Re: Using Sun dds4 drive with tsm

2004-01-12 Thread Steve Ochani
Hi,

I have two Sun E250s with dds4 drives. I had tried to use the sun driver with tsm but
tsm did
not like it and was forced to use IBMs driver (the tape would not get mounted).

I have not had the need to do a bare restore but have been able to use the ibm driver
with
ufsdump. I use the dds4 drives and tsm server 5 to backup up the servers and then
backup
the database across the network to two different hard drives.

Thanks Mark and Ted

Increasing the retention setting worked.

How to stop tape from being ejected?

2003-11-04 Thread Steve Ochani
Hello,

I'm running tsm 5.1 on sun solaris 8 with a DDS4 tape drive.

After any tape operation such as labeling a tape or a backup the tape is ejected, and I
have to go back to the server room to put the tape back in.

Anyway to configure the software to stop ejecting the tape?

Thanks

Hmm interesting, it's a seagate travan tapestor. I don't know what else I would try
besides generic.

Thanks, I'll give the module a try

Any way to use ide tape drive on linux?

2003-10-27 Thread Steve Ochani
Hello all,

I'm trying to use a seagate IDE tape drive on linux, linux recognized it as /dev/hdf
and it
works but tsm's driver seems to be only for scsi drives.
If I use /dev/hdf in the device path command TSM cannot access it and gives me an I/O
error.

Thanks for any help

Hi again,

Yes \\.\Tape0 is listed

but when i try to pull up it's properties I get the following error

http://www.steveo.us/tivoli/7.jpg

I don't know if that is because I'm not useing ibm's driver

I don't have any other programs on at the time and the segate backup software service
is off.

That's what I tried to use first. And I got the following error when trying to do the
initial
device config.

Server Version 5, Release 1, Level 5.0

ANS8000I Server command: 'define stgpool GENPOOL1 GENCLASS1

ANS8002I Highest return code was 15.

So how do I use the device?

Re: Help needed using seagate STT20000A

2003-10-15 Thread Steve Ochani
Thanks for the reply,

I tried what you suggested, uninstalled the TSM device driver (via add/remove
programs). Checked ms driver with backup utility from seagate, backup works fine.

Installed TSM device driver from CD.
Went to device manager, update drivers -- windows could not find the ibm device driver,
even had it scan the CD (there is no INF file for the adsmscsi.sys). So I tried
forcefully
installing it by modifying the winnt/inf/tape.inf file and put in an entry for IBM and
for the
admscsi.sys file. It seemed to install fine, rebooted, check the driver property and it
seems fine, lists ibm driver as shown here

http://www.steveo.us/tivoli/4.jpg

But now when I go into TSM console and try to "start" the driver I get the error

"Unable to start the TSM Device Driver.
Reason: The system cannot find the device specified."

as shown here

http://www.steveo.us/tivoli/5.jpg

I then tried in the driver properties, putting the device over to the left column
"Devices
controlled by TSM Device Driver", rebooted , but it put the device back to the column
"Devices controlled by Native Device Drivers"

as shown here

http://www.steveo.us/tivoli/6.jpg

So how do I properly install this driver if there is no inf file for it.

I also see in the docs that in windows 2000 that the tsm device drivers are not needed.

Thanks for any help

Help needed using seagate STT20000A

2003-10-14 Thread Steve Ochani
Hello all,

I have installed TSM server (and client) 5.1 on win2k pro, service pack 4 + all
updates.

This machine has a new Seagate tapestor travan 20 drive (which I've tested with the
seagate
software to do a backup and it works fine)

After install of TSM server completes and I run the management console it's initial
setup wizard
runs and during the devices install part it detects my drive as mt1.0.0.0, I check the
device in
list to use it, click next and I get the error
"Failed to issue a command to the server, click OK to see why."

I click ok and I get the following.

erver Version 5, Release 1, Level 5.0
  Server date/time: 10/13/2003 17:27:29 Last access: 10/13/2003 17:25:23

ANS8000I Server command: 'define library GENLIB1 libtype=manual'
ANR8400I Library GENLIB1 defined.
ANS8000I Server command: 'define drive GENLIB1 GENDRV_0.0.0'
ANR8404I Drive GENDRV_0.0.0 defined in library GENLIB1.
ANS8000I Server command: 'define path STEVEOIMAGE2_SERVER1 GENDRV_0.0.0
srctype=server desttype=drive device=mt1.0.0.0  library=GENLIB1'
ANR8420E DEFINE PATH: An I/O error occurred while accessing drive GENDRV_0.0.0.
ANS8001I Return code 15.
ANS8000I Server command: 'define devc GENCLASS1 devtype=GENERICTAPE
library=GENLIB1'
ANR2203I Device class GENCLASS1 defined.
ANS8000I Server command: 'define stgpool GENPOOL1 GENCLASS1 maxscratch=500
dataformat=NATIVE'
ANR2200I Storage pool GENPOOL1 defined (device class GENCLASS1).

ANS8002I Highest return code was 15.

I have tried canceling the initial setup and tried installing the device later but get
the same
resulting I/O error.

I can make a new node and assign it the policy to use the pool but as soon as i try to
backup I
get an error such as Server media mount not possible.

To see a couple of screenshots of the errors they are at

http://www.steveo.us/tivoli/1.jpg

http://www.steveo.us/tivoli/2.jpg

Thanks for any help.
