore is? It appears that I can only specify 2 arguments (c$\folder).

Marc,

Here is an example of how to restore a single file from a backupset.

Hope this helps.

tsm restore backupset test.2951293 \\erms_ws06\c$\jim\setup.exe

Hi Joerg *SMers,

What would be a sample syntax of the partial restore command? I have since
tried restoring a client via command line and can only restore the FULL
Restore.
Here is what I am typing to try to get one file restored from the backup
set:

BACKUPSET=BKSETTAPE.43448461
CLIENT=ADSMTST

TSMrestore backupset bksettape.43448461 sourcefilespec c:
\winnt\cookies\mm2048.dat

I have also tried:

TSMrestore backupset bksettape.43448461 sourcefilespec \\adsmtst\c
$\winnt\cookies\mm2048.dat

do I have to type "sourcefilespec"?

ALSO:
If I wanted to restore the entire cookies directory, what would the syntax
be? (...cookies\or ..cookies\* or ..cookies\...\* )

Any help would be appreciated.

Marc, see my previous append - you CAN restore an individual file using the
CLI (NOT the GUI nor the Web Client). You are correct in that you can
generate a backupset and specify the filespace(s) you want to have included
in the backup set.

Re: AS/400 Backup

2001-03-09 Thread Steve Firmes

BRMS is the client for the AS400. I have used it to back up 3 AS400s. I
wasn't thrilled with it. You still have to use BRMS for your scheduling,
retention periods, object selections, and etc. All you do is point BRMS to
use TSM as the tape device. You still have to deal with the control groups
and policies in BRMS. TSM does nothing but writes the data to tape.

Thanks in advance.

Error Handling in Macros

2001-02-05 Thread Steve Firmes

I have been trying to right a macro that contains several queries.

The problem I am having is when the query doesn't return a result.

example macro:
q vol access=destroyed
q vol access=unavailable

result:
ANR2034E QUERY VOLUME: No match found using this criteria.
ANS8001I Return code 11.
ANS8029E Macro processing terminated.

The macro never gets to the second statement.

Does anyone know how I can get the macro to proceed beyond the first
message?

Thanks for your help.

TSM Server Utilities for NT Hanging

2001-01-26 Thread Steve Firmes

We have an NT SP5 server running TSM 4.1.1.0 and the TSM Server Utility
hangs whenever we start it. This is only happening after we "enable event
tivoli ANR" and "disable event tivoli ANR" for a few thousand
messages. If we "disable event tivoli all" the server utility start right
up. We have several other servers where we have enabled/disabled the same
messages and we are having no issues.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks.

TSM Server sending IBMADSM server events

2000-12-18 Thread Steve Firmes

We have one TSM 3.7.2 server that is sending IBMADSM_SERVER_EVENT messages
to out TEC server. We have several other TSM servers that are correctly
sending TSM_SERVER_ANR messages to our TEC server. The only difference
between these servers is that the first one was upgraded to TSM from ADSM.
How do I get that upgraded box to forget that is was an ADSM box and to
start sending its messages in the TSM_SERVER_ANR format?

Thanks for any help.

Rename NT Server Service

Does anyone know how to change the NT Service for the TSM Server? I used
the 4.1 wizard and the service was created as "Server 1". I would like to
rename/delete and recreate it with a more appropriate name.

TIA
